Florence Garland Dowse
Florence Garland Dowse, 99, of Bremerton died of pneumonia June 16, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 27, 1901, in Forsyth, Mo., to Richard and Eva (May) Blofeld. She graduated from Hollister School For Girls in Hollister, Mo.
She married Guy Garland in 1922. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She married John Dowse in 1980. He preceded her in death in 1982.
She worked for the Horticulture Union in Yakima for many years.
She enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Garland of Bremerton and Don Garland of Seattle; two daughters, Betty Fowler of Bremerton and Maeno Meyers of Port Orchard; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, no service will be held. Inurnment is at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle.

Steve E. Edwards
Steve E. Edwards, 26, of Bremerton died in an automobile accident in East Bremerton on June 28, 2001.
He was born June 15, 1975, in Wenatchee to Larry Edwards and Linda (LeMieux) Edwards.
He attended Federal Way High School and Western Washington University in Bellingham.
Mr. Edwards was married March 27, 1999, to Lisa Lenhardt.
He was a transmission torque converter specialist with Bremerton Transmission for eight years.
His hobbies included basketball and drag racing at Seattle Internatinal Raceway. He also was a member of the Bremerton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife ; his father of Auburn and mother in Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Jaycob Stevo Edwards; a daughter, April Edwards; a brother, Scott Edwards of Mount Vernon; and three sisters, Theresa Whitsman, and Sarah and Allison, all of Texas.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way in Bremerton. A date for the memorial service will be announced later.

Walfred Carlson
Walfred Carlson, 80, of Bremerton died June 27, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Bismarck, N.D., to Charles and Anna (Bostrum) Carlson. He was educated in Bismarck.
He married Gladys Howard in Reno, Nev., in 1939. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Carlson served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a private first class. He received awards for sharpshooting.
He was a roofer for 40 years.
He enjoyed RV travel with his wife and family.
Survivors include a son, Robert of Anchorage, Alaska; three daughters, Margy Hall of Bremerton, Judy White of Arlington and Linda Appleton of Marysville; two sisters, Ann Oachs and Edith McClain, both of Walla Walla; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Carl.
A memorial service will be held at Walla Walla at a later date. Inurnment will be in Walla Walla. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Disease Association, 1959 NE Pacific St., Division of Neurology, RG-27, Seattle, WA 98195.

Wilma Willson
Former Port Orchard resident Wilma Willson, 87, of Puyallup died of cancer June 18, 2001, in Puyallup.
She was born July 11, 1913, in Seattle to Fred and Letta Franklin. She graduated from Wichita University in Wichita, Kan.
She married Edward Carter. He preceded her in death.
She married Donald Willson. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Willson was a teacher. She founded and operated a private business college in Alaska and Washington. She was retired.
She was a member of the Elks, the Retired Officers Association and Puyallup Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Carter of Bothell and David Willson of Stuart, Fla.; a daughter, Dr. Dianne Carter of Boulder, Colo.; and two grandsons.
Interment will be at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Puyallup Church of the Nazarene, Senior Adult Ministries, 1026 Seventh Ave. SW, Puyallup, WA 98371.

Robert O'Neill
Robert Michael O'Neill, 78, of Shelton died June 27, 2001, in Shelton.
He was born March 8, 1923, in Wauna, to Everett and Marjorie (Kendall) O'Neill.
Mr. O'Neill was a self-educated entrepreneur. He was an evergreen harvester until his retirement in 1983.
He enjoyed collecting old cars and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his companion, Sharon Kneip of Shelton; a son, Jim O'Neill of Coos Bay, Ore.; five daughters, Anna Marie Applebee of Oroville, Vickie Satran, Nikki Bacon, Mickie Postier and Mitzie Warren, all of Belfair; two brothers, Everett of Poulsbo and Collin of Edgewood; a sister, Geraldine Kassin of Roundup, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is at 3 to 6 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for noon Monday at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.

Elizabeth Duncan
Elizabeth M. Duncan, 73, of Poulsbo died June 26, 2001, in Seattle.
She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Philadelphia to George and Margaret (Golden) Doll. She attended high school in Philadelphia.
She married Herbert Duncan on Feb. 21, 1958, in Port Townsend. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She was as a waitress at Viking House and Idle Hour restaurants.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Duncan of Poulsbo; two sisters, Alberta Helgeland and Laura Doll, both of New Jersey; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, George and William Doll, and two sisters, Helen Powell and Margaret Edwards.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Ruth Walker
Ruth Walker, 96, of Port Orchard died June 28, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Oct. 19, 1904, in Carson.
She married Emil Walker in 1925 in Vancouver, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She was retired from a 20-year career as a clerical worker at Olympic College.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine.
She is survived by a grandson, Robert Walker of Port Orchard; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Dr. Rafique Kassim
Rafique Kassim, M.D., 55, of Poulsbo died May 16, 2001, of myocardial infarction in Poulsbo.
He was born April 3, 1946, in Bombay, India, to Dr. A.M. and Khatija Kassim. He graduated from St. Patrick's School in 1965 and from Dow Medical College in 1970, both located in Karachi, Pakistan.
He served in the Navy from 1970 to 1985 achieving the rank of lieutenant commander.
He operated his own medical practice in Silverdale.
Dr. Kassim enjoyed reading and travel. He was Muslim.
Survivors include his mother of Karachi; a daughter, Summer of California; and a sister, Shehnaz of Karachi. He was preceded in death by a brother, Yusuf Kassim.
Interment is at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of House of Mercy in Kent.

Carl Rhodes
Carl E. "Dusty" Rhodes Jr., 76, of Bremerton died of cancer June 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1924, in Shelbina, Mo., to Carl and Mabel (Minor) Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1953 as a demolition specialist. He was awarded the Purple Heart with gold star and various Asiatic theater ribbons.
He was an ordinance specialist to engineering, designer and engineer scientist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1973.
He was a member of the Lions Club and the Marine Corps League.
He attended Central Valley Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three sons, Carl F. "Rusty" of Ava, Mo., Terry of Dayton, Ohio, and David Crist of Dayton; four daughters, Carlene Schleben of Oxnard, Calif., Renee Cain of Cottonwood, Calif., Jeri Gavette of Ava and Shari Boudreau of San Diego; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas; and a sister, Mary Louise Roberts.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Valley Christian Fellowship, 6869 Central Valley Road, in Bremerton. Inurnment with full military honors will be at Tahoma National cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Rod Orton Thanatology Services of Port Orchard.
Memorial donations may be made to Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 69, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Sylvia Braun
Sylvia Braun, 97, of Silverdale died June 26, 2001, at Mycon Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born June 30, 1903, in Snyder, Neb., to Henry and Alvina (Schwartz) Bleyhl.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley Neisius of Northridge, Calif., and Floyd Neisius of Melbourne, Fla.; two daughters, Betty Greaser of Poulsbo and Dolores Weis of Brandon, Fla.; a sister, Mable Waite of Roswell, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Orlando Neisius of Fremont, Neb.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Gay Seachord
Gay D. Seachord, 74, of Gorst died June 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born May 29, 1927, in La Salle, Colo., to Elmus and Ada (Abbott) Seachord.
He married Patsy Miller in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Seachord was a brick mason with Heritage Fireplace in Gorst for more than 30 years. He retired in 1998.
He enjoyed gardening and going to Reno.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike of Gorst and Nick; two daughters, Jo and Alita; two stepsons, Richard Abbott of Gorst and Delbert Walker of Vancouver, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Elaine Counts of Columbia Falls, Mont., and Linda of Alaska; three sisters, Joy Bales of Bremerton, Dotty Ahrens of Tacoma and Shirley Shattun of Port Orchard; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Lee.
A memorial and potluck will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the family home, 4011 Division Ave. W., in Gorst.
Memorial donations may be made to Group Health Hospice in Tacoma.
