Richard Spinks
Richard Leonard Spinks, 48, of Bremerton died of cancer Sept. 7, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1952, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to Leonard and Brenda (Scott) Spinks.
He graduated from Carson High School in Carson, Calif., in 1970.
He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., in 1979.
Mr. Spinks married
Sarah Sherman on July 3, 1972, in Carson.
He served in the Navy from 1971 to 1991, and achieved the rank of lieutenant. He received the Navy Achievement Medal and a meritorious unit citation.
He was a registered obstetrics nurse for 22 years.
Mr. Spinks belonged to the Northern Model Railroad Club and enjoyed computers.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community on Naval Submarine Base Bangor.
Mr. Spinks is survived by his wife; his father of Las Vegas; a son, Christopher of Bremerton; a daughter, Robin of Bremerton; a brother, Dennis of Athens, Texas; and a sister, Brenda Porzio of Meadville, Ariz.
A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bangor Chapel. He will be interred at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Marilynne Fuller
Marilynne O. Fuller, 68, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Sept. 6, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born April 10, 1933, in Nome, N.D., to Clarence and Anna (Person) Dusing.
She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1951.
She married
Grant Fuller on Sept. 29, 1951, in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Fuller was a budget analyst at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 13 years, until retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles Auxiliary for 25 years and VFW Auxiliary Port Orchard and West Bremerton for 40 years.
Mrs. Fuller is survived by her husband; a son, John of Burley; two daughters, Laurie MacMillan of Manchester and Andrea Fuller of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at Rill Chapel.
She will be interred at Sunset Lamb cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Mary Smiley
Mary Lorraine Smiley, 83, of Kingston died Sept. 4, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born May 17, 1918, in Wilmington, Calif., to Juan and Juanita (Marticarina) Moreno. She graduated in 1936 from Vellejo High School in Vellejo, Calif.
She married
Robert P. Smiley on June 4, 1939, in Vallejo. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She and her husband operated various businesses in Kingston, starting with Smiley's Auto Service in 1947, followed by an auto body shop, tow truck service, fuel oil delivery, wrecking yard, car sales, equipment rental, Western Auto Store, drive-in restaurant, North Star Cable TV, Kingston mini storage, to today's Smiley's Colonial Motel. She retired from active business involvement in 1987.
She also was a community volunteer and enjoyed baseball.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. of Kingston; and daughter, Diane L. Kina of Poulsbo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter in 1993.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Poulsbo Mortuary The Stone Chapel. A graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kingston cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at Kingston Christian Church.

Jeanette Bender
Jeanette L. Bender, 80, of Bremerton died Aug. 31, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Alexandria, Minn., to Albert and Lydia (Abbot) Beltz.
She married
Harry Bender on Dec. 3, 1946, in Wibaux, Mont. He preceded her in death 1996.
She was a homemaker and longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol A. Bender in February.

Sharon Cook
Sharon Marie Cook, 55, of Shelton died from complications related to diabetes Sept. 6, 2001.
She was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, to Stan and Mary (Lahey) Frye. She graduated in 1963 from South High School in Columbus, Ohio.
She married
Harry Cook on Aug. 30, 1962, in Adrian, Mich.
She was an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter for 25 years. She loved animals.
Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Mary and John Thompson of Portland; two sons, Harrison of the family home and Sonny of Burien; two daughters, Lisa Wilson of Shelton and Mimi of Bremerton; four brothers, Rick Frye of Clinton, S.C., Jay Thompson of Clackamas, Ore., Sean Thompson of Portland and Mark Frye of Columbus; one sister, Marsha Nash of Lake Wales, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at McComb Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12th and Connection Street in Shelton.

Maria Zmijewski
Maria Mercedes Zmijewski, 68, of Port Orchard died of an acute bronchial asthma attack Sept. 6, 2001, at home.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1932, in Madrid, Spain, to Antonio and Joaquina (Iglesias) Parda. She was educated in Spain.
She married
Ronald J. Zmijewski, on July 16, 1960, in Madrid.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed her children and gardening.
She was a Catholic.
She is survived by a son Ronald of Port Orchard; a daughter, Jacqueline Maria of Port Orchard; three brothers, Antonio Parda, Jose Parda and Miguel Parda, all of Spain; two sisters, M. Delores Dominguez of Wichita Falls, Texas, and M. Angelus Stora of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jean Alexander
Phyllis "Jean" Alexander, 50, of Bremerton died of lung cancer Aug. 31, 2001.
She was born Oct. 12, 1950, in Lancaster, Ohio, to Archie and Carrie (Moore) Alexander.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Carrie and Bob Beard of Bremerton; a daughter, Michelle of Indianola; two brothers, David of Lancaster and John of Shelton; five sisters, Coralee Young of Bremerton; Mary Murphy of Lancaster, Sharon Rhodes of Elyria, Ohio, Kelly Towart of Fredrickburg, Va., and Barbara Jo Todd of Lancaster; and one grandson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sheridan Funeral Home in Lancaster. A private service was held Sunday in Lancaster.
Edna Payton
Former Poulsbo resident, Edna F. Payton, 85, of Edmonds died Sept. 3, 2001, at Manor Care in Lynnwood.
She was born Nov. 8, 1915, in Decatur County, Kan., to Walter and Laura (Marshal) Bartholf. She graduated in 1936 from high school in Berryville, Ark., and in 1939 from nursing school in Shreveport, La.
She married
Lewis Payton on Nov. 28, 1980, in New Jersey.
She was a nurse for more than 40 years.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and teaching Sunday school. She attended the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a stepson, Ronald of Arizona; a daughter, Shirley Golden of Keyport; a stepdaughter, Barbara Shen of Edmonds; two brothers, Ray Bartholf of Texas and William Bartholf of California; two sisters, Olive Richardson of Virginia and Roberta Henrickson of Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Beck's Garden Chapel in Edmonds. Interment
will be at Edmonds Memorial cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beck's Funeral Home of Edmonds.

Corby Collins
Corby Ray Collins, infant son of Daniel Collins and Nicole Poirier of Silverdale, died Aug. 31 in Silverdale.
He was born Aug. 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital, Silverdale.
He is survived by his parents; maternal grandparents, Rita Poirier of Silverdale, Tad Poirier of Auburn; paternal grandmother, Marla Collins of Silverdale; three great-grandfathers; four great-grandmothers; and one great-great grandmother. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Don Collins.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Marge Sandstrom
Marjorie R. "Marge" Sandstrom, 84, of Port Orchard died Sept. 5, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Chicago to Julius R. and Rena (Worthington) Rumm. She graduated in 1930 from Hyde Park High School in Chicago.
She married
LeRoy C. Sandstrom on March 31, 1938, in Chicago.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed oil painting and teaching microwave cooking.
She was a member of Harper Evangelical Free Church in Harper.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Stephen of Puyallup, Donald and Gregory, both of Port Orchard; a daughter, Marcia McRae of Vancouver, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Rumm in 1968.
A memorial service was held Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Iola Streenan
Iola D. Streenan, 89, of Bremerton died Sept. 5, 2001, at Ashley Gardens at Dyes Inlet.
She was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Blaine to Barney and Fredrika (Johnson) Davidson. She graduated from Blaine High School.
She married
Jack R. Streenan in March 1941 in Bellingham. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She enjoyed golfing and spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Capps and Jo Ann Stewart, both of Bremerton; a sister, Beulah Bay of Port Orchard; and four grandsons. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Ouida Smith; and a brother, Marion Davidson.
At her request, no service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
