Dorothy Steiner
Dorothy Gladys Lofberg Steiner, 76, of Port Orchard died April 7, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Bloomer Township, Minn., to Ernest and Oline (Haugen) Lofberg. She graduated from Chaffey College in Upland, Calif., and from San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif. She also studied at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.
Mrs. Steiner was a pioneer in modern rehabilitation nursing and retired from Harrison Hospital.
She was a member of the National Rehabilitation Association, the Port Orchard Yacht Club and Key Peninsula Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, A. Joseph Steiner of Port Orchard; a son, David Sharkey of Issaquah; three stepsons, Joseph Steiner of Port Orchard, John Sharkey of Eugene, Ore., and Adam Steiner of Glen Allen, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Key Peninsula Church. Interment
will be at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor.

Dolores Quinn
Dolores Quinn, 77, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure April 5, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Yankton, S.D., to Robert and Florence Flanagan. She graduated in 1942 from Lake Andes High School in Lake Andes, S.D.
She married
Edward Quinn Jr. on June 15, 1946, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1981.
A homemaker, Mrs. Quinn was a teacher's aide with the Bremerton School District for 20 years, retiring in 1990.
She enjoyed playing bingo and was a fan of the Seattle Mariners. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, Edward III of Bremerton; a daughter, Denise Rahman of Silverdale; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Flanagan.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road in Bremerton.

Betty Larson
Elizabeth "Betty" Larson, 55, of Port Orchard died of natural causes at home April 5, 2001.
She was born April 5, 1946, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Samuel and Elizabeth (Stewart) Hastings. She received her education in Scotland.
She married
Hank A. Larson in September 1980 in Glasgow.
She was a retail sales manager.
Mrs. Larson enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mark Ferguson and Stewart Ferguson, both of Scotland, and Kyle Larson of Port Orchard; a daughter, Fawn Larson of Port Orchard; two brothers, Sam and John Hastings, both of Scotland; two sisters, Sarah Deans and Ann Marie Hastings, both of Scotland; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Jean Walls
Jean Walls, 83, of Port Orchard died April 6, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Seattle to Albert Lexes Moore and Jennie (Holman) Moore. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1936 and the University of Washington in 1939.
She married
Fred E. Walls on April 15, 1939, in Bethel.
She was a registered nurse.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club Commodears and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Fred L. of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Jackie (Walls) Thonn of Richland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Laurance Moore; and a sister, Carrie Hoak.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 2308 Sidney Ave., in Port Orchard.

Kenneth Peterson
Kenneth Norman Peterson, 71, of Bremerton died of natural causes April 2, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Eugene, Ore. He graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle in 1948.
He married
Phyllis Jane Miller on April 18, 1951, in Kansas City, Kan. She preceded him in death in 1992.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 achieving the rank of corporal.
Mr. Peterson worked in the welding shop at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 34 years, retiring in 1985.
He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America and the Elks Club.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth M. of Edmonds; a daughter, Terry of Seattle; two brothers, Orville of Seattle and Lyle of Aberdeen; two sisters, Lorraine Fargan and Shirley Jones, both of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren.

Sandy Smith
Alexander "Sandy" Evans Smith, 59, of Poulsbo died April 5, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1941, in Seattle to Alexander and Irene (Evans) Smith. He was a 1959 graduate of Sealth High School in Seattle.
He married
Carolyn Siemering on Feb. 26, 1966, in Seattle.
He was a police officer for the Kent Police Department and was the chief criminal deputy for Mason County Sheriff's Department until retiring in 1988.
He enjoyed travel and cooking.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Irene of Bremerton; two sons, Dale and Kim Duke, both of Kent; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dale and Cheryl Dukes, 4411 Hampton Way, in Kent. Cremation in under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Anne-Kelledy Hilstad
Anne-Kelledy Hilstad, 75, of Gig Harbor died April 2, 2001, in Gig Harbor.
She was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Washington, D.C., to Capt. Russell and Alberta (Gilbert) Hitchcock. She attended Stephens College.
She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and for the government in Hawaii.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Marcy of Fox Island and Linda Smith of Spokane.
No service is planned.

Tex Marks
Former North Mason resident Stuart H. "Tex" Marks, 64, of Eugene, Ore., died April 8, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Havre, Mont., to Charles and Helen (Kapernick) Marks. He graduated from Brownsville High School in Texas in 1954 and from Pan American College in Edinburg, Texas, in 1958.
He married
Janice Reischman on Nov. 12, 1960, in Bremerton.
He was a journeyman sheetmetal worker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and a production controller at PERA-CV, retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed rebuilding classic cars and hunting. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Eugene.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Eugene; three sons, Jim of Eugene, Jeff of Pasco and Joe of Belfair; two daughters, Janelle Marks of Columbia, Md., and Jackie Marks of Eugene; and 12 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Helen Huff
Former Kitsap County resident, Helen E. Huff, 84, died April 7, 2001, at Manor Care of Gig Harbor.
She was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Big Timber, Mont., to Adolph and Molly (Fagernefs) Nuestad.
Her greatest joy was raising her children.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Huff of Los Angeles and Beverly Hayfield of Gig Harbor; a sister, Alice Scherner of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
No service is planned.
Ralph Miller
Ralph Fredrick Miller, 54, of Port Orchard, died April 3, 2001, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born July 21, 1946, in Minden, La., to Fredrick and Ruth (Kapland) Miller.
He graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, La., in 1965.
He also attended Olympic College in Bremerton.
Mr. Miller retired in 1991 after 28 years in the Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander. He later worked for Aero Controls Co. in Auburn.
He was an automobile enthusiast.
Survivors include mother Ruth Miller of Athens, La.; sons Paul of
El Centro, Calif., and Fred of Port Orchard; brother Jack of Athens, La.; sisters Sheila Snyder of Illinois and Jeanett Brown of Vivian, La.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Rill Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Zion cemetery in Minden, La.

George Bartleson
George R. Bartleson, 84, of Seabeck, died April 4, 2001, at Naval Hospital.
He was born Aug. 12, 1916, in St. Paul, Minn., to Rasmus and Rose Ann Kathryn (Brown) Bartleson.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1935.
On Nov. 14, 1941, he married
Agnes Audrey Skimming in South Mills, N.C.
Mr. Bartleson joined the Navy in 1936 and retired in 1956 as a chief engineman. He was an engineer for the Carnation Co. from 1956 until his retirement in 1970.
He was an avid boater, commodore of the Edmonds Yacht Club in 1962, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and commander of the Coast Guard Flotilla of Edmonds.
He was a member of Lone Rock Chapel and Tracytom Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, George Robert of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, William; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Chapel in Seattle.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Seattle.
