Grace McLean
Grace B. Mclean, 98 of Poulsbo died August 30, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born March 5, 1903, in Inglewood, Calif., to Emmert and Ada (Brumbaugh) Stayer.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Patmon of Colton, Ore., William Patmon of Hoxie, Kan., and David Patmon of Poulsbo; three daughters, Grace
Oren of Hoxie, Patricia Christenson of Woodland and Vivian Edwards of Quartzsite, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.G. "Jack" McLean.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo.
Vincent Lovejoy
Vincent Danny Lovejoy, newborn son of Vincent Lovejoy and Sabrina Washington, died Aug. 23, 2001, in Silverdale.
He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Essence and Deja Washington of Bremerton and Velory Lovejoy of Tacoma; maternal grandparents, Jay and Lynette Everett of Bremerton; and paternal grandparents, Richard and Sharon Lovejoy of Port Orchard.
Ruth Cederwall
Ruth Renn Cederwall, 96, died Aug. 28, 2001, at her Bainbridge Island home.
She was born Oct. 25, 1904, in Seattle to Frank and Lois Renn. She graduated from Chelan High School in 1923 and attended the University of Washington.
She married
John Cederwall on Dec. 14, 1940, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1965.
For several years after her husband's death she operated the exporting business he founded in Winslow.
She enjoyed reading and gardening and was a member of the altar guild and memorials committee at
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a son, Eric of Bainbridge Island. She also was preceded in death by a son, John Michael in 1969; and a sister, Vivian Gaukroger in 1997.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Alta Helland-Robinson
Alta Christina Helland-Robinson, 84, died Aug. 29, 2001, at her Bremerton residence.
She was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Belmond, Iowa, to John and Jennie (Koppernagel) Helland.
She married
Claude Benson Robinson on Feb. 2, 1946, in Bremerton. He died in 1990.
She was a homemaker and member of Rebecca Lodge and The Children's Home Society.
She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Robinson of Olympia; five daughters, Evelyn Campeau and Carol McCorkle of Bremerton, Velda Miller and Linda Smith of University Place, and Jennie Wilson of Shoreline; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by twin sisters, Marcella and Marguerite Helland; and her brother, Orville Helland.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Mountain View cemetery in Silverdale.

Ralph Briggs
Ralph Valentine Briggs, 80, of Port Orchard died Aug. 23, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in La Junta, Colo., to Clarence and Bessie (Stone) Briggs. He graduated from La Junta High School.
He married
Dorothy Kline on Jan. 8, 1940, in La Junta. She preceded him in death in 1981.
Mr. Briggs served in the Navy as a machinist mate during World War II.
He was a machinist for Dodge in Arizona and later was a musician, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his great-grandson, Kade.
He is survived by a son, Fred of Apple Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Carolyn Alexander of Port Orchard; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his son, Eugene; three brothers and one sister.
Private services are planned with inurnment at American Fork City cemetery in Utah.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
James Samuels
James A. Samuels III, 65, of Poulsbo died Aug. 18, 2001, of cancer in Vancouver, Wash.
He was born June 17, 1936, in Richmond, Va., to James and Patricia (Ryan) Samuels II. He graduated from high school in 1958 in Corvallis, Ore.
Mr. Samuels served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1957, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a Job Corps counselor in Washington and Oregon. He also was a paralegal for some members of the Suquamish Tribe and the S'Klallam Tribe in Port Gamble, representing them in the Northwest intertribal court system.
Mr. Samuels enjoyed camping and nature.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Knutson of Phoenix and Terry of Odem, Texas; one daughter, Faith Wiemann of Gresham, Ore.; three sisters, Patricia Lemkuil of Vancouver, Wash., and Midge Ormsby and Terry Ellen Samuels, both of Kettle Falls; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.
Mr. Samuels' ashes will be scattered at sea by the Navy. Memorial donations may be made to a hospice of the donor's choice.
Harold Mong
Harold Mong, 85, of Poulsbo died Aug. 27, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 23, 1915, at the Bow Edison Homestead in Washington to Nels and Emma (Knudsen) Mong.
He married
Mary Jane Leatherwood on June 1, 1936, in Burlington.
He spent 55 years in the dairy farming business, retiring in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas of Poulsbo; a daughter, Mary Beth Olsen of Bremerton; two sisters, Helen Rockom of Seattle and Gerda Harrison of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norris.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church cemetery, 18920 Fourth Ave. NE, in Poulsbo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Jack Hamaker
Jack Thornton Hamaker, 86, of Bremerton died of cancer Aug. 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Detroit to Ray and Corinne (Hind) Hamaker. He graduated in 1933 from Arsenal Technical School in Indianapolis.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was involved in theater management and the entertainment industry for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Tracyton United Methodist Church and enjoyed tennis and The Variety Club.
Survivors include his wife, June (Strehlau) Hamaker of Bremerton; a son, Steven Ray Hamaker of Vancouver, Wash.; three daughters, Carol Lynn Stephens of Boring, Ore., Janice Marie Rose of Pasco and Dianne Mae Gregg of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis William Duerden.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tracyton United Methodist Church. Arrangement are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Phyllis Christenson
Former Silverdale resident Phyllis J. Christenson, 66, of Leona Valley, Calif., died of breast cancer Aug. 20, 2001, at home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Glenville, Minn., to Chris and Lillian (Larson) Hagen. She graduated in 1953 from Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, Minn.
She was a nanny for 20 years.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She was a member of World Wide Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce of Whittier, Calif., and Timothy of Claremont, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Thacker
of Silverdale and Linda Orro of Leona Valley; a sister, Joretta Jensen of Glenville; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Arlis Davis and Sharon Carpenter.
A memorial service will be Sept. 8 at Bonner Up Funeral Home in Glenville.

William Marshall
William T. Marshall, 88, died of cancer Aug. 25, 2001, at his Tracyton residence.
He was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Seattle to Harry and Matilda (Keppers) Marshall. He graduated in 1931 from St. Martin's College in Olympia.
He married
Vessa McVay in July 1944 at our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
He was a machinist in Shop 6 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in 1973.
He enjoyed sports. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he enjoyed being an usher.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis of Bremerton; two daughters, Kandy of Seattle and Sally Myers of Tacoma; and seven grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 12:15 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Jack Mansfield
Jack Emerson Mansfield, 85, of Port Orchard died Aug. 23, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Walla Walla to Howard and Nellie (Henderson) Mansfield. He graduated
in 1933 from McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater, Ore., and in 1938 from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
He married
Marie Clark on Aug. 31, 1940, in Honolulu. She preceded him in death in 1993.
He served in the Navy for 30 years, achieving the rank of captain. He earned the Silver Star and Bronze Star. He served aboard USS Radford, USS Atka, USS Platt and USS Topeka.
He later was director of continuing engineering education at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., for 12 years.
He enjoyed fly fishing and his time as a Boy Scout Leader.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, John of Norwood, Colo.; a daughter, Judy Mansfield Muller of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Oliver, Pat, Herschell and Dick; and one sister, Lavern Hagan.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor Chapel. Private inurnment will be in Milton-Freewater Ore.
