Donald Clark
Donald Oren Clark, 47, of Bremerton died March 21, 2001, at home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1954, in Walla Walla to Walter C. Clark and Marjalene (Gillum) Harris. He graduated in 1972 from McLoughlin Union High School in Milton-Freewater, Ore.
He married
Sharen A. Downs on August 11, 1973, in Walla Walla.
Mr. Clark worked in retail sales for 30 years.
He was a Seahawks football fan and enjoyed model trains.
Survivors include his wife; his father, Walter Clark of Chinook, Wash.; his mother, Marjalene Harris of Athena Ore.; two daughters, Wendy and Sandra, both of Bremerton; two brothers, Dennis Clark of Seabeck and David Clark of Seattle; grandparents, Vurn and Thelma Stephens of Milton-Freewater; and grandfather, Ellworth Gillum of Weston, Ore.
Visitation is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory.
Nicolas Clemente
Nicolas R. Clemente Sr., 92, of Bremerton died March 22, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 11, 1908, in the Philippines.
Mr. Clemente served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
He married
Louisa Clemente on July 17, 1967, in the Philippines.
He enjoyed bingo and gardening and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Nicolas A. Jr. of Bremerton; two daughters, Frances Monroe and Marilou Clemente, both of Bremerton; a sister, Felipa de Guzman of the Philippines; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesda at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Martha Schaeffer
Bremerton resident Martha Godfrey Schaeffer, 56, died of heart failure March 21, 2001, at home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1944, in Wyoming, Iowa, to Paul and Dorothy Godfrey. She was a 1962 graduate of Hichman High School in Columbia, Mo. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1966 from the University of Missouri and her master's degree in 1968 from the University of Oregon. Later, she attended the University of Puget Sound Law School, graduating in 1987.
She married
Philip Schaeffer June 28, 1969, in Columbia, Mo.
She taught history at Olympic College for 15 years and later practiced law for 13 years.
She was a member of the A.H. Chapter of P.E.O. and former president of Presbyterian Ministries, Inc. She was a member of Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kyle of Olympia and Hugh of Buffalo, N.Y.; a twin brother, Paul Godfrey of New Windsor, N.Y.; and two sisters, Helen Gill of Springfield, Va., and Charlotte Cole of Mount Vernon, Mo.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church in Bremerton.

Kirk Best
Kirk Best, 93, of Silverdale died March 16, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 29, 1908, on the Goodwin homestead in Conewango Township, Cattaraugus County, N.Y., to Horace and Mertie (Kirk) Best. He was a 1928 graduate of Seattle's Highline High School.
He married
his wife, Harriett, on March 29, 1934, in Monroe. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Best worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years as a foreman carpenter and wharfbuilder. Later, he was a homebuilder, retiring in 1973.
He was the the first Cub Scout master in Silverdale and enjoyed gardening and building.
Survivors include three sons, Philip of Bremerton, Robert of Silverdale and Michael of Tacoma; a daughter, Joan of Hilo, Hawaii; a brother, Harold of Gig Harbor; a sister, Bee Bray of Anacortes; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Theodore, James, John, Horace "Vivian" and Richard; a sister, Mary Flodquist; and a grandson.
A private memorial service will be in June at the family farm in Silverdale.

William Davenport
William Davenport, 41, of Poulsbo died while snowboarding March 15, 2001, in the Dolomiti Mountains of Italy.
He was born Sept. 18, 1959, in Grand Island, Neb., to "Bud" and Arlene Davenport.
Mr. Davenport was on active duty with the Navy in Italy at the time of his death. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and three Marine Corps and Navy Achievement medals.
He married
Chandra "Candy" McDowell on June 11, 1988, in Crystal Lake, Nev.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, of Fort Collins, Colo.; a son, William Jr. of Poulsbo; a daughter, Michelle of Poulsbo; and seven brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Allison Rose, in 1988, his father and a sister.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Naval Submarine Base Chapel at Bangor.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary The Stone Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory.
Robert Nouque
Robert Nouque, 84, of Retsil died March 16, 2001, at Washington Veterans Home.
He was born Dec. 2, 1916, in San Francisco to Joseph and Honorine (Baird) Nouque. He attended Gallieo High School in San Francisco.
He married
Irene Elaine Mansen on Aug. 12, 1944, in San Francisco. She preceded him in death in 1977.
He was a motor machinist's mate in the Navy.
Mr. Nouque later was an auto mechanic for 50 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed the outdoors and watching the San Francisco 49ers.
Survivors include a son, Robert James of Bremerton; two daughters, Joann Nouque of Olalla and Jean Nouque of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Jack Chiaulo of Florida; a sister, Honorine Joyce of San Francisco; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Kenneth.
A memorial service was held Thursday at Washington Veterans Home.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Benitta Harrell
Former Bremerton resident Benitta Harrell, 73, of Tumwater died of lung cancer March 16, 2001, in Centralia.
She was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Lebanon, Pa., and was a graduate of Olympic College in Bremerton.
She enjoyed gardening and church activities.
Survivors include two sons, Walter of Chehalis and Ron of Shelton; and three grandchildren.
Visitation and a graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Garden cemetery in Olympia.

Michael Strangi
Michael Stanley Strangi, 39, of Bremerton died March 6, 2001, at home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1961, in Biloxi, Miss., to Thomas and Veronica (Ballantyne) Strangi. He attended Alderwood High School in Lynnwood.
He worked in construction and as a roofer for 19 years.
Mr. Strangi enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Veronica Gragg of Bremerton; a son, Jesse of Kent; a brother, Tommy Jr. of Gulfport, Miss.; a sister, Karen Buehler of Clinton, Miss.; uncles, aunts, cousins and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kitsap Lake Baptist Church. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Rheannon Noffsinger
Rheannon Douglass Noffsinger, born Feb. 9, 2001, in Bremerton, died March 15, 2001, in Seattle.
Survivors include her parents, Steven P. and Cheryl A. (Redlin) Noffsinger of Bremerton; a sister, Marquette E. of Bremerton; a brother, Samuel J. of Bremerton; maternal grandmother, Sandy Wolstenholm of Bremerton; and paternal grandparents, Joe and Esther Noffsinger of Adrian, Mich.
Services have been held. Arrangements were under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Cathern Pattison
Cathern E. Pattison, 92, of Port Orchard died March 18, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born April 12, 1908, in Sequim to John and Nellie (Wilson) Fortman.
She was a beautician for 35 years.
She enjoyed a variety of handcrafts and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary No. 2338.
She was Protestant.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Barnes; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1981; a daughter, Laura McCown; and three brothers, Volentine Rice, Clarence Fortman and Wilson Fortman.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will follow. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Curtis Gainey
Curtis Gainey, 87, formerly of Port Angeles, currently of Dryden, died March 15, 2001, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
He was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Bloomfield, Ind., to Glen and Oma (Britton) Gainey. He attended school in Bloomfield.
He married
Ada Weixel on Jan. 13, 1939, in Port Angeles. She preceded him in death in 1975.
Mr. Gainey was a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 29 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 192 in Bremerton.
Survivors include a brother, Ross of Indiana; five sisters, Eurtis Hassler, Leona Hancock, Janice Bayliff, Ruby Stanton and Winoma Gainey, all of Indiana. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ward's Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth.
