Wilfred Gillis
Wilfred J. Gillis, 79, of Sequim died of cancer
Sept. 10, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1922, in Boston, Mass., to Neil and Cassie (Maclean) Gillis. He graduated in 1940 from Boston public schools.
Mr. Gillis served in the Navy as a Marine pharmacy corpsman during World War II. He received the Purple Heart.
He later worked in the Boston Naval Shipyard, transferring to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the early 1950s for a total of 10 years. He later sold mobile homes in Sequim for 30 years.
Mr. Gillis was a Mason and a member of the Elks.
Survivors include his wife, May Gent; one son, Keith Gillis of Sequim; one daughter, Cassie Gillis of Bremerton; three brothers, Malcolm of Massachusetts, Walter of New York and Robert of California; one grandson; and his former wife, Joann Larson Gillis of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell; and a sister, Muriel Haggett.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingsway Foursquare Church on Kitchen Dick Road in Sequim.

Timber Heay
Douglas John "Timber" Heay, 46, of Port Orchard died Sept. 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1954, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Douglas and Dixie (Richard) Heay. He graduated in 1972 from Centralia High School in Centralia and attended Benson Technical School in Portland, Ore.
He married
Suk Cha Chin on June 30, 1979.
Mr. Heay was an operating engineer in the heavy equipment industry and also owned Timber Auto Repair.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Port Orchard; two sons, Timber and Christopher, both of Port Orchard; and one brother, James of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Rill Chapel.
Robert Spreng
Robert Joseph Spreng, 79, of Bremerton died Sept. 12, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1922, in Philadelphia, to Robert and Annie (Bradley) Spreng. He graduated from high school in Philadelphia in 1940.
He married
Nelly Carreno.
Mr. Spreng served in the Navy from 1941 to 1962, achieving the rank of engineman first class. He was honored with the World War II Victory Medal and recognition for submarine combat.
He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 17 years, retiring in 1988 as a reactor plant general foreman.
Mr. Spreng enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean of Bremerton and Lisa Lanctot of Seattle; and one brother, David of New Jersey.
A celebration of his life service will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at 2851 Hayton St., in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory.
Kathleen Schoen
Kathleen Anne Schoen, 51, of Port Orchard died of cancer Sept. 8, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 2, 1950, in Smith Center, Kan., to Orval and J. Bernadene (Byfield) Schoen. She graduated in 1968 from Kennewick Senior High School in Kennewick, from Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco and in 1976 from Central Washington State College in Ellensburg.
She taught special education at Connell Elementary School in Connell and in the South Kitsap School District.
She enjoyed genealogy and writing. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include one brother, Terry Lee of Walla Walla; and one sister, Sandra Kaye of Kennewick.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Mullenix Road in Port Orchard. Interment
will be at Mountain View cemetery in Connell. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Jeanette Hovermale
Jeanette Hovermale, 52, of Port Orchard died Sept. 9, 2001, at her home.
She was born March 9, 1949, in Bremerton to Orville and Selma (Susbak) Leach. She was a 1967 graduate of South Kitsap High School.
She married
Steve Hovermale on Sept. 3, 1977, in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Hovermale was a checker at Safeway in Port Orchard. She was a member of the Eagles in Port Orchard and enjoyed arts and crafts.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ron and Mark, both of Port Orchard; one daughter, Carrie Breeding of Port Orchard; one brother, Orville Leach of Shelton; four sisters, Gloria Bjorkheim and Arlene Nesseth, both of Port Orchard, Judy Marr of Franklin, Wis. and Janice Kittilstved of Spokane; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, also at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Marilynne Fuller
Marilynne O. Fuller, 68, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Sept. 6, 2001 in Port Orchard.
She was born April 10, 1933, in Nome, N.D., to Clarence and Anna (Person) Dusing.
She was a 1951 graduate of South Kitsap High School.
Mrs. Fuller married
Grant Fuller Sept. 29, 1951, in Port Orchard.
She was a budget analyst at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 13 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles Auxiliary for 25 years, and the VFW Auxiliary Port Orchard and West Bremerton for 40 years.
Mrs. Fuller is survived by her husband; a son, John of Burley; two daughters, Laurie MacMillan of Manchester and Andrea Fuller of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until a 10 a.m. funeral service today at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
She will be interred at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Alice Burnell
Alice A. Burnell, 65, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Sept. 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Atlanta, Ga., to Hawthorne and Annie K. Zuber. She was a 1954 graduate of West High School in Bremerton.
She married
Theodore S. Burnell on March 1, 1955, in Bremerton.
She worked for the YWCA Alive Program for 10 years, retiring in 1998.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Silverdale; three sons, Theodore of Portland, and Calvin and Bubba, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Dee Hall of Bremerton and Ann Thurman of Seattle; a brother, Hawthorne Zuber of Seattle; three sisters, Winifred Winston of Lynnwood, Sandra Zuber-Bowers and Harriet Zuber of Silverdale; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Cheryl Lyle
Cheryl Ann Lyle, 44, of Belfair died following complications of a lung transplant Sept. 8, 2001, at Regional Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 14, 1956, in Streator, Ill., to Ralph and Lela (Bruce) Crider. She graduated in 1975 from Ottawa High School in Ottawa, Ill.
She married
Allan Lyle on June 17, 1973, in Ottawa.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Navy Wives Club and Bremerton Soccer Association. She was a Protestant.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Aaron of Herndon, Va., and Travis of Bremerton; a brother, Ronnie Crider of Streator; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Wade.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Irene Goforth
Irene Goforth, 91, of Poulsbo died Sept. 4, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born May 4, 1910, in Walden, Colo., to John and Mary (Nicholson) Knight.
She married
William E. Goforth on March 15, 1930, in Denver. He preceded her in death in 1948.
She was an electrical parts assembler at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, retiring in 1971.
She was a member of Central Valley Garden Club and Henry Bryner VFW.
Survivors include two sons, William Jr. of Washington, D.C., and John of Poulsbo; a daughter, Mary Alice Fossum of Idaho Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Knight; and a sister, Jayne Mapes.
At her request, no service is planned. Cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Maria Zmijewski
Maria Mercedes Zmijewski, 68, of Port Orchard died of an acute bronchial asthma attack Sept. 6, 2001, at home.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1932, in Madrid, Spain, to Antonio and Joaquina (Iglesias) Parda. She was educated in Spain.
She married
Ronald J. Zmijewski, on July 16, 1960, in Madrid.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her children and gardening.
She was a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Ronald of Port Orchard; a daughter, Jacqueline Maria of Port Orchard; three brothers, Antonio Parda, Jose Parda and Miguel Parda, all of Spain; two sisters, M. Delores Dominguez of Wichita Falls, Texas, and M. Angelus Stora of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation was Monday. A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel..

Stanley Eddy
Stanley Earl Eddy, 80, of Bremerton died of a stroke Sept. 1, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Medford, Ore., to Samuel and Lily Eddy. He graduated in 1939 from Silverdale High School and studied upholstery Olympic College.
He married
Lucretia Ammons on April 21, 1942, in Bremerton.
He worked at Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport as an upholsterer, planner and estimator, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed fishing and golf and attended Tracyton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christine Delay of Bremerton; two sons Daniel and Stanley Jr., both of Bremerton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Frank; and two sisters, Jean and Virginia.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tracyton United Methodist Church.
