Johanna Eylders
Johanna Eylders, 79, of Bremerton died following a long illness April 22, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born July 3, 1921, in Amsterdam, Holland, to Willem and Gerritje (Van Aalderen) Van Bekkum. She graduated from high school in Amsterdam.
She was a waitress and homemaker.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Willy of Chester, Calif., and Jon of Tacoma; a daughter, Lottie Buhr of Bremerton; a sister, Gerri Corver of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

James Eikum
James C. Eikum, 82, died April 27, 2001, at his Poulsbo residence.
He was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Poulsbo to Jacob and Kristianna (Fosse) Eikum. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1937, and from Metropolitan Business College in Seattle in 1939.
He married
Florence Smallbeck on Dec. 29, 1943, in Poulsbo.
He served in the Army from 1944 to 1947. He served as a Poulsbo city councilman from 1955 to 1962. He then worked on maintenance for the Washington State Ferries for 26 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed camping and fishing and was a member of Furst Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pamela Saenz of Marblemount and Paula Fryar of Port Orchard; a brother, Alf of Enumclaw; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A private service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary The Stone Chapel.

William Bean
William Joseph Bean, 77, of Bremerton died April 28, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
He was born March 15, 1924, in Price, Utah, to Benjamin and Carrie (Evans) Bean. He graduated from Carbon High School in Price in 1942, and from Carbon College in Price in 1958. He attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., earning his bachelor's degree in 1966, and continued his education in optometry graduating in 1967.
He married
Enid Waterman on Feb. 25, 1944, in Salt Lake City. She preceded him in death in November 2000.
He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949.
Mr. Bean was an optometrist for 32 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed collecting model trains and was a member of the Bremerton Kiwanis. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Silverdale.
Survivors include four sons, William of Forest Grove, Phillip of Bremerton, David of Poulsbo and Douglas of Port Orchard; a daughter, Jeanette Warner of Lawson, Mo.; a brother, Delbert of Sandy, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Arnold; and three sisters, Ruth, Ida and Melba.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service will be at noon Thursday at Sunset Lane cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Tom West
Former Bremerton resident Thomas "Tom" F. West, 57, died of cancer April 15, 2001, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
He was born June 30, 1943, in Bremerton to Norris and Jessie (Clough) West. He attended West Bremerton High School.
He served in the Navy from 1968 to 1969. He served on USS Arlington, which participated in the recovery of the crew of the Apollo 10 mission.
He married
Myrtle Rhodes on May 13, 1973, in Seattle.
He worked for the General Services Administration in Seattle for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and participating in church activities.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Seabeck; and three brothers, Larry of Seabeck, Lewis of Shoreline and Allan of Everett. He was preceded in death by an infant sister; and his father, Norris.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Inurnment will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle.
Ada Osborne
Ada Mozelle Osborne, 86, of Bremerton died April 29, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 31, 1914, in Joelton, Tenn., to John and Ethel (Sellars) Miller. She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis in 1932, and from Foothill Junior College in Los Altos, Calif., in 1942.
She married
Amos Osborne in June 1940. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was an accountant for A&P Grocery for 10 years and worked for the Army Finance Center for 12 years, retiring in 1977.
She enjoyed corresponding with family and friends. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Silverdale.
Survivors include three sons, Alfred of Salt Lake City, Ray of Mishiwaka, Ind., and Dan of Bremerton; a brother, Robert Miller of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Wiles; and a brother, Ray Miller.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Washington Park in Indianapolis.

Janice Moon
Janice M. Moon, 90, of Bremerton died of pneumonia April 20, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 2, 1911, in Oklahoma City to Ernest and Sarah (Johnson) Parkins.
She married
Richard Moon on July 2, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Moon was a homemaker.
She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family.
She was a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, G.L. of Issaquah; two daughters, Marilyn Moon of Elizabeth Bay, Australia, and Christie Moon Crother of Hemet, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. May 21 at San Jacinto Valley cemetery in California. Arrangements are under the direction of American Memorial.
Ruth Allison
Former Bremerton and Silverdale resident Ruth Allison, 85, of Shakopee, Minn., died of natural causes April 21, 2001, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
She was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Brownton, Minn., to Henry and Nancy (Thomson) Mergen. She graduated in 1933 from Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Minn.
She married
Marion Allison on Nov. 25, 1937, in Hutchinson.
Mrs. Allison was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael of Bremerton and Richard of Shakopee; a brother, James; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Willis.
A funeral service was held Wednesday at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, with interment at Oakland cemetery in Hutchinson.
Debra Veley
Infant Debra Lynn Veley, of Bremerton died April 23, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Feb 21, 2001, at Harrison Silverdale to Nick and Jean (Hansen) Veley.
Survivors include her parents; a brother, Glen; a sister, Jamie; and a grandmother, Myrtle Lock of Corvallis, Ore. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Ann Veley.
No service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory.
Woodrow Wiegand
Woodrow Wilson Wiegand, 82, of Bremerton died April 16, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Norfolk, Neb., to Henry and Mary Kate (Gormley). He attended high school in Nebraska, graduating in 1937.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He married
Shirley Pearmain in December 1944 in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1979.
He worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Public Works Department for 35 years, retiring in 1974.
He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Elks Club.
He was awas preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald in 1958 and Donald, this year.
A private graveside service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Maurice Salanga
Maurice C. Salanga Sr., 87, of Bainbridge Island died April 26, 2001, on Bainbridge Island.
He was born Nov. 8, 1913, in the Philippines to Marcelo and Anastacia (Calica) Salanga.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a cook. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Asia-Pacific Campaign Ribbon.
Mr. Salanga was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years, retiring in 1974.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a member of the Filipino-American Community.
He was a member of St. Cecila Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Felomina (Flores) Salanga; four sons, Maurice Salanga Jr. of Bainbridge Island, George of Seattle, Robert of Tacoma and Mark of Bainbridge Island; a stepson, Alex Madayag of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Tina Coulson of Federal Way; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. April 30 at Kass Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. May 1 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. May 2, also at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Seabold cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.

Kay Taber Carpenter
Kay Taber Carpenter, 90, of Port Orchard died April 24, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1910, in Holland.
Survivors include two sons, Frank and Tom Taber of Port Orchard; a daughter, Cornelia Woody of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Maria Boyces, of Redding, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
