Joyce Sperling
Joyce L. Sperling, 70, of Bremerton died Sept. 3, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 18, 1931, in Roseburg, Ore., to Raymond and Mary (Hodges) Cronk. She graduated in 1949 from Boise High School in Boise, Idaho.
She married
Richard L. Sperling on April 18, 1954, in Boise.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Boise; four sons, Steve of Rockford, Ill., Jim of Silverdale, Mike and Dave, both of Tacoma; a daughter, Susan Beck of Silverdale; a brother, Kent Cronk of Boise; a sister, Lorraine Stueckle of Boise; and 18 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
David Jensen
David C. Jensen, 86, of Poulsbo died Sept. 2, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Glendale, Calif., to James C. and Jennie (Fenton) Jensen. He graduated in 1933 from Hoover High School in Glendale.
He served in the Merchant Marines as a purser from 1941 to 1944 and was awarded the Certificate of Valor and numerous battle citations.
He later worked for Southern California Gas Co. for 37 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.
Mr. Jensen was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife, Jean E. (Koranda) Jensen; a son, David J. Jensen of Port Angeles; a daughter, Christa Jean Weller of Southern California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
At the request of the family, no service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel with cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory.
Stanley Eddy
Stanley Earl Eddy, 80, of Bremerton died of a stroke Sept. 1, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Medford, Ore., to Samuel and Lily Eddy. He graduated in 1939 from Silverdale High School and studied upholstery at Olympic College.
He married
Lucretia Ammons
on April 21, 1942, in Bremerton.
He worked at Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Center at Keyport as an upholsterer, planner and estimator, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed fishing and golf and attended Tracyton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christine Delay of Bremerton; two brothers, Daniel and Stanley Jr., both of Bremerton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Frank; and two sisters, Jean and Virginia.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 15 at Tracyton United Methodist Church.

Bertha Rogers
Bertha Marie Rogers, 89, died Sept. 4, 2001, at her Seabeck home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Spokane to Frank and Rose (Trankle) Stark. She graduated from Hay High School in Washington.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Naval Hospital in Bremerton for 46 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Charleston Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew J. Rogers; three stepdaughters, Carol Lewis of Bremerton, Barbara Smith of Poulsbo and JoAnn Howard of Seabeck; two stepsons, Chuck of Belfair and Albert of Pensacola, Fla.; 10 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Hay cemetery in Hay, Wash.

Sherl Taylor
Sherl Irene Taylor, 65, of Port Orchard died of cancer, Sept. 2, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born March 16, 1936, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Elmer and Irene Amling. She was a 1953 graduate of Orange High School in Orange, Calif.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She was a Christian.
Survivors include her lifelong friend, Daryl O. Taylor of Port Orchard; a son, Rick McCormick of Hot Springs, Ark.; stepson, Darin Taylor of Lakewood; three daughters, Debbie Kabel of San Jose, Lisa Crouch of Spencer, Iowa, and Michelle Burnett of Minnetonka, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Bryan of Port Orchard; two brothers, Paul Amling of Grants Pass, Ore., and Kenneth Amling of Fort Collins, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet McCormick.
A private service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Robert Bettes
Robert Charles Bettes, 66, of Bremerton, died Sept. 4, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Shawnee, Okla.
He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1973, achieving the rank of chief petty officer.
He married
Tazuko Nishiyama on May 13, 1974, in Tokyo.
He was a data processing operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also wrote a semi-monthly column in The Sun pertinent to the interests of senior citizens.
He enjoyed creative writing and fishing. He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Home. A celebration of his life service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Gayle Taylor
Gayle Virginia Taylor, 81, of Poulsbo died of Alzheimer's disease Aug. 28, 2001, at Harbor House at Liberty Shores.
She was born July 19, 1920, in Seattle to Percy C. and Elva (Perry) Smith. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Washington.
She married
Stanley A. Taylor on Sept. 8, 1942, in Seattle.
She enjoyed hiking, bird-watching and her work with the League of Women Voters.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Liz of Bainbridge Island; two sons, Scott of Bainbridge Island and Bill of West Seattle; a sister, Helen Hansen of Ephrata; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held on Mount Rainier.

Paul Noble
Paul Ira Noble, 94, of Bainbridge Island died Aug. 29, 2001, at Island Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born Aug. 24, 1907, to Charles and Edna Noble in Glidden, Iowa.
Mr. Noble worked in the family newspaper business, then moved to Spokane and later Seattle, working for the Spokesman Review, until his retirement.
He was an avid gardener specializing in dahlias and was active in the Bainbridge Island Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Noble; and a daughter, Jane of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Church.

Rose Cuendet
Rose A. Cuendet, 82, of Bremerton died Sept. 2, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 30, 1919, in Comertown, Mont.
She was a bank secretary.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Chase; and a grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A private Mass will be celebrated. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Nancy Olson
Nancy Dorothy Olson, 78, of Poulsbo died Aug. 29, 2001 at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Tring, England, to William and Sarah (Crockett) Barter.
Mrs. Olson married
Arthur William Olson, Jr. Feb. 17, 1945, in New Mill, England. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and playing bingo.
Mrs. Olson is survived by four daughters, Joan Rogers and Geri Murphy, both of Bremerton, Gail Leurquin of Seabeck and Judy Hunter of Silverdale; a brother-in-law Allan "Bud" Olson of Bainbridge Island; a sister Flo Hearn of New Mill, England; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Alfred Barter, both of England.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn.

Kenny Peterson
Kenneth "Kenny" C. Peterson, 73, of Bainbridge Island died Aug. 29, 2001 at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1927, on Bainbridge Island to Henry and Sara (Ubel) Peterson.
Mr. Peterson graduated in 1946 from Bainbridge High. He later graduated from Edison Technical School in Seattle.
He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952, achieving the rank of private first class.
He married
Helene Alderson Nov. 24, 1956, on Bainbridge Island.
Mr. Peterson was a machinist with American Can Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a sportsman and enjoyed Reno vacations.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife; two sons, Kevin of Makawao, Maui, Hawaii, and Kelly of Granite Falls; a daughter, Regan Antig of Poulsbo; a brother, William of Sumner; and four grandchildren.
Interment will be at Port Blakely cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
