Joyce Newcomer
Joyce E. Newcomer, 71, of Bremerton died of natural causes March 18, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Paul and Irene (Mennie) Berkey. She graduated from high school in Canada.
She married
Paul K. Newcomer on March 31, 1962, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1998.
She worked in the banking industry prior to raising her family.
She enjoyed traveling and was a member of West Side Improvement Club and United Church of Canada.
Survivors include a son, John of Seattle; a daughter, Joan Jordan of Bremerton; three brothers, Ervin Berkey of Abbottsford, B.C., Larry Berkey of Kamloops, B.C., and Bill Berkey of Black Creek, B.C.; two sisters, Evelyn Paterson of Surrey, B.C., and Shirley Browne of Tappen, B.C.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Annie Skjonsberg
Former Bremerton resident Annie Skjonsberg, 98, of San Diego died March 5, 2001, in San Diego.
She was born Oct. 20, 1902, in Grenville, S.D., to Soren and Louise (Christianson) Bendickson. She attended high school in South Dakota.
She married
Ole Skjonsberg in South Dakota on Oct. 31, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1957.
Mrs. Skjonsberg enjoyed gardening and needlework. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, Lester of Auburn; a daughter, Gladys Eide of San Diego; seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, a brother and five sisters.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Francisco Camacho
Former Kitsap County resident Francisco Guerrero Camacho, 73, of Auburn died
March 23, 2001, at Auburn Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 22, 1928, in Sumay, Guam, to Manuel and Dolores (Guerrero) Camacho.
He married
Concepcion Mendiola on May 15, 1948.
He worked in Shop 56 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 23 years, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. He was a Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors include his wife, Concepcion; three sons, Frank of Kent, Philip of Seattle and Peter of Renton; eight daughters, Judy of Bremerton, Eloise of Poulsbo, Eleanor of Seabeck, Laurie of Graham, Renee and Heidi Jo, both of Shelton, Trinidad of Sumner and Jeanieve of Auburn; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Helen, in 1994.
A gathering for friends and family will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the WestCoast Silverdale Hotel.
Lauren Baker
Lauren Angel Faith Baker was stillborn March 25, 2001, at Harrison Hospital in Silverdale.
She is survived by her parents, Scott and Lucy (Lino) Baker of Poulsbo; a brother, Julian; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Maura Lino of Turlock, Calif.; paternal grandparents, Lil Baker of Poulsbo and Dave Baker of Carmel Valley, Calif.; maternal great-grandparents, Maria Lino of Turlock, Calif., and Oscar Knudson of Poulsbo.
Private family services will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Judy (Davis) Booker
Former Southworth resident Judy Ann (Davis) Booker, 58, of Seattle died of cancer March 12, 2001, at Swedish Hospital in Ballard.
She was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Bremerton to V. Dale and Florence (McCall) Davis. She graduated in 1961 from South Kitsap High School and attended Olympic College and Western Washington University.
She married
William K. Booker on Feb. 19, 1966, in Port Orchard.
She was a homemaker.
She attended Wedgewood Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kristen Lundquist and Carrie Booker, both of Seattle; a twin sister, Jean of Manchester; and one grandson.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. April 5 at Wedgewood Presbyterian Church, 8008 35th Ave. NE, Seattle.

John Young
John R. Young, 66, of Bremerton died March 26, 2001, at home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Peach Orchard, Ark., to Lester and Dorothy (Gates) Young. He graduated from Manila High School in Tillamook, Ore.
He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1976, achieving the rank of torpedo master chief, submarine qualified (TMC (SS)). Mr. Young was awarded the Good Conduct Medal with four stars and the Meritorious Unit Citation. He later was a missile inspector for Lockheed Missile and Space Co.
He married
Irene S. Enfield on June 29, 1961.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Young of Silverdale, John Tanodra of Poulsbo and John Jr. of SeaTac; five daughters, Diane Rankin of Pennsylvania, Phyllis Cayan, Val Kincaid, Edna Rediros and Lola Tanodra, all of Hawaii; a sister, Jean McVay of Oregon; a brother, Jerry Young of Colorado; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 9 at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Frances Brown
Frances K. Brown, 91, of Bremerton died of cancer March 24, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Portland, Ore., to Francis and Katherine (Smith) St. Clair. She graduated from high school in Bremerton.
She married
Cecil P. Brown in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Brown and her husband owned C.P. Brown Real Estate and Insurance Co. for 17 years, retiring in 1970.
She enjoyed showing pug dogs and attending dog show events.
Survivors include three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert E. "Bob"; a brother, Miller St. Clair; and a sister, Rhedo Collson.
An inurnment graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. April 15 at Forest Lawn cemetery. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Leland Bennett
Leland Raymond Bennett, 65, of Poulsbo died of a cancerous brain tumor March 3, 2001, in Silverdale.
He was born Nov. 12, 1935, in Newcastle, Wyo., to Francis and Erna (Herrmann) Bennett.
He served in the Marines from 1953 to 1956.
He was a plasterer for several years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He later was a construction planner and estimator.
He was interested in war planes and enjoyed boating.
Survivors include; a son, Raymond of Bremerton; a daughter, Pauline (Bennett) Morrissey of Silverdale; a stepdaughter, Linda (Jones) Robinson of Poulsbo; five brothers, James of Seabeck, Lyle of Silverdale, Wayne of Poulsbo, Gary of Bremerton and Leo Moter of Poulsbo; a sister, Nadine Bronson of Bremerton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bennett.
At his request, no service is planned.

Wendell Hubbell
Former Bremerton resident Wendell L. Hubbell, 84, of Mount Vernon died March 21, 2001, at Life Care Center in Mount Vernon.
He was born March 13, 1917, in Seattle to Lee and Margaret (Hamilton) Hubbell.
He made a career of the Army, serving in World War II and achieving the rank of staff sergeant. Later, he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the supply department.
He was a member of Manette Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred (Doughty) Hubbell of Mount Vernon; a son, Clay of Seattle; a daughter, Tammy Rae of Mount Vernon; a sister, Marjorie Schmuck of Poulsbo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evalyn Virdelle Chase and Lois Etue; and a brother, Glen, all of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Frank Gallanger
Frank B. Gallanger, 93, of Bremerton died March 13, 2001, at The Reeder Residence.
He was born Jan. 13, 1908, on Lopez Island to William and Ann (Bartlett) Gallanger. He graduated from Bellingham High School and Western Washington University.
He married
Vera G. Pierson on March 7, 1931, in Port Orchard.
He taught school in Bremerton for 10 years, then went to work for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the design division as an engineer. After retiring in 1962, he and a partner founded Anderson Design.
He was a past president of Bremerton Trapp & Skeet Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, of Bremerton; a daughter, Marie Forster of Bellevue; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen DeLong
Mary Ellen DeLong, 62, of Cle Elum and formerly of Poulsbo died of a heart attack March 21, 2001, in Cle Elum.
She was born July 14, 1938, in Fairmont, Minn., to Francis and Kathryn Driscoll. She graduated from high school in Fairmont.
She married
Richard "Dutch" DeLong on April 15, 1961.
Mrs. DeLong enjoyed camping and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jon of Seattle and Jake of Poulsbo; a daughter, Becky Swope of Bremerton; two brothers, Pat Driscoll of Minneapolis and Dan Driscoll of Las Vegas; a sister, Kathleen Howe of Sequim; and three grandchildren.
