Neva Wells
Neva R. Wells, 93, of Port Orchard died March 16, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born Oct. 11, 1907, in Ravanna, Mo., to William and Ada (Pickett) Gannon.
She was a member of Port Orchard Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include two sons, Garland of Port Orchard and Buddy of Graham; a daughter, Zerelda Slezak of Port Orchard; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Haven of Rest Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Port Orchard Church of the Nazarene. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

Mina Carter
Mina Carter, 84, of Port Orchard died March 11, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Edmondton, Alberta, Canada. She graduated from Marysville High School in Marysville in 1936.
On Aug. 31, 1940, she married
Troy Carter in Everett.
Mrs. Carter enjoyed gardening and oil painting.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Sandy Schmitz of Port Orchard; a brother, Claude Van Meter of Marysville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Memorials may be made a charity of the donor's choice.
Verna Behm
Verna M. Behm, 89, of Port Orchard, died March 12, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Burlington, N.D., to William and Jennie (Wilson) Kluver.
She married
Leo Behm on Aug. 10, 1933, in Minot, N.D.
She was a member of the Givens Senior Center, The Degree of Honor, and a 36-year member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Harold of Bremerton, LeRoy of Smartsville, Calif., and Marvin of Renton; a daughter, Jan Feldmeir of Stanwood; a brother Wilford "Fritz" "Mike" Kluver of Bremerton; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Howard.
A rosary will be said at 7 tonight at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home, at Rill Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Harold Engstrom
Harold Eugene Engstrom, 51, of Maple Valley, died of cancer March 11, 2001, at University of Washington Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Bremerton to Floyd and Alice Engstrom. He graduated from West High School in 1968 and Olympic Community College in 1970.
He married
Rebecca "Becky" Bergquist in August 1970.
He was involved in computer programming for more than 25 years.
Mr. Engstrom was a member of Maple Valley Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Bremerton; a son, Lee of Maple Valley; three daughters, Holly Engstrom of Maple Valley, Heidi Ennis of Enumclaw and Heather Elliot of Puyallup; a brother, Jim of Bremerton; a sister, Virginia Hotten of Bremerton; and one grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at Maple Valley Presbyterian Church in Maple Valley.
Michael R. Binning
Michael Roy "Tiger" Binning, 35, of Bremerton died Feb. 10, 2001, at home.
He was born March 3, 1965, in Waukegan, Ill., to Ronald and Barbara Binning. He attended high school in Whitney, Texas.
He was a petty officer in the Navy from 1985 to 1987.
He married
Audrey Patterson on Aug. 20, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was part owner of The Record Shop in the early 1990s in Bremerton. He worked in landscaping for several years.
He was a member of Sons of American Legion in Illinois for 35 years and a den dad for Cub Scouts in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sondra Wankowski of Bremerton; his mother; his grandmother, Opal Johnston of Bremerton; a brother, Ron of Bonney Lake; his father; a stepbrother, Todd; a half-sister, Rhonda; three stepbrothers, Harry of Edmonds, Thomas Day of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Michael Day of Everett; and a stepsister, Mitzi of Everett. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, M. William in 1962, and a sister, Sandra Lee in 1978.
A private memorial service was held.
Helen Hura
Helen Ruth Hura, 74, of Poulsbo, died of cancer March 14, 2001, at home.
She was born Sept. 16, 1926, to Charles and Rose (Roidt) McDonald on Bainbridge Island. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1944.
On April 15, 1944, she married
John Hura on Bainbridge Island.
She worked for IGA Supermarket as a grocery clerk for 27 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed traveling to Alaska.
She was a member of Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church in Poulsbo.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, John of Auburn and Larry of Haines, Alaska; three daughters, Kathy Clark of Enumclaw, Pat Horton of Mount Vernon, and Susie Mathews of Kingston; one brother, Chuck McDonald of Miller Bay; one sister, June Webster of Poulsbo; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Kane cemetery on Bainbridge Island. A reception follows at 2:30 p.m. at American Legion on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under Kass Funeral Home.

Donald Reiber
Donald R. Reiber, 69, of Bremerton, died of natural causes in Bremerton.
He was born June 16, 1931, to Carl Sr. and Bertha (Schauerman) Reiber in Windsor, Colo. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1949.
He owned and operated Don Reiber Painting in California for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of North County Anglers in Vista, Calif. He also enjoyed gardening.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his mother; one son, Rick of Grapevine, Texas; five daughters, Melody Dickinson of Bremerton, Laurel Christy of Woodland, Donica Poer of Vancouver, Wash., Robin Frazier of Grapevine, Texas, and Tammy Borg of Desmet, S.D.; one brother, Henry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, MaryAnn Whitson and Dottie Lee, both of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy; and a brother, Carl Jr.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Naval Hospital Chapel in Bremerton. Cremation is at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

John Kaufman
John Maxwell Kaufman, 78, of Bremerton died March 12, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 10, 1922, to Burwell and Hazel (Maxwell) Kaufman in Denver. He graduated high school in Denver. He graduated from University of Washington in 1950.
He served in the Army.
He worked for the computer security departments at Lockheed and Boeing until he retired.
He is survived by one sister, Margaret Brown of Bremerton.
Private graveside services will be held at Ivy Green cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lee Harris
Elverd "Lee" Harris, 80, of Bremerton, died March 14, 2001, at Ashley Gardens.
He was born July 22, 1920, to William E. and Margaret L. (Morrissey) Harris in Hamilton, Mont. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1939.
He worked as a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II. He later owned and operated Lee's Auto Parts for 30 years, retiring in 1982.
On April 27, 1942, he married
Yula May Jones in Seattle.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1181 and Olympic Vintage Car Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Bainbridge Island and Steven of Auburn; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, William and two sisters, Anna and Deloris.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Marie Wright
Marie Baarslag Brown Wright, 85, of Home died of cancer March 8, 2001, at her residence.
She was born July 14, 1915, to Hendrik and Maaike (Stuvel) Baarslag in New Westminster, British Columbia. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma in 1933. She received her bachelor of arts in 1938 and her master's degree in art in 1967 at the University of Washington.
She was an art education instructor at University of Washington for 30 years, retiring in 1982.
She married
her first husband, John Brown in New York. On May 21, 1992, she married
her second husband, F. Howard Wright, in Kauai, Hawaii.
She is survived by her husband, Howard; one son, Ross Baarslag-Benson of Lake Forest Park; two daughters, Sarah Brown Riendeau of Warner, N.H., and Tracey Brown de Langan of San Ignacio, Belize; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henrik Jr. and Jasper.

Emma Farman
Emma Jane Farman, 97, of Sequim, died of heart disease
March 11, 2001, in Sequim.
She was born Feb. 9, 1904, to George and Flossie (White) Hofstetter in Colville. She graduated from Colville High School and Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
She married
Curtis Farman. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She worked as a teacher for 45 years before retiring.
She was a member of Eastern Star and enjoyed playing Bridge.
She was a Presbyterian.
She is survived by one son, Richard Miller of Las Vegas; one daughter, Marilyn (Potter) Collins of Port Ludlow; and one grandchild.
There will be no services at her request. Arrangements are under Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
