June Huntley
June Sonya Huntley, 70, of Poulsbo died May 29, 2001, at home.
She was born March 10, 1931, in Malone, N.Y., to William and Gladys (Hunt) Ledger. She graduated in 1949 from Ogdensburg High School in New York and attended A. Barton Hepburn Nursing School.
She married
William Huntley Jr. on June 4, 1951, in New York State. He preceded her in death this year.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of Sons of Norway. She attended St. Charles Episcopal Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include two sisters, Janice DuMont of Chatcaugay, N.Y., and Joy Manson of Globe, Ariz.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at
St. Charles Episcopal Church. Cremation and inurnment arrangements are by Cherry Grove Crematory. Inurnment will be at Morningside cemetery in Malone, N.Y.
Stephen Ross
Stephen J. Ross, 26, of Bremerton died May 27, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1974, in Bremerton to Steven Ross and Toni Blye. He attended Antioch High School in Pittsburg, Calif.
He enjoyed karate and fishing. He was a Pentecostal.
Survivors include his father of Bremerton; his mother of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Aaron of Sacramento; a sister, Athena of Sacramento; grandparents, Admiral and Myrtle Ross of Bremerton and Joe McCree of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jahari, and his grandmother, Juanita McCree.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, both at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Interment
will take place at Oak View Memorial Park cemetery in Antioch, Calif.
Charlotte Worland-Packett
Charlotte M. Worland-Packett, 89, of Port Orchard died May 28, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Baring to Jack and Jennie (Hall) Wright. She graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle.
She was a comptroller at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She enjoyed traveling and dancing.
Survivors include a stepson, Robert Packett Jr.; a daughter, Ruth Muzzy of Everett; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Inurnment service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunrise Terrace Mausoleum in Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Delores Crowell
Delores Kathleen Crowell, 64, of Suquamish died May 26, 2001, at Harborview Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Poulsbo to Walter and Marie (Birkland) Nelson. She graduated from North Kitsap High School.
She married
John Crowell on Feb. 27, 1954, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
She was a nurse for 13 years and also was a homemaker.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mark of Bonney Lake and Scott of Suquamish; four daughters, Shelly, Brenda, Gail and Cherrie, all of Suquamish; a sister, Jeanine of Port Ludlow; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Harborview Medical Center.
Martha Shimkus
Martha W. Shimkus, 82, of Bremerton died May 27, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Timvick, N.D., to John and Lydia (Maier) Walker.
She was a homemaker.
She was a finalist in a senior beauty pageant and earned an award for her gingerbread house-making skill.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Wengel of Tualatin, Ore., and Robert Wengel of Longview; four daughters, De De Davis of Sun City, Ariz., Jacquelyn Mjelde of Bremerton, Margie Wengel of Morristown, Ariz., and Sandra Heintz of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Arthur Walker of Hamilton, Ohio, and Ed Walker of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Viola Robers of Orlando, Fla., and Ella Haaglund of Miltown, Mont.; 27 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1994; a brother; nine sisters; a daughter, Gearldine Wheeler; and a son, John.
A private memorial service is planned.

Derall Simonis
Derall George Simonis, 81, of Keyport died May 28, 2001, at home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Richland, Ore., to George and Rilla (Schultz) Simonis. He was educated in the Yakima Valley.
He married
Ruth Adams on Feb. 9, 1939, in Tacoma. She died in 1989.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1950 until retiring as general foreman shipfitter in 1978.
He was a member of the Elks 1181 and Sons of Norway in Poulsbo.
Survivors include two sons, Ron of Keyport and Derall of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, Dan of Yakima; two sisters, Vesta Paul of Yakima and Leona Mefford of Rockport, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Terry, and a grandson, Derall.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the family home. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Crematory. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Neil Carlson
Neil A. Carlson, 80, of Port Orchard died May 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1920, in Hoquiam to Charles and Selma (Hulten) Carlson. He graduated from Quinault High School.
He married
Ella Hibbs on Oct. 8, 1949. She died in 1990.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was a rigger in shop 72 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include five sons, Gary Powers of Olympia, Leroy Carlson of Gig Harbor, Charles Carlson of Manson, Monty Carlson of Poulsbo and Duane Carlson of Port Orchard; five daughters, Barbara Harkins of Ellensburg, Kimberley Eggleston of Silverdale, Nancy and Linda Carlson, both of Port Orchard, and Debra Kulikowski of Effingham, Ill.; a sister, Virmae Murphy of Montesano; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home.
Irene Squire
Irene M. Squire, 77, of Port Orchard died May 25, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born June 11, 1923, in Van Hook, N.D., to Lars and Mary Olson.
She married
Marshall Squire on Nov. 13, 1965, in Seattle.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Art Locken of Port Orchard, Randy Locken of Seattle and Tony Locken of Ridgefield; a stepson, Ronald Trask of Sumner; a stepdaughter, Marsha Faton of Federal Way; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Leona Swofford
Leona Eleanor Swofford, 85, of Port Orchard died May 29, 2001, at Belmont Terrace.
She was born June 17, 1915, in Pueblo, Colo., to George and Rose (Cantania) Langley. She received her education in Pueblo.
She was a cook at Rest Haven Nursing Home.
She enjoyed embroidery and doll collecting. She attended the Four Square Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a daughter, Ila Shipley of Yakima; and two brothers, George Langley of Pueblo and Kenneth Langley of Oceanside, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be in Puyallup.
Melvin Smeland
Melvin Smeland, 82, of Poulsbo died May 27, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Poulsbo to Andy Iverson and Matilda Somerseth. He was adopted and raised by John Smeland. He graduated in 1938 from North Kitsap High School.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal with bronze star and the Victory Medal Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
He was a commercial fisher for 31 years and also was a supervisor at NTS Keyport.
He enjoyed bowling and traveling and was a long time member of Sons of Norway in Poulsbo.
He attended First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ron of Bremerton and Gary of Poulsbo; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Philip Gallagher
Philip V. Gallagher, 75, of Bremerton died May 28, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Council Bluff, Iowa, to Vincent and Mary (Calkins) Gallagher. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Francis High School in Council Bluff.
On March 31, 1978, he married
Roberta Larum in Bremerton.
He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He was an equipment operator for Puget Power for 34 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Patrick of Irwin, Iowa; a stepson; two stepdaughters; a brother, Bernard of California; three sisters, Elizabeth Baldschun, Mary Nanfito and Joan Diblasi; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
