Cynthia Demeny
Cynthia J. (Fleming) Demeny, 46, of Bremerton, died March 2, 2001, at the University of Washington Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born May 20, 1954, in Grass Valley, Calif., to Willard and Jeanette (Rutland) Sanford.
She worked as a bartender at various local restaurants and enjoyed motorcycling and coin collecting.
Survivors include her companion, Tim Deniger; a son, Jeffery A. Demeny of Bremerton; a brother, Raymond Sanford, of Grass Valley; and a sister, Carolyn Holmes, of Auburn, Calif.
A wake is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Old Town Pub in Silverdale.
Ellis Cline
Ellis E. Cline, 42, of Sterling, Alaska, died Feb. 22, 2001, at home.
He was born July 21, 1958, in Bremerton.
Mr. Cline moved to Alaska in 1995 and worked for Fred Meyer in Soldotna for the last four years.
He loved hunting, fishing, hiking and camping.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Leslie L. and Agnes D. Cline of Port Orchard; a sister, Robin Hall of Port Orchard; and a stepbrother, Larry Bertholf of Port Orchard.
At the family's request, no services are planned. Mr. Cline's ashes will be scattered in the Kenai River. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
Kenneth Schager
Kenneth W. Schager, 82, of Poulsbo, died March 12, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born June 27, 1918, in Sisseton, S.D., to Arthur J. and Angeline (Conley) Schager.
He married
Gloria Geck on Dec. 2, 1998, in Poulsbo.
He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Schager worked as a shipwright for Washington State Ferries for 24 years, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include his wife, four sons, Fred, Richard, Steve, and David Kennedy, all of Poulsbo; two daughters, Angela Robinett of Silverdale and Cheryl Wilson of Port Orchard; three sisters, Lillian Fisher of Tacoma, Ruth Bible of Port Angeles and Ester Osburn of Yelm; three brothers, Alvin Schager of Sumner, Darrel Schager of Centralia and Merlin Schager of Auburn; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosella Andersen; and two brothers, Dean Schager and Lyle Schager.
A private family memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001, at 1175 N.W. Thornwood in Silverdale. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Crematory. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Verna Behm
Verna M. Behm, 89, of Port Orchard died March 12, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Burlington, N.D., to William and Jennie (Wilson) Kluver.
She married
Leo Behm on Aug. 10, 1933, in Minot, N.D.
She was a member of the Givens Senior Center, The Degree of Honor, and a 36-year member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Harold of Bremerton, LeRoy of Smartsville, Calif., and Marvin of Renton; a daughter, Jan Feldmeir of Stanwood; a brother Wilford "Fritz" "Mike" Kluver of Bremerton; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Howard.
Visitation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home, at Rill Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Harold Engstrom
Harold Eugene Engstrom, 51, of Maple Valley died of cancer March 11, 2001, at University of Washington Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Bremerton to Floyd and Alice Engstrom. He graduated from West High School in 1968 and Olympic Community College in 1970.
He married
Rebecca "Becky" Bergquist in August 1970.
He was involved in computer programming for over 25 years.
Mr. Engstrom was a member of Maple Valley Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his parents of Bremerton; a son, Lee of Maple Valley; three daughters, Holly Engstrom of Maple Valley, Heidi Ennis and Heather Elliot, both of Bremerton; a sister Virginia Hotten of Bremerton; and one grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at Maple Valley Presbyterian Church in Maple Valley.
Gladys France
Gladys Maybelle France, 90, of Port Orchard died March 11, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born August 12, 1910, in Palouse, Wash., to Levie and Clara Cook. She was a 1937 graduate of Colfax High School in Colfax, Wash. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Maridel Schrader of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver G. France.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. March 21, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace, 2051 Pottery Ave., in Port Orchard. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Bryan Mathes
Bryan D. "Fuzzy" Mathes, 61, of Bremerton died of cardiac arrest, March 10, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Oklahoma to Jimmy L. and Alta (Blevins) Mathes.
He was a roofer and brushpicker.
He enjoyed being a musician and songwriter.
Survivors include his parents; three sons, Jason, Eric and Bryan; three daughters, Laura "Lori, " Belinda and Tina; five brothers, Roy of Belfair, Bill and David of Allyn, Karl of Port Orchard and Paul of Bremerton; four sisters, Cheryl Tecumseh, Lois Jenkins of Bremerton, Jeannie Buchanan of Belfair and Cheri Town of Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jonathan "Donnie" Mathes and James "Allen" Mathes; and a sister, Gail Miller.
Mr. Mathes requested that no funeral service be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton. A "jam session" in his honor is planned for 2 p.m. March 25, 2001, at the North Mason Eagles in Belfair.
Beverly Lookabaugh
Beverly Rose Lookabaugh, 79, of Bremerton died March 11, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born April 10, 1921, in Spokane to George and Gwen Schuster. She attended North Central High School and Holy Names Academy, both in Spokane.
She married
Mark Lookabaugh in August 1942 in Idaho.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. She played the organ and was an accomplished pianist. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Mark Lookabaugh of Tigard, Ore., a daughter, Marcia Halsted of Silverdale; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Alice Foreman
Alice Irene Foreman, 84, of Port Orchard died of a stroke Feb. 25, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born May 25, 1916, in Marbleton, Wyo.
She was a member of a writers group and enjoyed gardening.
Private services will be held.
Priscilla Rowan
Priscilla E. Rowan, 85, of Bremerton died as a result of a stroke March 12, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 18, 1915, to Clement and Mary (Vose) Elmer in Staten Island, N.Y.
In 1939, she married
James Rowan in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening and being with her family.
She is survived by five daughters, Priscilla Branch of Cape Cod, Mass., Elizabeth Dyksen of Kinderhook, N.Y., Sally Olmstead of Grapeview, Hollis Seaman of Albany, N.Y., and Susan Nelson of Tacoma; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, James S. Rowan Jr. in 1967.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Shelton Memorial Park.
Ron Kolb
Former Bremerton resident Theodore R. "Ron" Kolb, 64, died of natural causes March 11, 2001, in Cottonwood, Ariz.
He was born January 21, 1937, to Theodore Kolb and Marvel Potter in Austin, Minn. He attended high school in Austin and college in California.
He served in the Marine Corps from approximately 1967 to 1976, achieving the rank of captain. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal with four stars.
Later, he was a captain of Marine Corps, Veterans Advocate, retiring in 1998.
On May 18, 1999, he married
Kathleen A. Bulthuis in Las Vegas.
He was a member of the Church of Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Theodore J. Kolb, Tyson R. Kolb, Peter F. Stock, and Craig M. Stock; one daughter, Tina Joyce; two brothers; two sisters; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
There will be no service. Arrangements are under Sedona Funeral Home in Arizona.

Walter Kim
Former Poulsbo resident, Walter T.S. Kim, 77, died Feb. 10, 2001, in Garden Grove, Calif.
He was born July 8, 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He served in the Army during World War II and later worked as a federal employee.
He enjoyed square dancing.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey, Jason and Jerome all of California; two brothers, Andrew Kim and Abraham Lagondino; two sisters, Dorothy Rudie and Nancy Omori; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at the National Memorial cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.
