Norman Sandberg
Norman Carl Sandberg, 65, of Indianola died of brain cancer Aug. 22, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Pasco to Carl and Elsie (Von Notric) Sandberg. He graduated in 1954 from Colfax High School in Colfax and attended Washington State University. He graduated in 1963 from Whitworth College in Spokane.
He served in the Air Force as a radarman from 1955 to 1959.
He married
Judy Norton on Aug. 14, 1984, in Issaquah.
He was a marketing and service director for Pacific Northwest Bell and AT&T for 26 years, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed golf and was the executive director for Stand Up for Kids. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jonathan of Denver and Ken Crelling of Tacoma; four daughters, Kelly of Ballard, Kerry Taylor, of Lakeland, Fla., Terry George of Meridian, Idaho, and Shellee Skinner of Poulsbo; three brothers, Gordon of Walla Walla, Dave of Yakima and Dan of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and 16 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, 18920 Fourth Ave. NE, in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary The Stone Chapel.

Angelina M. Stayner
Angelina Stayner, 90, of Bainbridge Island died Aug. 25, 2001, at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Oakland, Calif.; to James and Grace (Baracco) Rizzo.
She married
Steven Stayner in 1945. He died in 1983.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a sister, Julia Rohrscheib of Silverdale. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island. A funeral and graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Port Blakely cemetery on Bainbridge Island.

William Marshall
William T. Marshall, 88, died of cancer Aug. 25, 2001, at his Tracyton residence.
He was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Seattle to Harry and Matilda (Keppers) Marshall. He graduated in 1931 from St. Martin's College in Olympia.
He married
Vessa McVay in July 1944 at our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
He was a machinist in Shop 6 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in 1973.
He enjoyed sports. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he enjoyed being an usher.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis of Bremerton; two daughters, Kandy of Seattle and Tricia of Bremerton; and seven grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mary DeJarnett
Mary Alpha DeJarnett, 92, of Bainbridge Island died Aug. 25, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Dec. 10, 1908, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada, to Anselme and Leonida (Morency) Landry. She was a 1928 graduate of Stanwood High School.
She was a housewife and enjoyed traveling and knitting. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include two brothers, Raymond Landry of Shoreline and George Landry of Kirkland; three sisters, Rita Rockstad of Bainbridge Island, Hermene Conner of Seattle and Imelda Oliver of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindley DeJarnett in 1962; and seven siblings, Ernest Landry, Lucien Landry, Paul Landry, Victor Landry, Eva Jensen, Meriza Bell and Ida Landry.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island. A funeral Mass will be follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Riverton Crest cemetery in Seattle. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.

Elizabeth Buell
Elizabeth Agnes Buell, 80, of Bremerton died Aug. 27, 2001, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Seattle to Charles and Blanch (Wilson) Butt. She graduated in 1939 from Bremerton High School.
She married
Charles A. Buell on Nov. 13, 1941. He died in 1986.
She was a landlord and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary with Lincoln Avenue Bible Church and Alanon.
She attended Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.
She is survived by two sons, Charles W. of Bremerton and Robert E. of Marysville; a daughter, Peggy Thomas of Manhatten Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her stepfather, Peg Mortensen.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, also at Miller-Woodlawn. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mary Brunsberg
Mary E. Brunsberg, 82, of Bremerton died Aug. 27, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Harrington to George and Thelma (Carter) Walters. She graduated in 1938 from Leavenworth High School and in 1940 from Wenatchee Business College.
She married
Robert Brunsberg in Washington in November 1952. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a secretary for 30 years, and retired in 1988 from Olympic Peninsula Retail Clerks Federal Credit Union, now known as Kitsap County Public Employees Credit Union.
She was a member of the Lady Eagles Aerie 192, Peninsula Fruit Club and Charleston Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen McFarlen of Kingston; two sisters, Doris Fox of Leavenworth and Rose Bickle of Cashmere; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Jeff Nelson
Former Bremerton resident Jeffrey Arthur "Jeff" Nelson, 45, of Littleton, Colo., died of brain cancer Aug. 14, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1955, in Seattle to Jorgen and Betty (Woodworth) Nelson. He graduated in 1974 from Bremerton's East High School.
Mr. Nelson earned a bachelor's degree in management engineering from Claremont Men's College in Claremont, Calif., in 1978; a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., also in 1978; and a master's degree in industrial engineering from Stanford in 1980. He completed additional doctoral studies in finance and economics.
He married
Margot Palmer on Sept. 6, 1980, in Camas.
Mr. Nelson worked in executive management and consulting for 20 years.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, including cycling, golf and tennis. He was a member of Genesis Presbyterian Church in Littleton.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Bremerton; two daughters, Laura and Lisa, both of Littleton; and two brothers, James, his twin brother, and Jorgen, both of Bremerton.
A service was held Aug. 19 at Genesis Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to a hospice of the donor's choice.
John Brown
John Loren Brown, 58, of Port Orchard died of asbestosis Aug. 26, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Earl and Mabine (Thomas) Brown.
Mr. Brown served in the Navy from 1960 to 1966.
He married
Susan Kay Sutton on Dec. 14, 1985, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Brown was a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 14 years, retiring in 1993 because of disability.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and horses.
Survivors include his wife; his stepmother, Joan Brown of New Hampton, N.H.; one son, Matt of Port Orchard; four daughters, Megan Brown and Colleen Greer, both of Port Orchard, Tammy Odermann of Belfair and Dawna Trent of New Hampton; two sisters, both of New Hampton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service.
Laila Pearne
Laila Egbert Pearne, 91, died Aug. 19, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Vader to Jacob and Impi Erving. She graduated from Winlock High School and attended the University of Washington.
She married
Gordon Egbert in 1935. The couple returned to Winlock and started Winlock Farms.
He preceded her in death in 1958.
She later married
Harrison Pearne.
She was active in the Children's Orthopedic Guild and enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon Egbert Jr. and Jack, both of Belfair; a sister, Taina Nelson of Winlock; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service and internment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Winlock cemetery.
