Ronald McWhorter
Ronald Paul McWhorter, 67, of Port Orchard died of heart and lung complications July 16, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1933, in Kayford, W.Va., to Charles and Ruby (Stanley) McWhorter. He was educated in Kentucky.
He married Jo Linda Scaggs on April 3, 1953, in Ashland, Ky.
He was a truck driver and an auto body technician for 39 years, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles of Bremerton; two daughters, Lisa Mullikin and Melissa Ayers, both of Port Orchard; a brother, Bob of Ohio; two sisters, Juanita Davis and Delethia Kitchen, both of Kentucky; and five grandchildren.
Private services are planned.

Glennisa Sammons
Glennisa Pauline Sammons, 64, of Bremerton died of a heart attack July 12, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1937, in Yakima to Glenn and Pauline Sherman. She graduated from Grosemont High School in El Cajon, Calif.
She married Maurice Sammons on June 26, 1954, in Kennewick. They were later divorced.
She loved animals and was a Mariners fan.
Survivors include her former husband; her mother, Katherine Pauline Jackson of Bremerton; three sons, Mark, Rex and John, all of Bremerton; a daughter, Shyla Sammons Noonan of Silverdale; two sisters, Barbara Jensen of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Karen Hultman of Hansville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Glenn Sherman of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Crossroads Neighborhood Church on the corner of Fairgrounds and Old Military roads.
Memorial donations may be made to Kitsap Humane Society or to American Diabetes Association.

Buck Rough
Duane E. "Buck" Rough, 79, of Silverdale died of mesothelioma July 13, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born July 25, 1921, in Struthers, Ohio, to Joseph and Marie (Johnson) Rough. He was educated in Pocatello, Idaho, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1937 and completing a Union Pacific apprenticeship there in 1941.
He married Dorothy Brown on Oct. 14, 1939, in Pocatello. She preceded him in death in 1977.
He married Judy (Gray) Walls on July 19, 1982, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Mr. Rough served in the Navy as a machinist mate from 1943 to 1946.
He later was a nuclear toolmaker for 27 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop 06, retiring in 1984. He previously worked with the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho for 10 years.
Mr. Rough enjoyed traveling and racing cars and motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diane Davis Lidyard of LaQuinta, Calif; a stepson, Kenneth Walls of Poulsbo; two stepdaughters, Cathy Walls of North Bend and Carolyn Walls Stewart of Woodinville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Silverdale United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Donna Rux
Donna L. Rux, 59, of Seabeck died of congestive heart failure July 13, 2001, in Merced, Calif.
She was born March 5, 1942, in Modesto, Calif., to William and Angie (Kosich) Rux. She was a 1960 graduate of Downey High School in Modesto and attended Olympic College.
She was an activities assistant for 18 years at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
She loved cats and was a Mariners fan.
She is survived by her companion, Orion Hanson of Seabeck. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. July 25 at Washington Veterans Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Washington Veterans Home or to Kitsap Humane Society.

Avis Van Dolah
Avis D. Van Dolah, 83, of Poulsbo died July 17, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born May 22, 1918, in Belgrade, Mont., to Earl and Myrtle (Coulson) Baker. She graduated from Bozeman High School in Bozeman, Mont.
She married Edward Van Dolah on Aug. 25, 1956, in Livingston, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1962.
Mrs. Van Dolah was a retail clerk for many years.
She enjoyed painting and gardening. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Minder of Poulsbo and Louina Scurlock of Terrebone, Ore.; a brother, Thomas Payne of Livingston; a sister, Mary Harrod of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Jerry Baker.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A rosary and celebration of life will be Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton, Ore. Interment icon will be at Restlawn cemetery in Salem, Ore.
Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, Washington Affiliate, 557 Roy St., Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109-4219, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Catherine Smith
Former Bremerton resident Catherine C. Smith, 83, of Kirkland died July 10, 2001, at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland.
She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Spokane to Arthur and Belle (Russell) Cory. She graduated from North Central High School in Spokane.
She married Les E. Smith on May 29, 1940, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Les of Silverdale and Blane Smith-Crowley of Sacramento; a daughter, Dianne Cook of Pottstown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to March of Dimes, 1904 Third Ave., Suite 230, Seattle, WA 98101.

Lawrence Bogert
Lawrence C. Bogert Jr., 70, of Tacoma died of a heart attack July 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1930, to Lawrence C. and Lilah (Carroll) Bogert in Inkster, N.D.
Mr. Bogert served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949, attaining the rank of chief petty officer.
He married Sonja Jorde in Grand Forks, N.D., on Oct. 4, 1950, and settled in Bremerton in 1951. She preceded him in death in 1978.
He married Margaret Lawless of Tacoma in 1989.
Mr. Bogert was a Kitsap County sheriff's deputy for eight years and was an investigator for the Department of Labor and Industries for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a Seattle Mariners fan and car enthusiast.
Mr. Bogert was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife; son, James of Bremerton; a stepson, Darcy Speidel of Gig Harbor; a daughter, Joan Clouse of Mead; four brothers, Leo of Sunnyslope, Dallas of Federal Way, Marvin of Huntington, Ind., and Gordon of Des Moines; and six grandchildren.
Services have been held.
Arrangements were under the direction of Gaffney Funeral Home in Tacoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Betty Allen
Viola "Betty" Allen, 79, of Bremerton died July 13, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 11, 1922, in Bisbee, N.D., to Olaf and Mary Edwards..
She enjoyed spending time with her family and baking. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Earl; a son, Larry Bohlman of Sunnyslope; a daughter, Linda McIntosh of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, O. L. Edwards of Arizona; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Loren White; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Helen.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at 5464 E. Agate Road in Shelton.

Tux Doré
Alcidas "Tux" L. Doré, 91, of Bremerton died July 10, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1910, in Willow City, N.D., to Onesime and Clara (Doust) Doré. He was educated in Seattle.
He married Pauline Gardner in Seattle in 1940.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946.
He was a local restaurant owner for five years, then he sailed with the Merchant Marines from 1968 to 1984.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, a son, John of Tracyton; a daughter, Janet L. Christopherson of Tracyton; four grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. July 28, 2001, at Janet and Richard Christopherson's home. Private graveside services were held July 13, 2001. Arrangements were under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Kitsap County Humane Society, 9167 Dickey Road NW, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Arnold McClarin
Arnold E. McClarin, 67, of Bremerton died of cancer July 14, 2001, at Naval Hospital in Bremerton.
He was born May 7, 1934, in Astoria, Ore., to Lee and Emma (Trantow) McClarin. He graduated from high school in Astoria.
He married Martha Crow on Aug 5, 1958, in Bremerton.
He served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1974, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He was awarded several medals, including the Air Force and Vietnam Service medals. He later was an engineering technician for the U.S. Bureau of Mines and was an interstate truck driver for 16 years, retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed traveling in his motor home.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Dan, both of Bremerton; a daughter, Sandra Richter Stevens, of Point, Wis.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bailey.
A memorial and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tahoma National cemetery.
