Elizabeth Bevis
Elizabeth Catherine Bevis, 95, of Bremerton died April 26, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born Oct. 21, 1905, in Towner, N.D., to Leonard and Mary (Vetch) Bullock.
Survivors include five sons, Joe Hagel of Federal Way, Jack Hagel of Bend, Ore., Kenneth Hagel of Bremerton, and Robert Bevis and Wesley Bevis, both of Poulsbo; three daughters, Marie Ronkar, Geraldine Finch and Kathryn Bevis Flores, all of Bremerton; a sister, Carolyn of Seattle; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. April 30 at Holy Trinity Church. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Jean Martin
Jean L. Martin, 79, of Port Orchard died April 25, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ulysses and Vera (Whittaker) Shirey.
She married
James Martin. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Martin was a nurse's aide for many years at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Vera Hill and Victoria Grogan, both of Port Orchard; two sons, Bill Martin of Belfair and Gordon Hill of Hillsboro, Ore.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Donald Helt
Donald B. Helt, 71, of Bremerton died following a lengthy illness April 24, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born May 15, 1929, in Kansas City, Kan., to Jonathan and Carrie (Bosustow) Helt.
Mr. Helt was a postal clerk and chief petty officer in the Navy from 1947 to 1966. He received the China Service Medal and the World War II Navy Occupation Service Medal.
He married
Betty Leeper on Feb. 24, 1952, in Oakland, Calif.
Mr. Helt worked for the Washington Department of Motor Vehicles for two years. He was retired.
He enjoyed golf and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary of Gig Harbor; two daughters, Janis Driscoll of Poulsbo and Sandy Prebeck of Arlington, Va.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard chapel. A private family graveside service will be at Forest Lawn cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Donald Shaw
Donald V. Shaw, 71, of Port Orchard died April 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Portland, Ore., to Alfred and Mary (Parkin) Shaw.
Mr. Shaw served in the Army from 1946 to 1970. He later served in the Army Reserves and
was on active duty during the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rank of first sergeant.
He worked in the transportation department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the early 1970s, and later was a bus driver with the South Kitsap School District. He retired in 1993.
Mr. Shaw was a volunteer fireman and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include two sons, David of Port Orchard and Mark of Oak Ridge, Ore.; a daughter, Cathy Tatham of Port Orchard; a stepson, Kim Matthews of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Deni Lee of Kingston; a brother, Richard of Washougal; three sisters, Erma Hicks of Port Orchard, Jo Cameron of Tacoma and Trudi Azzie of Patterson, N.J.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ladema "Niki" Shaw in 1992; his wife, Irene Morrison, in 1999; a grandson, Dustin; and a brother, Duke Thrailkill.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard, with arrangements under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Edith Olson
Edith O. Olson, 84, of Poulsbo died April 24, 2001, in Poulsbo.
She was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Poulsbo, to Anton and Bertha (Volden) Gunderson. She was a 1933 graduate of North Kitsap High School.
She married
George Olson on Nov. 3, 1934, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Olson was a beautician for 38 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include a son, George Jr. of Port Hadlock; a daughter, Sandra Walden of Poulsbo; a sister, Agnus Espelund of Tacoma; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment
will take place at Poulsbo City cemetery.
Richard Joy
Richard Albert Joy, 63, of Bremerton died April 21, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born July 3, 1937, in San Francisco to Paul and Dorothy (Gates) Joy.
Mr. Joy served in the Army in 1953.
He married
Malene "Grace" Kelley in November 1964 in San Francisco. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Joy was a wharf builder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 12 years, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Michael of Port Orchard and Richard of Bremerton; two daughters, Monica Manning of Port Orchard and Deana Michael of Silverdale; and five grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Anchor of Hope Christian Reformed Church, 10625 Ridgetop Blvd., in Silverdale.

Florence Heyne
Florence D. Heyne, 83, of Port Orchard died April 20, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born June 16, 1917, in Seattle to George and Virginia Stearns.
She married
Robert Heyne in Bremerton in 1945. He preceded her in death last year.
Mrs. Heyne enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Leonard of Port Orchard; two daughters, Diane Winniford of Port Orchard and Lavina Hillman of Redmond; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held. Interment
will be at Haven of Rest cemetery in Gig Harbor, with arrangements under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Elsa Chapman
Elsa J. Chapman, 84, of Poulsbo died April 22, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Bronx, N.Y., to Robert and Elsa (Nissen) Jaeger. She graduated in 1934 from Washington Irving High School in Manhattan, N.Y., and attended Texas State College For Women in Denton, Texas.
She served in the Army from 1941 to 1943, achieving the rank of private first class.
She married
Walter Chapman on April 28, 1956, in Glen Falls, N.Y. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Mrs. Chapman worked in the accounting department of Rockwell International for 20 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Friends of the Poulsbo Library and Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include a son, Lyle Horne Jr. of Poulsbo; and a sister, Elaine Greenleaf of Booth Bay Harbor, Me. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Daphne Beckwith, and three brothers, Melton, Leighton and Randolph Jaeger.
Cremation is under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Hazel Kemp
Former Bremerton resident Hazel J. Kemp, 83, of Dickinson, N.D., died of cancer April 25, 2001, in Dickinson.
She was born March 13, 1918, in Arnold, Mich., to August and Annie (Viau) Polcen.
She married
Hamilton Kemp in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Kemp enjoyed oil painting. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Hildre of Dickinson; a sister, Caroline Anderson of Republic, Kan.; and two grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, four sisters and an infant brother.
A funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home in Dickinson, with interment at St. Patrick's cemetery, also in Dickinson.
Lois Prather
Lois Idella Prather, 89, of Port Orchard died April 23, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born May 21, 1911, in Tracyton to Percy and Lalie Tucker. She attended South Kitsap High School.
She married
Arden E. Prather on Aug. 6, 1930, in Yakima.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, and cooking. She was a member of Women of Columbia and the Church of Christ in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; a son, David of Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Suzanne Byars of Lubbock; a sister, Alice Bowman of Bremerton; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford A. in 1991.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ, 2585 Carr Lane SE in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Mark Harris
Mark Andrew Harris, 20, of Bremerton died of natural causes April 20, 2001, in Seattle.
He was born April 12, 1981, in Bremerton to William and Janet (Bishop) Harris. He graduated in 2000 from Olympic High School and attended Olympic College.
He enjoyed skateboarding and skiing and was a member of Bremerton Ski Cruisers.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Stephanie Fleck of Bellingham; and grandparents, John and Jean Bishop of Bremerton and Jeanne Harris of Bellingham.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. May 5 at the Bremerton Yacht Club.
