Dick Correll
Orval C. "Dick" Correll, 96, of Bremerton died May 2, 2001, of natural causes in Puyallup.
He was born March 4, 1905, in Saint John, Kan., to Bert and Mabel (Weece) Correll. He attended school in Saint John.
He married
Helen Fales on Oct. 15, 1926. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Correll was a self-employed building contractor for 54 years. He also worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a quartermaster shipfitter for nine years.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of Silverdale United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Connie St. Laurent of Bullhead City, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Marguerite Garinger
Marguerite C. Garinger, 83, of Bremerton died May 1, 2001, of natural causes in Silverdale.
She was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Pittsburg, Kan., to William and Elizabeth Montee.
She married
John "Jack" Garinger on Jan. 8, 1938, in Joliet, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Garinger was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Philathea Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, both in Bremerton.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Prigger of Bremerton, Sharon Faber of Lewisville, Texas, and Linda Berman of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Helen Satterlee of Troutdale, Ore., and Elizabeth Bromenshenk of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, also at Miller-Woodlawn.

Douglas Simmons Sr.
Douglas W. Simmons Sr., 74, of Port Orchard died of heart failure May 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in North English, Iowa, to William and Frances (Blocher) Simmons. He graduated from South Kitsap High School.
Mr. Simmons served in the Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of petty officer first class.
He later was a defense property disposal specialist with the United States government and a life insurance salesman with Met Life. He retired in 1984.
He married
Violet Weisert on Dec. 1, 1999, in Bull Head City, Ariz.
Mr. Simmons enjoyed photography. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas Jr. of Port Orchard; two daughters, Brenda Hoisington and Pam Hall, both of Port Orchard; two brothers, Jim of Port Orchard and Carroll of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Potter of Silverdale; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty (Smith) Simmons in 1993; and a brother, Curtis.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard, with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Evelyn Searing
Evelyn Y. Searing, 79, of Bainbridge Island died of pulmonary hypertension May 1, 2001, at her home.
She was born July 29, 1921, in Union City, Tenn., to Maurice and Pattie Youree. She graduated in 1939 from high school in Union City and in 1941 from Drewry Business College in Union City.
She married
Richard Searing on Dec. 1, 1945, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Mrs. Searing was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David of Mountlake Terrace and Dennis of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Lucille Wright of Dallas and Mary Ellen Clark of Memphis; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark in 1977.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island.

Jack Fry
John "Jack" R. Fry, 87, of Bremerton died of natural causes May 3, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 1, 1913, in Ogden, Utah, to John and Myrtle (Ramsden) Fry. He graduated in 1931 from Thatcher High School in Thatcher, Idaho.
He married
Bernice Buckner on Sept. 3, 1937, in Bremerton.
Mr. Fry was a leading man at both Lent's Sheet Metal Works and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1965.
He was a gunsmith and a benchrest shooting competitor. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, John of Alpine, Utah, Darryl of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Kenneth of Eagle, Idaho; two daughters, Judith Long of Salt Lake City and Jeanine Ricketts of Temecula, Calif.; five brothers, Glen of Salt Lake City, Grant of St. George, Utah, and Alan, Don and Reed, all of Bremerton; two sisters, Ruth Gulbranson of Bountiful, Utah, and Carol Baker of Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Dewey, and a brother, Walter.
Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2225 Perry Ave. in Bremerton. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Rheta Huffsmith
Former Bremerton resident Rheta D. Huffsmith, 83, of Seattle died of natural causes April 27, 2001, at Foss Nursing Home in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Bremerton to George and Netta Dane.
She was a secretary in the Seattle public school system before retiring.
Survivors include two sons, Steven of Seattle and James of Fairfield, Iowa; a daughter, Kathryn Arnberg of University Place; two sisters, Thelma Wills of Bremerton and Marjorie Barber of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle.

James Klinger
Former Port Orchard resident James Leslie Klinger, 44, of Kent died of natural causes April 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1957, in Long Beach, Calif., to Harry and Mary (Klasges) Klinger. He graduated in 1975 from Loara High School in Anaheim, Calif., and in 1979 from the University of California.
Mr. Klinger was an air crew electronic warfare systems craftsman in the Air Force from 1977 to 1994, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He received the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Mr. Klinger enjoyed fencing and flying. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his mother of Port Orchard; two brothers, Peter and Richard, both of Port Orchard; and a sister, Doris Troxel of Ontario, Calif.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, with interment at 12:30 p.m. in the Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Lefty Davison
Donald Pershing "Lefty" Davison, 82, of Poulsbo died April 27, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born June 5, 1918, in Evans City, Pa., to William and Iona (Croft) Davison. He was a 1938 graduate of Evans City High School.
He married
Mary Estella Dunkle on March 2, 1940, in Mars, Pa.
Mr. Davison was a steel worker with Armco Steel in Butler, Pa., for more than 30 years, retiring in the 1970s.
He was a member of Poulsbo Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William and Ronald, both of Poulsbo; a daughter, Judy Peffer of New Castle, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Church of the Nazarene.
Lois Beckett
Lois Marie Beckett, 80, of Bremerton died of cancer May 1, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Opheim, Mont., to Guy and Ruth (Anderson) Burroughs. She graduated in 1937 from Opheim High School.
She married
William Beckett on Oct. 19, 1940, in Opheim. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Beckett was a member of the Kitsap Mycological Society and Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Guy of Bremerton and Wayne of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Jean Miller of Wilsonville, Ore.; two sisters, Florence Taylor and Ruth Bright, both of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Burroughs in 1976; and a daughter, Cindy Beckett this year.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

June Marvick Skogseth
Former Bremerton resident June Claudine Fox Marvick Skogseth, 84, of Redmond died of cancer April 4, 2001, at Evergreen Hospice Center in Redmond.
She was born June 22, 1916, in Seattle to Charles "Charlie" and Bernice (Watrus) Fox. She was a Bremerton High School graduate.
She was a manufacturer's representative with Danskin for 20 years, retiring in the late 1980s.
She was a member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club and the Mill Creek Golf and Country Club.
She is survived by a son, Michael Marvick of Redmond; two daughters, Patricia Holtan of Vancouver, Wash., and Susan Haggbloom of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Marvick; her second husband, Donald Skogseth; a daughter, Judith Marvick; and two brothers, Bill and Charles "Bud" Fox.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Betty Olson
Betty Joan Olson, 69, of Bremerton died April 29, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1931, in Monroe to Carl and Mildred (Hand) Chaffee. She attended South Kitsap High School and Olympic College.
She married
Raymond Olson. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Olson was a secretary for several medical offices in Bremerton as well as Naval Submarine Base Bangor and the Naval Undersea Warfare Training Center Keyport. She was retired.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas of Bremerton and Dennis of Seattle; a daughter, Susan of Bremerton; a sister, Helen Timm of Union; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from
8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment
will be at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton.
