Maxine Liner
Former Silverdale resident Maxine E. Liner, 80, of Burlington died July 26, 2001, in Burlington.
She was born June 2, 1921, in Seattle to Elmer and Margie Hoffman.
She married
Ernest E. Liner on Sept. 1, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Liner was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, David of Bremerton; one daughter, Debra Skvarla of Anacortes; one sister, Karen Carlson of Seattle; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest, a brother, Elmer Hoffman, and two sisters, Marilyn Carrie and Beverly Trudeau.
At the family's request, no services will be held. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Gertie Henning
Gertrude "Gertie" Henning, 95, of Port Orchard died Aug. 8, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born March 2, 1906, in Lincoln, Neb.
She married
William Henning in Seattle in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Henning had worked as a tool room senior clerk with The Boeing Co. for 20 years.
She enjoyed bowling and playing the organ.
At her request, no services will be held. Cremation arrangements with scattering at sea are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Port Orchard Care Center.
Robert Black
Robert J. Black, 80, of Poulsbo died Aug. 2, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Forest Park, Ill., to Ed and Ruth (Hanna) Black.
Mr. Black served in the Army Air Corps.
He worked later as a bus driver with Trailways for 18 years and with the North Kitsap School District for 14 years. He retired in 1994.
He is survived by one son, Robert of Poulsbo; and one grandchild.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Steven Sanchez
Steven Bucsit Sanchez, 87, of Port Orchard died Aug. 7, 2001, following a lengthy illness at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Bacnotan La Union, Philippines, to Anselmo and Elrya (Bucsit) Sanchez. He graduated from San Fernando La Union High School in 1930.
He married
Teresa Vergara. She preceded him in death in 1971.
He married
Candida Vergara on April 15, 1971, on Bainbridge Island.
Mr. Sanchez had worked as a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop 11. He retired in 1973.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Filipino American Community of Kitsap County and St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven Jr. of Yelm and Stephen of Seattle; one brother, Pio of the Philippines; and one sister, Persegona Valmonte of the Philippines. He was preceded in death by a brother, Domingo, and a sister, Magdelena Bucat.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday also at Rill Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Hilda Patterson
Hilda L. Patterson, 79, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure Aug. 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Waupaca, Wis., to Alvin and Theresa Jole. She graduated from Highline High School in Seattle in 1937 and attended Olympic College.
She married
C.W. "Pat" Patterson in 1939. They were divorced in 1965, and he preceded her in death in 2000.
She worked with quality assurance at the Naval Supply Center in Bremerton for 27 years, retiring in 1989.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing as a member of the Bernina Club. She was a member of the Free Methodist church and had been attending First Church of the Nazarene in Bremerton.
Survivors include one daughter, Denise Foiles of Bremerton; one brother, Herbert Jole of Florida; three sisters, Myrtle Marie Hill of Bremerton, Alma Anderson of Forks and Nora Dent of Reno, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Patterson in 2000 and by a brother, Melvin Jole.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, 924 Sheridan Road in Bremerton.

John Cloward
John Robert Cloward, 51, of Bremerton died July 31, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born April 21, 1950, in Oregon City, Ore. He graduated in 1968 from East High School in Bremerton.
In the early 1970s, he served in the Air Force Reserve, later transferring to the Oregon National Guard.
Mr. Cloward also was an auto mechanic and painter for 10 years.
He enjoyed motorcycles.
Survivors include his parents, Bob and Laveta Cloward of Bremerton; four brothers, Andy of Southworth, Marty and Larry, both of Poulsbo, and Bruce of Brownsville; and his grandmother, Ruby Sturgill of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike.
A gathering of friends and family will be held later. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Juanita Dossey
Juanita Dossey, 85, of Bremerton died of natural causes Aug. 2, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Alvarado, Texas, to Asa Hill and Agnes Lane.
She was a nurse for 25 years, retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed knitting and her church affiliation. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include five sons, Jack Henderson of Burleson, Texas, John Henderson of Gary, Ind., Tom Dossey of Nevada, Tim Dossey of Idaho and Ted Dossey of Alvarado; five daughters, Anita Mitchell of Bremerton, Patsy Wallace of Lebanon, Ore., Frankie Appling of California and Jeannie Beckum and Hazel Stillwell, both of Alvarado; three brothers, Richard, Daniel and Fred Hill, all of Alvarado; one sister, Laquita Dixon of Fort Worth, Texas; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Waldo Hill, and a sister, Hazel Henson.
A graveside service is planned for Aug. 19 at Keene cemetery in Keene, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.
Curtis Larson
Curtis L. Larson, 78, of Bremerton died of cancer July 31, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 8, 1923, in Grenora, N.D., to Palmer and Anna (Opdahl) Larson. He graduated from Northwood High School in Northwood, N.D., in 1942.
Mr. Larson served in the Army during World War II.
He farmed in North Dakota and later was a crane operator in the foundry at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement.
Mr. Larson was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed all sports.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Arnold of Bremerton and Cheryl Flanary and Karen Meece, both of Bend, Ore.; and one brother, Arnold Larson of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cyrus, Floyd, Leroy and Richard.
At his request, no services will be held. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent with arrangements under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.
Bette Walker
Bette Rosalie Walker, 57, of Bremerton died Aug. 3, 2001, in Seattle.
She was born Feb. 19, 1944, in Bellingham to Edwin and Elsie Barben.
She graduated from high school in Sedro-Woolley in 1962, received a bachelor of arts in education from Seattle Pacific University and a master's in education from the University of California-Berkeley.
She taught home economics in Bremerton for many years.
She was a member of the teaching sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa, and Sylvan Way Baptist Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her mother, Elsie Barben of Poulsbo; a son, Neil Walker of Seattle; and three sisters, Barbera Brendle of Issaquah, Marguerite Dyer of Poulsbo and Caroline Barben of Silverdale.

Joseph Hamblet
Joseph Edward Hamblet, 83, of Bremerton died of lung cancer Aug. 6, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born June 13, 1918, in Everett to Eli and Grace (Botsford) Hamblet. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1936.
He married
Delores Horton on July 2, 1949, in Seattle.
Mr. Hamblet served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded five medals of commendation.
Mr. Hamblet was a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4992 and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bradford, Edward, Robert and Michael A., all of Bremerton; two daughters, Sharon Adkisson and Joanne Triggs, both of Bremerton; one brother, Eli Hamblet of Coupeville; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Silverdale Lutheran Church with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy Neff
Dorothy W. Neff, 74, of Silverdale died Aug. 3, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Honolulu, to Wong and Tom (Au) Chang.
She was an aircraft logistics analyst in civil service.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and was active in her church.
Her survivors include a son, Robert of Everett; a daughter, Cindy Patton of Bremerton; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
