James Malloy
James E. Malloy, 97, of Gig Harbor died Aug. 6, 2001, in Gig Harbor.
He was born April 23, 1904, in Seattle to Arthur and Josephine (Corning) Malloy. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle.
He married
Dorothy Follette in Seattle in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1984.
Mr. Malloy served in the Army. He also worked as a marine electrician at Todd Shipyard.
He enjoyed baseball and was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Millicent Hunsperger of Tacoma; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo, followed by a funeral service at 9 a.m. Interment
will be at Holyrood cemetery in Seattle. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Levi Whiting
Former Bremerton resident Levi Bartholomew Whiting, 17, of Marysville died Aug. 5, 2001, following an automobile accident.
He was born June 25, 1984, in Everett to Bart and Sheri (DeGroot) Whiting. This fall, he was planning to enter his senior year at Pilchuck High School in Marysville.
He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the golf team at his school.
Survivors include his father, Bart of Coyle; his mother and stepfather, Sheri and Brian Fees of Marysville; grandparents, Louise Carter of Bremerton and John and Margaret DeGroot of Marysville; step-grandparents, Jack and Judy Fees of Guimes Island; and great-grandmothers, Cora Munneke of Marysville and Alice DeGroot of Everett.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smokey Point Community Church in Arlington.
A private burial will be at Evergreen cemetery in Everett. Arrangements are under the direction of Solie Funeral Home in Everett.
Memorial donations may be made in Levi's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jerry Reiff
Gerald N. "Jerry" Reiff, 74, of Poulsbo died of mesothelomia Aug. 5, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Norristown, Pa., to Eugene Reiff and Dorothy Fretz. He graduated from high school in 1943 in Millington, Md., from High Point College in High Point, N.C., and from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia.
He married
Helen Shapcott.
Mr. Reiff served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1948, and in the Navy from 1960 to 1982, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with eight stars and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal.
He was a Presbyterian minister and a Navy chaplain for 22 years, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking and physical fitness.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Dorothy McGreevy of Croydon, Pa.; three daughters, Chery Ann of Jamul, Calif., Deborah Susan O'Brien of Fallbrook, Calif., and Lois Louise Pischinger of Lemon Grove, Calif.; one brother, Paul of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Ethella Louisa Romano of Churchville, Pa., and Margaret Ann (McGreevy) Miller of Quebec, Canada; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church.

Jarvis Jennings
Jarvis Jerome Jennings Sr., 64, of Bremerton died Aug. 4, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Anniston, Ala., to Carlie and Ora (Birdsong) Jennings. He graduated in 1954 from Anniston High School and from Olympic College.
Mr. Jennings served in the Navy from 1955 to 1975, achieving the rank of chief boiler technician. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a boilermaker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He and his wife, Estella, were married
May 27, 2000, at Hillcrest Assembly of God.
Mr. Jennings enjoyed golf and sports. He was a member of Hillcrest Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jarvis Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga.; eight daughters, Teresa Jennings Lee and Diane Kellmer, both of Bremerton, Cecilia Lawson of Lake Worth, Fla., Janet and Jacqueline Jennings, both of Lithonia, Ga., Barbara Sterkenturt of Indianapolis, Sharon Jennings of Eatonton, Ga., and Delorse Shealy of Cleveland; three brothers, Wilber of Atlanta and James and Perry, both of Anniston; three sisters, Mary Grier, Nina Ammons and Gloria Franks, all of Anniston; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Assembly of God, 6750 Highway 303 NE in Bremerton. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Edgar Hatcher
Former Bremerton resident Edgar Lee "Ed" "Eddie" Hatcher, 57, of Cocolalla, Idaho, died of cancer Aug. 3, 2001, in Cocolalla.
He was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Bremerton to Ray and Della (Morse) Hatcher. He graduated from Bothell High School.
He married
Janet Mae Schmoke on March 18, 1971, in Bellevue.
Mr. Hatcher worked in construction in the Redmond area until 1971. He owned Hatcher Enterprises in Cocolalla from 1971 until the time of his death.
He was a member of Southside Community Church in Cocolalla.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Poulsbo; six sons, Jeffrey and Kevin, both of Cocolalla, Shaun and Bryan, both of Spokane, Jeffery of Bellevue and Edgar of Los Angeles; one daughter, Jill Musselwhite of Monroe; one brother, Ray of Bellevue; three sisters, Mary Lou Holloway of Poulsbo, Patricia Rubens of Creston and Berniece Lee of Wenatchee; and 21 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Southside Community Church. Interment
will be at Westmond cemetery in Cocolalla. Arrangements are under the direction of Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Larry Johnson
Laurence E. "Larry" Johnson, 59, of Bremerton died of a heart attack July 23, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 31, 1941, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Ed and Kate (Boyle) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the Coast Guard. He also was a carpenter.
He was a member of the Elks and a Methodist. He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include one son, Zac of Bremerton; one daughter, Mikayli of Bremerton; and one brother, Glenn of Oak Brook, Ill.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 11th Street and Veneta Avenue, in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.
Gilbert Ames
Gilbert Seldon Ames, 91, of Port Orchard died Aug. 2, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace.
He was born Aug. 13, 1909, in Ray, N.D., to Clint and Ida Matilda (Olson) Ames.
He married
Etta Jane Hubbard on Jan. 27, 1934, in Montesano.
Mr. Ames worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years, retiring as a welder in 1969.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Beverly Jane Robins of East Wenatchee, Janet Ruth Wooten of Port Orchard and Judith Marie Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Latherow; and a brother, Willard.
A private memorial service will be held.

Ruth Kaye
Ruth E. Kaye, 81, of Bremerton died Aug. 3, 2001, at home.
She was born June 17, 1920, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Charles and Anna Marie (West) Phillips.
She married
Harold Kaye on April 14, 1944. He preceded her in death in 2000.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and baseball.
Survivors include two sons, William of Seabeck and John of Bremerton; two daughters, Patricia Merwin of San Francisco and Marilyn Harris of Mill Creek; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Marvin Grande
Marvin Grande, 88, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure following a fall July 29, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
He was born April 17, 1913, in Brainard, Minn., to Marcus and Sarah (Johnson) Grande. He graduated in 1932 from Duluth Central High School in Duluth, Minn., and graduated from Duluth State Teacher's College.
He married
Inez Saari on Nov. 19, 1938, in Duluth.
He was a commander in the Naval Reserve from 1941 to 1973.
He was a civilian with the Department of the Navy in Long Beach, Calif., and Washington, D.C. Mr. Grande was a supervisor of the computer section of the supply department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 22 years, retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed snow ski jumping as a youth and in later years backpacking.
He was a member of Unity Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife of Chico; a daughter, Karen Best of Chico; a brother, John Pershing of Silverdale; two sisters, Gladys Foster of Duluth and Gudrun Heims of Bloomington, Minn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ardath Nesberg, Ruby Olson and Lorna Carlson.
A family gathering is planned for a later date.

Mary Lou Armstrong
Mary Lou Armstrong, 78, of Bremerton died Aug. 3, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born May 19, 1923, in Seattle to William and Mary Alice (Neal) Gray. She graduated in 1942 from Seattle's Franklin High School.
She worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Supply Center, retiring in 1978.
Survivors include one son, William of Bremerton; one daughter, Nancy Harrison of Bremerton; one sister, Margery Pederson of Yuma, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, William Gray Jr.
A memorial service will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bremerton Senior Center, 1140 Nipsic in East Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Lake View cemetery in Seattle.
Gertrude Nichols
Gertrude Nichols, 88, of Silverdale died Aug. 5, 2001, in Silverdale.
She was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Newton, Mass.
She married
John Nichols. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker.
She enjoyed music and dancing. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include a daughter, Bette Powers of Hansville; two brothers, John Galvin of Natick, Mass., and Joseph Galvin of Framingham, Mass.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
