Dorothy Queen
Dorothy Bell Queen, 77, of Bremerton died May 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born June 29, 1923, in Osage County, Okla., to Jesse and Hallie (Trent) Roark. She graduated in 1941 from Snohomish High School and attended Central Washington Normal School.
She married
Carl Queen in Everett in 1954. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She enjoyed quilting and politics. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include three daughters, Andra Queen of Bremerton, and Gail Davis and Wanda Dawson, both of Bremerton; a brother, Lester Roark of Silverdale; two sisters, Lotus Boggs of Silverdale and Doris Griffith of Apple Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tracyton United Methodist.

Stephen Ross
Stephen J. Ross, 26, of Bremerton died May 27, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1974, in Bremerton to Steven Ross and Toni Blye. He attended Antioch High School in Pittsburg, Calif.
He enjoyed karate and fishing. He was a Pentecostal.
Survivors include his father of Bremerton; his mother of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Aaron of Sacramento; a sister, Athena of Sacramento; grandparents, Adm. and Myrtle Ross of Bremerton, and Joe McCree of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jahari, and his grandmother, Juanita McCree.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Interment
will take place at Oak View Memorial Park cemetery in Antioch.
Chuck Long
Former Port Orchard resident Charles W. "Chuck" Long, 67, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died May 27, 2001, in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born April 14, 1934, in Douthet, Okla., to Albert and Alpha (Stallings) Long.
He married
Dolores Scharbach 36 years ago.
He served in the Navy as a hull technician from 1953 to 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a pipefitter for Lockheed Ship Building for 41 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders of America.
Survivors include his wife of Sun Lakes; a son, Dennis of Corona, Calif.; a daughter, Elaine Forslund of Tacoma; and five grandchildren.
A private service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Valley of the Sun Mortuary and cemetery of Chandler, Ariz.

Ernst Buhr
Ernst Buhr, 94, of Torrington, Conn., died May 23, 2001, at Roncalli Health Care Center in Torrington.
He was born Oct. 3, 1906, in Bad Honningen, Germany, to Lorenz and Amalia (Fischer) Buhr. He attended trade school in Germany.
He married
Erna Levy. She died in 1990. He later married
Sylvia Pfeiffer.
He was a foreman for ASARCO Inc. of California for 35 years, retiring in 1970.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ralph of Bremerton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He also was preceded in death two brothers and two sisters, all of Germany.
He will be buried in Germany. Arrangements are under the direction of Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield.
Clarence Davis
Clarence Horace Davis III, 54, of Port Orchard died May 26, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Bremerton to Clarence and Ruth (Thomas) Davis Jr.
He was a truck driver for Black Ball Freight.
He enjoyed maintaining his home and Harper Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Paul of Port Orchard; four sisters, Joy Jensen and Jo Ann Repine, both of Bremerton, Sharon Adams of Salem, Ore., and Jan Horn of Bolivia, South America.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Navy Yard City Bible Church. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Buenta Butler
Buenta Lorraine Butler, 79, of Bremerton died May 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Fall River, Kan., to Forest and Theresa (Morris) Ambler. She graduated in 1938 from Fall River High School and in 1942 from Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, Kan.
She married
Marvin Butler on Sept. 6, 1945, in Wichita.
Mrs. Butler was a nurse at Harrison Hospital for many years, retiring in 1976.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and needlework. She was a member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Shelton and Russell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Wayne Ambler of Fredonia, Kan.; two sisters, Wilma Becker of Eureka, Kan., and Pat Barrett of Prunedale, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church. Private graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Walter Mason
Walter Wayne Mason, 77, of Bremerton died of heart failure May 26, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 22, 1923, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Burris and Grace (Beeman) Mason.
Mr. Mason served in the Army during World War II as a technician fourth grade radio operator. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
He and his wife, Ardyth, were married
July 3, 1946, in Seattle. They were later divorced.
Mr. Mason was a leading man chipper/caulker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1974 after 29 years.
He enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar and fiddle.
Survivors include his former wife; two sons, Michael of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Paul of Bremerton; a daughter, Juli Walters of Brownsville; a brother, Gene of Bremerton; four sisters, Audrey Bailey of Utica, N.Y., Bonnie Mason of Seattle and Joyce Skinner and June Clark, both of Bremerton; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred of Tigard, Ore., and a sister, Marjorie Kloster of Bremerton.
At his request, there will be no service. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Granny Hartley
Edith "Granny" Hartley, 96, of Port Orchard died of natural causes May 27, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born June 17, 1904, in Stevenson, Ala., to Eugene and Maudie (Overholt) Barton.
She married
William L. Hartley on May 23, 1923, in Denver. He preceded her in death in 1955.
Mrs. Hartley was a homemaker. She was a member of the Assemblies of God.
Survivors include a son, William of Port Orchard; a daughter, Velda Manning of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a sister, Agnes Mincer of Denver; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Ricky Nelson
Former Kitsap County resident Ricky Vivian Nelson, 66, of Sequim died of cancer May 23, 2001, at her home.
She was born April 15, 1935, on Bainbridge Island to Joseph and Maude Halva.
She married
Robert L. Nelson on June 30, 1968, in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mike of Port Orchard; a daughter, Teresa of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Halva of Port Angeles.
No service is planned.

John Ley
Former Silverdale resident John Morse Ley Sr., 79, of Lynnwood died of cancer May 25, 2001, in Seattle.
He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Goldbar to Mr. and Mrs. Alphonsus Ley. He graduated in 1939 from South Kitsap High School and in 1949 from cabinet making trade school in McVey Town, Pa.
He married
Bernice J. (Schaeffer) Soderquist on May 8, 1973.
Mr. Ley was a radioman in the Coast Guard from 1940 to 1945. He later was a carpenter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Ley was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and a Mariners fan.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Jr. of Bremerton and Jerry of Port Angeles; a stepson, Erv Soderquist of Monroe; two stepdaughters, Vie Swapp of Seattle and Karen Soderquist of Monroe; a brother, Robert of Poulsbo; two sisters, Lucille Ley of Poulsbo and Olive Adkins of South Tacoma; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia McBurney.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday also at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Roger Petersen
Roger K. Petersen, 70, of Olalla died May 27, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Salt Lake City to Lawrence and Carol Kelly Petersen.
He grew up in Salt Lake City, where he graduated from East High School in 1949 and from University of Utah in 1955.
He married
Margaret Igo in 1952.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He is survived by his wife; his mother of Pennsylvania; three sons, Lawrence and Alan, both of Port Orchard, and Paul of Naperville, Ill.; one daughter, Kelly Ann Spokas of Corvallis, Mont.; one sister, Janis McCullough of Landenburg, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
