Ray Gulla
Ray Sterling Gulla, 78, of Central Valley died of diabetes April 8, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1923, in Seattle to Ole and Olga (Stone) Gulla. He graduated in 1941 from Central Kitsap High School.
He married
Marilyn Stokke on June 11, 1949, in Seattle.
He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Gulla worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 30 years, retiring in 1978 as a planner and estimator.
He was a member of the Warren G. Harding Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons in Poulsbo and was active with other masonic orders.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayne of Central Valley; two daughters, Marsha Masters of Central Valley and Nancy Carter of Tracyton; a sister, Shirley Capps of Seabeck; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tracyton United Methodist Church, 5153 Naomi in Tracyton. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Mausoleum at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Laura Smith
Laura Margaret Smith, 91, of Bremerton died April 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 25, 1909, in Bellingham to Fred and Josephine (Strand) Kittredge. She was a 1927 graduate of Bellingham High School.
In 1949, she married
Charles "Smitty" or "Charlie" Smith in Bellingham.
She was the office manager for Prudential Insurance for 20 years in Bellingham and 20 years in Bremerton, retiring in 1967.
Survivors include her husband and a sister, Josephine McDonnell of Bellingham.
At her request, there will be no service.
Elizabeth Thomas
Elizabeth Thomas, 80, of Silverdale died of cancer April 6, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Abilene, Kan., to Ernest and Agnes (Dederick) Ross. She graduated in 1938 from Turlock Union High School in Turlock, Calif.
She was a member of the Sonoma, Calif., Charter 85 Order of Eastern Star. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the hospital auxiliary, while in California.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Silverdale and Richard of Vacaville, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Coleman of Fairfield, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. April 21 in Vacaville. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Alvin Strandskov
Alvin Garland Strandskov, 83, of Port Hadlock died March 31, 2001, in Port Townsend.
He was born Dec. 12, 1917, in Scobey, Mont., to Viggo and Marian (Pedersen) Strandskov. He attended high school in Medicine Lake, Mo.
He married
his wife, Jean, in Port Hadlock.
He enjoyed horses and dancing.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dan of Lincoln, Mont.; four stepsons, Louis, Steven, Jerry and Jonny Chase; a daughter, Sandra Lee Eliason of Bainbridge Island; a stepdaughter, Becky Ann Chase; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Irwin Johnson
Former Kitsap County resident Irwin H. Johnson, 85, of Mercer Island died April 6, 2001, at Swedish Hospital.
He was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Blabon, N.D., to Gilbert and Mabel (Holt) Johnson. He graduated in 1934 from North Kitsap High School and in 1938 from the University of Washington.
He served in the Army, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He married
Dorothy Mitchell on Feb. 17, 1945, in Valdez, Alaska.
He was a controller for Sears Roebuck for 33 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching Husky football.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Tigard, Ore., and Phillip of Enumclaw; a daughter, Linda Johnson McCullough of Lake Oswego, Ore.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held in Tigard, Ore. Local arrangements are under the direction of Greens Bellevue Funeral Home, in Bellevue.

Kory Coulter
Kory Allan Coulter, 24, of Poulsbo died following a motorcycle accident April 7, 2001, in Port Ludlow.
He was born Feb. 17, 1977, in Seattle to Steven and Lori Coulter. He attended North Kitsap High School.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also collected and refurbished automobiles.
Survivors include his parents of Poulsbo; two sisters, Stephanie of Silverdale and Tisha of Poulsbo; and his grandparents, Godan and Florence Meng of Lopez Island.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Kitsap Memorial State Park Log Hall, with inurnment at a memorial garden at the family home. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Carman Keil
Carman Elizabeth Keil, 77, of Bremerton died following a lengthy illness April 8, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 21, 1923, in Belmont, Ohio, to Herbert and Frances Shepler. She graduated in 1941 from Bremerton High School.
She married
Albert Keil on June 11, 1942, in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Keil was retired from a 25-year career in real estate sales.
She enjoyed traveling and was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Karl of Tracyton and Albert Jr. of Greeley, Colo.; a brother, Herbert Shepler of Havre de Grace, Md.; a sister, Anna Katherine Ormsby of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Wallace Sacker
Wallace Sacker, 76, of Port Orchard died of cancer April 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Bremerton to Henry and Martha (Hilfiker) Sacker. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1938.
Mr. Sacker served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 with the signal corps, achieving the rank of technician grade five. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Medal.
He married
Barbara Grundhoffer on July 26, 1947, in Bremerton.
Mr. Sacker was a pipe coverer and insulator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring after 30 years in 1971.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 2669 and the Elks 1181.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Port Orchard; a son, John of Parkersbury, W.Va.; a daughter, Julie Westhoff of Bremerton; a brother, Ray of Tigard, Ore.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Linda Jordan
Linda Lee Jordan, 52, of Bremerton died April 6, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1948, in Bremerton to James and Elizabeth (Kellogg) Streutker. She graduated in 1967 from East High School in Bremerton and in 1994 from Olympic College.
She married
Dennis Michael "Mike" Jordan on Feb. 14, 1969, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Jordan was a teacher for the past 14 years at Sylvan Way Baptist Church Day Care in Bremerton.
She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club, the Lighthouse Association and Sylvan Way Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Douglas with the Coast Guard in Valdez, Alaska; a daughter, Caroline of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, David Streutker of Bremerton and Norman Streutker of Auburn; two sisters, Jamie Streutker of Bremerton and Maxine Simmons of Colville; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Clyde and Hazel Kellogg and Henry and Gertrude Streutker; and a brother, Henry Streutker Jr.
A private family service will be held Friday. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. April 20 at Sylvan Way Baptist Church, with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Gerald Rice
Gerald D. Rice, 67, of Hansville died of heart disease April 6, 2001, in Hansville.
He was born Aug. 22, 1933, to Russell and Myra (Kinney) Rice in Northport. On Oct. 19, 1957, he married
Karen Knutson in Stevenson.
Mr. Rice graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Ore., and attended college for two years in Tokyo, Japan.
He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He then was a service management specialist and administrative officer for 25 years at Naval Submarine Base Bangor, retiring in 1982. He then was an operations manager at McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Rice enjoyed carpentry and researching family history.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bryon of Poulsbo and Michael of Bellevue; and two brothers, Clifford of Kennewick and Farley of California.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Driftwood Key Club in Hansville. Services are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
