Karen Garoutte
Karen L. Garoutte, 67, of Poulsbo died March 18, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Herbert and Donna (Hancey) Oswald. She was a 1951 graduate of Idaho Falls High School.
She married
N.D. "Shorty" Garoutte on Aug. 24, 1962, in Idaho Falls.
She was a homemaker.
She volunteered at the Naval Undersea Museum at Keyport and was instrumental in starting the museum store.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Kenneth of Poulsbo, Michael of Yuma, Ariz., and Bryan of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Stacey Garoutte of Poulsbo; four sisters, Lou Jean Neilson and Linda Shearer, both of Idaho Falls, Deanna Rasmussen of North Ogden, Utah, and Jan Ortez of Sacramento; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Cremation will take place at Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.

Milton French
Milton E. French, 83, of Silverdale died March 16, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Los Angeles to William and Nancy (Ammons) Hill. He graduated from Hollywood High School in Hollywood, Calif., in 1935 and from Oceanside Junior College in Oceanside, Calif., in 1937.
Mr. French served in the Air Force, achieving the rank of captain.
He married
Rose Falk on April 15, 1955, in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Mr. French was a security officer with Lockheed for 40 years, retiring in 1977.
He enjoyed hunting and martial arts.
He is survived by his wife.
At the family's request, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory.

Betty Fisher
Betty Louise Fisher, 72, of Port Orchard died of natural causes March 17, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Carl and Hattie (Clauson) Rutherford.
She married
Donald James Fisher Sr. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fisher was a housekeeper for 15 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Southern Baptist church.
Survivors include two sons, Jack of Seabeck and Jim of Port Orchard; a daughter, Darlene Liss of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by six siblings, Irene, Harold, Clyde, Leonard, Virgil and Jerry.
Roy Williams
Roy E. Williams, 84, of Leon, Kan., and formerly of Port Orchard, died of cancer March 6, 2001, in Wichita, Kan.
He was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Bristow, Okla., to John and Lora (Dickerson) Williams.
He married
June J. Devine in October 1938, in Fairfield, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1984.
Mr. Williams had been self-employed in the poultry/egg business for 25 years, retiring in 1970.
Survivors include two sons, Robert of Ponca City, Okla., and Barry of Soap Lake; three daughters, Shirley Crietz of San Jose, Calif., Barbara Landers of Statesville, N.C., and Judy Lay of Caldwell, Idaho; five brothers, Doyle and Curtis, both of Ceres, Calif., Dean of Ely, Nev., Eldon of Modesto, Calif., and Harlan of Columbia, Calif.; a sister, Jean Carpenter
of Ozark, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service is planned. Interment
will take place at Highland cemetery in Winfield, Kan. under the direction of Smith Mortuary.
John Ravenkamp Jr.
John Jerome Ravenkamp Jr., 50, of Bremerton died of leukemia March 15, 2001, at Madigan Army Hospital.
He was born Sept. 24, 1950, in Salina, Kan., to John and Susan (Snider) Ravenkamp Sr. He attended high school in Salina, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1968.
He married
Janet Eyler on March 13, 1976, in Vallejo, Calif.
He was a submarine sonar technician for 20 years, achieving the rank of E-8, senior chief petty officer. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Expeditionary Medal with a Bronze Star. Later, he worked in welding Shop 26 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed fishing and building things.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Susan (Snider) Jamison of New Cambria, Kan.; a son, Royce of Bremerton; three daughters, Heather and Ashley Ravenkamp and Elizabeth Lima, all of Bremerton; seven sisters, Linda Ingram and Ann Nowlin, both of Salina, Marge Albertson of Greenwood, Mo., Mary Miller and Teresa Pearson both of Ellsworth, Kan., Cindy Eisenhower of Pratt, Kan., and Judy Larson of Lincoln, Kan.; a brother, James of Salina; and one grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Nancy Hawrylciw
Nancy E. Hawrylciw, 61, of Bremerton died of cancer March 16, 2001, at Providence Hospital.
She was born April 24, 1939, in Cortez, Colo., to Emanuel and Dorothy (Katzdorn) Pagone. She graduated from high school in Colorado.
On July 21, 1977, she married
Raymond N. Hawrylciw in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Hawrylciw served as a longtime employee for the Navy Exchange. She later worked for 20 years as a Realtor with Silverdale Realty.
Her hobbies included cross-stitching and gardening. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin David Sheldon of Stockton, Calif., and Timothy Sheldon of Bremerton; two daughters, Tracy Lake and Summer Hawrylciw, both of Bremerton; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Chapel.

Robert Rahman
Robert Rahman, 83, of Bremerton died of natural causes March 18, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born April 27, 1917, in Seattle to Henry John and Jenny (Jensen) Rahman. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1935, and later attended Wilson's Business College and Olympic College.
He married
Violet P. Laes on Feb. 10, 1940.
Mr. Rahman was a quarterman boatbuilder for 33 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the NARFE and the Bremerton Yacht Club for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Timothy of Spokane, Ricky of Silverdale and Gregory of Petaluma, Calif.; a brother, Richard of Bremerton; a sister, Gladys Dawn of Cle Elum; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Bouldron of Des Moines.
Private family services are scheduled.

James Williams
James O. Williams, 62, died March 18, 2001, at his Port Orchard home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Paris, Texas, to William and Allene (Goode) Williams. Following his 1955 graduation from Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif., he joined the Air Force.
Williams married
Beverly D. Kuster on Dec. 29, 1967, in Bakersfield. She preceded him in death in 1999.
He was a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
His hobbies included computers and sports.
Survivors include his mother of Bakersfield; three sons, T.J. and Allen, both of Port Orchard, and Mark of Las Vegas; two daughters, Robyn Brown of Port Orchard and Kathyleen Williams of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren. His son, Robby Gordon, also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, followed by a 1 p.m. graveside service and interment at Sunset Lane cemetery of Port Orchard.

LaVonn Stepper
Former Port Orchard resident LaVonn Stepper, 70, of North Pole, Alaska, died of heart failure March 18, 2001, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
She was born Feb. 13, 1931, in The Dalles, Ore.
Survivors include a son, Ken of Port Orchard; a daughter, Bonnie Mahrt of North Pole; a sister, Orleana Stepper; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Fred Haynes
Fred G. Haynes, 50, of Poulsbo died March 16, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Feb. 2, 1951, in Los Angeles to Fred N. and Evelena M. (Jacobs) Haynes. He was a 1969 graduate of North Kitsap High School. Later, he attended Olympic College and Fort Steilacoom College in Tacoma.
He was a title insurance officer and real estate broker for 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing and baseball.
He attended St. Olaf's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother of Poulsbo; two brothers, Thomas J. of Poulsbo and Robert M. of Port Townsend; three sisters, Nancy J. Bale of Poulsbo, Teresa M. Smith of Hansville and Marilyn A. Turowski of Athens, Wis.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Kaye Kimple
Kaye I. Kimple, 69, of Bremerton died of complications from diabetes and heart disease March 17, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 25, 1931, in Bremerton to Chester and Elsie (Martin) Kimple. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1949 and from Western Washington University in 1959.
He served in the Air Force, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
He married
Elizabeth Cayabyab on March 22, 1996, in the Philippines.
He was a parole officer in Seattle and a teacher at Bremerton Middle School for 25 years, retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed scuba diving and working with youth.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Andy Kimple of Port Orchard, Chet Kimple of Bremerton, Greg Kimple and Teizi Mersai, both of Renton, Jayson Dizon of the Philippines, Sam Mersai of California and Neil Rengiil of Guam; four daughters, Eli Mow and Raeanne Kimple, both of Bremerton, Joan Dizon and Jenalyn Dizon, both of the Philippines; one brother, Tom of California; two sisters, Doris Horne and Judy Kasler of Port Orchard; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, also at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.
