Hazel Landon
Hazel H. Landon, 96, of Port Orchard died April 24, 2001, at Ridgement Terrace.
She was born June 17, 1904, in Seattle to John and Carrie Jamison. She graduated in 1922 from high school in Edmonds.
She married
Thomas W. Landon on Sept. 3, 1922, in Edmonds. He preceded her in death in 1968.
She enjoyed crocheting and was the last surviving member of the Manette Home Economics Club.
Survivors include a son, Robert W. of Belfair; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia DuPont.
At her request, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Richard Lutz
Richard Lee Lutz, 56, of Bremerton died of lung cancer April 21, 2001, at home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Bremerton to Barney and Hazel (Friddle) Lutz. He attended South Kitsap High School.
He married
Theresa Boyd on July 19, 1980, in El Cajon, Calif.
Mr. Lutz served in the Army. He later worked in the floor covering industry for 20 years, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed fishing and playing darts. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Scott of Port Orchard, Brent of Bremerton and Richard Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, George of Port Orchard, Harry of Babylon, N.Y., and James of Oregon; and one grandchild.
At his request, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Ragna Porterfield
Former Poulsbo resident, Ragna O. Porterfield, 86, of Renton died April 21, 2001, in Renton.
She was born June 4, 1914, in Central Valley (Poulsbo). She attended Central Kitsap High School.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo and the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Hoff of Poulsbo; a daughter Jann Alexander of New Castle; and a sister, Ann Carter of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1967.
At her request, there will be no service. Private interment will be at Island Lake cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Hazel Kemp
Former Bremerton resident Hazel J. Kemp, 83, of Dickinson, N.D., died April 25, 2001, in Dickinson.
She was born March 13, 1918, in Arnold, Mich., to August and Annie (Viau) Polcen.
She married
Hamilton Kemp in 1945. He died in 1992.
She enjoyed oil painting and was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Hildren of Dickinson; a sister, Caroline Anderson of Republic, Kan.; and two grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, four sisters and an infant brother.
A funeral service will be held at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, in Dickinson. Interment
will take place at St. Patrick's cemetery in Dickinson.
Marcus Manning
Former Bainbridge Island resident Marcus Christopher Manning, 23, of Camp Pendleton, Calif., died
April 21, 2001, in California.
He was born July 16, 1977, in Portland, Ore., to John and Terry (Teuscher) Manning. He attended Bainbridge High School.
He worked at the Show Box and at St. Martin de Porres a homeless shelter for men, both in Seattle.
He served in the Marines at Camp Pendleton, achieving the rank of corporal.
Survivors include his mother, Terry Manning of Suquamish; his father, John Manning of Portland; a brother, Alex of Seattle; a half-brother, John of Santa Clarita, Calif.; and a half-sister, Susan Granger of Stockton, Calif.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove, with full military honors to follow.

Thomas Stephens
Thomas Stephens, 73, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure April 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1927, in Tacoma to Herbert and Pearl (Rouse) Stephens. He attended Olympic College.
He married
Marlene Knapp on Aug. 30, 1952, in Port Orchard.
He was a meat cutter for 45 years, retiring in 1991. He worked for Red Apple Market and Safeway.
He enjoyed hunting and participated in destruction derbies for 12 years.
He was a member of Keyport Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pamela Obie of Goose Creek, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Thomas.
No service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Adeline Stouffer
Adeline Stouffer, 84, of Bremerton died April 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Northwood, N.D., to Martin and Nora (Fladager) LaVanger.
She married
Lewis Stouffer on April 6, 1946, in East Grand Forks, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She owned a beauty salon in Aneta, N.D. She later was a hair stylist for Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Lewis Funeral Chapel for more than 40 years.
She was a member of Sons of Norway and the Eagles. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her companion, Comet Haraldson of Bremerton; a son, Mark of Bremerton; a daughter, Noreen Savard of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Norman "Bud" LaVanger.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 4 p.m.
Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2509 Perry Ave., in Bremerton. Entombment will be at Sunrise Terrance Mausoleum, Forest Lawn cemetery.

Dorothy Hentila
Dorothy L. Hentila, 87, of Port Orchard died April 21, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Murrayville, British Columbia, Canada, to James and Gertrude (Raymond) Monahan. She graduated from high school in Bellingham.
She married
Carl Hentila on Sept. 14, 1950, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Mrs. Hentila was a salesperson at Forget-Me-Not Florist in Port Orchard for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed playing the organ and served as organist for her church, Pleasant Valley Church of God in Gorst.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and James Lund, both of Port Orchard; and a grandson.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Church of God, 4211 Feigley Road W., with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Ralph Wasmer
Ralph Edward Wasmer, 64, of Port Orchard died of heart failure April 22, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1936, in Pittsburgh to Edward and Dora (Alcorn) Wasmer. He attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y.
Mr. Wasmer served in the Navy from 1953 to 1973, achieving the rank of chief photographer's mate. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medals.
He married
Hildegard Junker on Nov. 14, 1964, in Alameda, Calif.
Mr. Wasmer was a photojournalist for 48 years, retiring in January.
He was a World War II historian and enjoyed model railroading. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Dora Breidenbach of Glenshaw, Penn.; two daughters, Erika of Bainbridge Island and Ursula of Tacoma; a brother, Philip Breidenbach of Glenshaw; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Rolf.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, with interment at Haven of Rest cemetery in Gig Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Akiko Tefft
Akiko Tefft, 67, of Port Orchard died April 22, 2001, of natural causes in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Osaka, Japan. She was educated in Japan.
She married
Hugh Tefft on Jan. 30, 1976, in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Tefft was an insulator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved animals.
She is survived by a daughter, Akemi of Port Orchard; and a grandchild. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Corky Oshiro, and a sister, Toshiko Hendricks.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Vivien Hurst
Vivien H. Hurst, 86, of Poulsbo died April 20, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born March 29, 1915, in St. Louis, Mo., to Wilhelm and Adele (Williams) Stapenhorst. She graduated in 1932 from Catholic school in St. Louis.
She married
Jack Hurst in Carmel, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Hurst was a secretary for Paramount Studios and for North American Aviation.
She enjoyed horseback riding and fishing. She was a Catholic.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Chambers of Port Ludlow and Caren Koontz of Denver, Colo. She also was preceded in death by three sisters.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
