Isaac Porter Hayes
James Bryant "Isaac" Porter Hayes, 42, of Bremerton died May 18, 2001, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born Dec. 16, 1958, in Spokane to James and Shirley (Mullowney) Porter. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1977.
He worked at the Bremerton School District in facilities maintenance for 11 years. Later, he became self-employed in the construction business.
He enjoyed auto restoration and landscaping.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Whitman of Spokane; his father, James Porter of Spokane; a daughter, Jamie Gilbert of Port Orchard; a brother, Jerry of Puyallup; three sisters, JoAnn Burpee and Julie Tandy, both of Kent, and Denise Hoyos of Kirkland; and his grandmother, Ruby Moore of Spokane.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. June 16 at the propeller sculpture on the Bremerton Boardwalk.

Maryfran Smith
Maryfran Smith, 47, of Bremerton died of colon cancer June 8, 2001, in Bremerton
She was born Aug. 16, 1953 in Berwyn, Ill., to Joseph Michael and Hildegarde (Kucaba) Sedlar.
She married
Scott Steven Smith Sept. 7, 1974, in Brookfield Ill.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Riverside Brookfield High School in 1971 and Triton Community College in River Grove, Ill. in 1973.
She was a bank teller at Frontier Bank in Silverdale for 20 years.
She enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls and was an ombudsman for submarine crew wives.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; her mother in Brookfield; a son, Christopher in Bremerton; a daughter, Michele in Bremerton; and two brothers, Michael in Walnut, Calif., and Jim in Brookfield.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road in Bremerton. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Ollie F. (King) Whitcomb
Ollie F. (King) Whitcomb, 85, of Vaughn died of cancer June 8, 2001, in her home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Jack County, Texas, to John Thomas and Laura Ann (Tate) Swetnam.
Mrs. Whitcomb was a homemaker.
She also was a friend and helper at Life Center in Tacoma and at First Baptist Church in Bremerton.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ray King in 1959, and William "Bud" Whitcomb in 1979; her daughter, Rae Nell LeMarr; and her son, Ronald King.
She is survived by a son, Donald G. King of Belton, Mo.; a daughter, Jeanine L. Johnson of Vaughn; a sister, Mildred Lund of Bremerton; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vaughn cemetery.

Marie Whitcomb
Marie M. Whitcomb, 83, of Manchester died June 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Centralia to Louis and Helena (Hearling) Teitzel.
She married
Norman Whitcomb on April 28, 1939, in Centralia. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Whitcomb was a homemaker. She was a nurse's aide at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, Errol of Southworth; two daughters, Leslie Jones and Mary Pitts, both of Port Orchard; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Bible Church, with interment at Bethel cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Betsy Miller
Elizabeth "Betsy" Miller, 52, of Port Orchard died after a 10-year battle with multiple myeloma June 7, 2001, at her home.
She was born Oct. 25, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo., to John and Mercedes (Lenz) Bosley. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kan., in 1966 and from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., in 1970. She completed medical training at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
She married
Lyle Miller on Aug. 11, 1972, in Lynnwood.
Mrs. Miller had was a medical technologist with Group Health for 15 years.
She enjoyed mountain climbing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Katy, Texas; a son, Bryan of Seattle; a daughter, Leigh of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Robert Bosley of Katy, Tom Bosley of Dallas and David Bosley of Tokyo, Japan. She was preceded in death by her father in March.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Fraola cemetery in the Olalla area.

Dolores Salabas
Dolores M. Salabas, 81, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure
June 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in the Philippines to Cornellia Mori.
She married
Sabiniano C. Salabas. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Almario and Arturo; four daughters, Leticia Kullander, Marietta Wilson, Dercita Sisson and Juliet; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 16 at Central Valley Christian Fellowship. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Raymond Miller
Raymond Carol Miller, 28, of Bremerton died June 5, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1972, in Joliet, Ill., to Raymond and Betty (Mulligan) Miller. He was educated in Ripley, Tenn., and in Joliet.
He married
Kathy Martin in 1993.
Mr. Miller was an auto body repairman. He enjoyed fishing and destruction derbies.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Derrek of Joliet; a daughter, Sierra Nicole of Bremerton; a brother, Rick of Belfair; and a sister, Shelly Sutton of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at The Family Church of God Pentecostal, 1403 Sidney Road in Port Orchard. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Gloria Charness
Gloria Delores (Fairbanks) Charness, 82, of Bremerton died after a lengthy illness June 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Bremerton to Harold and Zora (Brem) Fairbanks. She was educated in Bremerton and graduated from beauty school in Seattle.
She married
Abraham Charness in California. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Charness was a dressmaker/tailor and a beautician.
She enjoyed dollmaking and was a member of the Bremerton Art Guild.
Survivors include three sons, Gary McHenry of Seattle, Dennis McHenry of Rock Tavern, N.Y., and Dana Schaible of Bremerton; three daughters, Patricia Quintana of Bremerton, Teresa Love of Port Angeles and Jade Robinson of Peyton, Colo.; a brother, Fred Kuney of Seabeck; a sister, Helen Smith of Port Orchard; 13 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Fairbanks, and a sister, Lucille Plank.
At her request, no service is planned. A private memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
The family asks that no flowers be sent or donations be made.
Richard Smiley Jr.
Richard Edward Smiley Jr., 42, of Bremerton died May 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born March 30, 1959, in Port Angeles to Richard and Patty (Arnold) Smiley. He graduated in 1978 from Neah Bay High School. He attended Peninsula College in Port Angeles and completed an apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Seattle.
He married
Julie Ann Conrad on Feb. 27, 1982, in Neah Bay.
Mr. Smiley was an electrician and fisherman for 20 years.
He was a member of the Makah Tribe. He enjoyed fishing and origami.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Patty of Tacoma; his father, Richard of Spring Grove, Ill.; a son, Richard Edward III; two daughters, Yolanda Rose and Angela Lynn; and a brother, Terrance of Tacoma.
A service has been held.
Bud Walker
Arthur L. "Bud" Walker, 78, of Bremerton died June 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1922, in Bremerton to Fred and Jennie (Longmire) Walker.
Mr. Walker served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He worked for the Bremerton Sanitation Department and later was a truck driver for Arden Farms Dairy in Bremerton and Seattle until his retirement.
Mr. Walker was a member of the Teamsters Union and enjoyed league bowling.
Survivors include four sons, Robert, Richard, Michael and Brian, all of Bremerton; a brother, James of Bremerton; a sister, Peggy Havens of Silverdale; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred, in 1992.
A private family graveside service will be held. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
