Walfred Carlson
Walfred Carlson, 80, of Bremerton died June 27, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Bismarck, N.D., to Charles and Anna (Bostrum) Carlson. He was educated in Bismarck.
He married Gladys Howard in Reno, Nev., in 1939. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Carlson served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a private first class. He received awards for sharpshooting.
He was a roofer for 40 years.
He enjoyed RV travel with his wife and family.
Survivors include a son, Robert of Anchorage, Alaska; three daughters, Margy Hall of Bremerton, Judy White of Arlington and Linda Appleton of Marysville; two sisters, Ann Oachs and Edith McClain, both of Walla Walla; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Carl.
A memorial service will be held in Walla Walla. Inurnment will be in Walla Walla. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Disease Association, 1959 NE Pacific St., Division of Neurology, RG-27, Seattle, WA 98195.

Hugh Rackleff
Hugh McDonald Rackleff, 82, of Bremerton died June 30, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Myrtle Point, Ore.,
to George and Myrtle (McDonald) Rackleff. He graduated in 1936 from Marshville High School in Coos Bay, Ore.
Mr. Rackleff served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a cabinet maker. He worked for Johnson Lumber and retired from the Bremerton School District.
Mr. Rackleff enjoyed woodcarving and painting.
Survivors include a son, Hugh of Yachates, Ore.; a daughter, Sally Ann Overhuls of Canby, Ore.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with private interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Debbra Woods
Debbra L. Woods, 34, of Port Orchard died of cancer June 30, 2001, at her home.
She was born July 5, 1966, in Bremerton to Roxanne and Delancey "Del" Woods. She attended South Kitsap High School.
She was a pet groomer with Petco in Bremerton.
She enjoyed camping and animals. She attended Belfair Assembly of God.
Her survivors include a son, Miles of Port Orchard; her father of Port Orchard; her stepfather, Richard McCurdy of Port Orchard; two brothers, Delancey "Skip" Woods of Belfair and Richard "Rick" McCurdy of Port Orchard; and her stepgrandparents, Stanley and Fran McCurdy of Port Orchard. She was preceded in death by her mother; her maternal grandparents, Jack and Bette Kanouse; and her paternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belfair Assembly of God, 23001 NE State Route 3. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Eva Edmonds
Eva Charlotte Edmonds, 97, of Bremerton died of natural causes June 23, 2001, at Virginia Mycon's Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born April 10, 1904, in Portland, Ore., to Charles and Frieda (Wilhelm) French. She graduated in 1921 from Lincoln High School in Portland.
She married John Edmonds on July 26, 1925, in Portland. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Edmonds was an office manager at Bremer's Department Store for 25 years, retiring in 1969, and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
She is survived by two sons, Edward and John Jr. "Buzz, " both of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A private family celebration of life was held June 23 at the home of Buzz and Marilyn Edmonds. Entombment took place at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kenneth Smith
Former Bremerton resident Kenneth Alfred Smith, 81, of Auburn, Calif., died June 12, 2001, in Auburn.
He was born April 6, 1920, in Salt Lake Cit, to Arthur and Sylvia Smith. He graduated from Anaconda Senior High School in Anaconda, Mont.
He married Ruth Hatlestad on Aug. 31, 1941, in Anaconda.
Mr. Smith served with the Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a chief petty officer.
He was a private contractor in Montana and later was a construction representative at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He worked at PSNS for 17 years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Elks Club and was a volunteer at the Senior Outreach Center in Bremerton. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and James, both of Pocatello, Idaho; two daughters, Sally Loble of Bozeman, Mont., and Susan Michaels of Colfax, Calif.; a brother, Lloyd of Maryland; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held June 18 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn. Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hills of Auburn.

Clarabelle Hower
Clarabelle Hower, 86, of Port Orchard died of complications from a stroke June 27, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born April 4, 1915, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., to Edward and Etta (Higgins) Roberts.
She married Theron Aten Hower on June 12, 1936, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Hower was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Charles of Southworth; a daughter, Juanita Stoner of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. July 19 at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sedgwick cemetery in Port Orchard.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103.

William Fogli
William Benjamin Fogli, 79, of Bainbridge Island died of cancer June 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Chicago to Thomas and Alma (Wirth) Fogli. He graduated from high school in Chicago, in 1938 from Lane Technical College in Chicago and from Olympic College.
He married Shirley Rae Bond in 1943.
Mr. Fogli served in the Army infantry from 1938 to 1945, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was awarded a Bronze Star and the American Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Thomas of Quilcene and Michael James of Kent; a brother, Lawrence Charles of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 1310 Madison Ave. N. on Bainbridge Island.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Florence Garland Dowse
Florence Garland Dowse, 99, of Bremerton died of pneumonia June 16, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 27, 1901, in Forsyth, Mo., to Richard and Eva (May) Blofeld. She graduated from Hollister School For Girls in Hollister, Mo.
She married Guy Garland in 1922. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She married John Dowse in 1980. He preceded her in death in 1982.
She worked for the Horticulture Union in Yakima for many years.
She enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Garland of Bremerton and Don Garland of Seattle; two daughters, Betty Fowler of Bremerton and Maeno Meyers of Port Orchard; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, no service will be held. Inurnment is at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle.

Steve E. Edwards
Steve E. Edwards, 26, of Bremerton died in an automobile accident in East Bremerton on June 28, 2001.
He was born June 15, 1975, in Wenatchee to Larry Edwards and Linda (LeMieux) Edwards.
He attended Federal Way High School and Western Washington University in Bellingham.
Mr. Edwards was married March 27, 1999, to Lisa Lenhardt.
He was a transmission torque converter specialist with Bremerton Transmission for eight years.
His hobbies included basketball and drag racing at Seattle Internatinal Raceway. He also was a member of the Bremerton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife ; his father of Auburn and mother in Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Jaycob Stevo Edwards; a daughter, April Edwards; a brother, Scott Edwards of Mount Vernon; and three sisters, Theresa Whitsman, and Sarah and Allison, all of Texas.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way in Bremerton. A date for the memorial service will be announced later.

Glenn E. Hagen
Glenn E. Hagen, 82, of Bremerton died of natural causes July 2, 2001 in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 12, 1918, to Glenn and Doris (Peabody) Pope in Seattle.
Mr. Hagen graduated from Bremerton High School and later graduated from the University of Washington in 1943.
He was a World War II veteran.
He also was a research scientist with NASA, Williams Oil, Bendix and Northrup.
His enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Glenn Jr. of Suquamish; three daughters, Pam Himes and Judy Averill, both of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Jaquelyn Van Aucken of Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday night. Those wishing to attend can call the family for information.
