Florence Rock
Florence Hoey Rock, 89, of Bainbridge Island died Nov. 15, 1998, at Messenger House.
She was born Oct. 1, 1909, in Scotland to James and Emily (Hoey) Kirk. She was raised in Canada.
Mrs. Rock was a homemaker.
Survivors include a niece, Von Stutsman of Bainbridge Island; and two grandnephews, Mark Stutsman of Bainbridge Island and Michael Stutsman of Bellevue.

Orie Smalley
Orie Otis Smalley, 92, of Port Orchard died Nov. 14, 1998, at his home of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 4, 1906, to Arther and Ruby Smalley. He was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas.
Mr. Smalley served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as an airplane crew chief, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as trail foreman for the Olympic National Park Services, blazing most of the trails for the park. He retired in 1969.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Rill Chapel.

Virginia Gormley
Virginia Elizabeth Gormley, 83, of Bremerton died Nov. 12, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Denair, Calif., to Tilman and Bertie (Jenkins) Fowler. She was raised in California.
On Oct. 29, 1932, she married
Michael Gormley in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Mrs. Gormley worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Central Files for 22 years until her retirement. She later worked for 10 years for chiropractor Leander Eckard.
Survivors include four daughters, Eileen of Shelton, Sheila of Idaho, Patricia Barrett of Silverdale and Kathleen Noll of Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Bruce Fowler of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Mark Fowler of Ashland, Ore.; a sister, Carlie Bentley of Los Altos, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Ivar Westerback
Ivar Stanley Westerback, 74, of Bremerton died Nov. 15, 1998, in his sleep.
He was born May 8, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He received a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
On May 14, 1955, he married
Mary Elizabeth Hooper in Island Park, N.Y.
Mr. Westerback served in the Army with the Blue Devil 88th Infantry Division. He later worked as an engineer in the electronics industry.
He was a member of the F:67 Camera Club, the West Side Printmakers of Poulsbo, the Printmakers Critique of Seattle and the Swedish Finn Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane of New York City, and May of Silverdale; and three grandchildren, Sarah Jane and Rachael Beth Cuttita-Westerback, both of New York City, and Stanley Westerback of Silverdale.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 18 at the Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nels Nelson Road.

Brett Kinsey Jr.
Brett Roy Kinsey Jr. died at birth Nov. 7, 1998.
He was born to Christina D. Campbell and Brett R. Kinsey Sr. in Bremerton.
Survivors include his parents; and his grandparents, Andrea Goodwin, Steven Campbell, Bruce Kinsey and Lora Kinsey, all of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Neighborhood Christian Center, Fifth Street and Warren Avenue.

Dawn Hawkins
Dawn Kristen Baltimore Hawkins, 31, of Port Orchard died Nov. 7, 1998, at her home.
She was born April 18, 1967, in Scottsdale, Ariz., to Richard and Sherry (Jaenecke) Baltimore. She was raised in Phoenix, graduating from Arcadia High School in 1985. She attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and the University of Arizona in Tempe.
She was an office manager for a Silverdale dentist.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; her parents; a brother, Mark of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Wendy of Phoenix, Ariz., and Shayne of Tempe, Ariz.; and her paternal grandfather, Dale of Dana Point, Calif.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 12 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Benjamin Nay
Longtime Bremerton resident Benjamin F. Nay Jr., 83, died Nov. 10, 1998.
Mr. Nay served in the Air Force. He saw extensive action in Europe during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Survivors include his companion, Connie Wareham; a son, Benjamin F. Nay III of Shelbyville, Ky.; a sister, Dorothy Nay Carter of Louisville, Ky.; a grandchild, Chris Nay Klepek; and two great-grandchildren.
At Mr. Nay's request, there will be no service.

Damon Nuckols
Damon B. Nuckols, 87, of Silverdale died Nov. 10, 1998.
He was born May 4, 1911, in Eaton, Ind., to Frank and Georgia (Dickenson) Nuckols. He graduated from high school in Conde, S.D., in 1930. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1934.
In 1936, he married
Ruth Schlener in Conde, S.D.
Mr. Nuckols served with the Signal Corps from 1935 to 1971, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked as an engineer for Northwestern Bell for 37 years until his retirement in 1975.
He belonged to various amateur radio controller clubs.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, D. Bryce of Montana, D. Bert of Silverdale and John Paul of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a daughter, Bonnie Gustafson of Bothell; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 16 with a funeral service immediately following, both at Silverdale Baptist Church. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery.

Harriet Root
Harriet Ann Root, 88, of Port Orchard died Nov. 8, 1998, in Port Orchard.
She was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Vista Grande, Calif., to Andrew and Anna F. (Carstair) MacKenzie. She was raised in California, moving to Port Orchard at the age of 18.
On Feb. 8, 1936, she married
Russell S. Root in Seattle.
Mrs. Root was a cook at Port Orchard restaurants.
She attended Belfair Community Baptist Church, Nazarene Church of Port Orchard and the Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include one stepson, Laver Root of Monroe; three daughters, Harriet Norwood of Port Orchard, Liz Corliss-Clark of Belfair, and Linda Price of Seattle; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, her granddaughter, Jeanne Norwood, and her brother, Andrew McKenzie.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 13 at Rill Chapel with a graveside service following at 3 p.m. at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Richard Warwick
Richard Neville Warwick, 54, of Lakebay died Nov. 9, 1998, of colon cancer.
He was born July 17, 1944, in Portland, Ore., to Edna Virginia (McKaig) Gregory. He was raised in Poulsbo, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1962. He also attended several community colleges over the years.
Mr. Warwick served in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Sallie Shawl of Lakebay; his mother; two sons, Cameron of Port Orchard and Doug Harding of Ketchikan, Alaska; a daughter, Camille of Port Orchard; his sister, Dolores Warwick Breuer of Milwaukee, Wis.; a brother, John of Wilkeson; and four grandchildren, Brandon and Zachery Foster, both of McCleary, Dylan Huff of Bremerton and Torah Harding of Ketchikan.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at Camp Coleman on the Key Peninsula. Follow signs to Joemma Beach State Park.
