Penny Young
Former Bremerton resident Penny Lynn Young, 48, of Modesto, Calif., died following a lengthy illness Feb. 17, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Winslow to Elza and Bernice Long. She graduated in 1971 from West High School in Bremerton and attended Olympic College.
She married
Larry Young on July 21, 1973.
Mrs. Young was a bookkeeper for 12 years.
She enjoyed her family and working with crafts.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Christy Werner and Nancy Young of Modesto; three sisters, Wanda Daman of Bainbridge Island, Maurine Brown of Silverdale and Barbara May of Hansville; and one grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Modena Miller.
A funeral service was held Feb. 22 at Valley Home Memorial Park in Oakdale, Calif., followed by internment. Arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Services.

Imogene Braicks
Imogene Annette Braicks, 74, of Grapeview died Feb. 25, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Auburn to Thomas and Annette (Nelson) Bow. She graduated in 1944 from Kent High School.
She married
Harry Braicks on April 11, 1946, in Kent. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Braicks was a homemaker. She enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Grapeview Community Club.
Survivors include her companion, Perry Baunsgard of Grapeview; two sons, Bill and Rick, both of Vashon Island; two daughters, Margaret Bramel Jacobson of West Seattle and Cheryl Mazanti of Mill Creek; two sisters, Dorothy Hill of Vashon Island and Lorraine Smith of Whidbey Island; and nine grandchildren.
A celebration of her life is planned from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rainier Golf and Country Club, 1856 S. 112th St. in Seattle. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
William Lenihan
William B. Lenihan, 79, of Bremerton died of heart failure Feb. 25, 2001, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Newport, R.I., to James D. and Mary A. (Moore) Lenihan. He graduated in 1939 from North Kitsap High School and attended Olympic College. He completed an electrical apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1947.
He married
Jean E. Christensen on April 25, 1947, in Seattle.
He served in the Navy for two years, achieving the rank of fire controlman 3rd class. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with one star.
He worked in government service for 37 years. He was an electrician at PSNS, retiring in 1977 as a management analyst with the Naval Supply Center Puget Sound.
Mr. Lenihan was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Elks in Bremerton. He also was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, J. Daniel of Bonney Lake and David C. of Yakima; four sisters, Agnes Junell and Katherine Jensen, both of Silverdale, Mary Dahlem of Hemet, Calif., and Anne Schneider of Richland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Nils Stangeland
Nils Stangeland, 88, of Poulsbo died from complications of Alzheimer's disease Feb. 22, 2001.
He was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Norway to Joseph and Delia (Penn) Stangeland.
He married
Helen Olsen on Nov. 18, 1944, in Ketchikan, Alaska.
Mr. Stangeland was a self-employed fisherman for 72 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo and the Ballard Eagles. He also was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jon Michael of Poulsbo; a daughter, Nancy Stangeland of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Hank and Ed, both of Bellingham; and two sisters, Marie Siverson and Delia Joule, both of Bellingham. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
At his request, there will be no service. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Virgil Hanson
Virgil Duane Hanson, 58, of Grapeview died of cancer Feb. 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 31, 1942, in York, N.D., to Roy and Anna (Strand) Hanson. He graduated in 1960 from Minot High School in Minot, N.D.
He married
Margaret Anderson on Sept. 5, 1964, in Kenmare, N.D.
Mr. Hanson served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1963.
He owned a convenience store for 15 years in Grapeview, where he served as the "self-appointed" mayor.
He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Erik of Bremerton; a daughter, Michele Hanson-Millsap of Puyallup; a brother, Kenneth of Dover, N.H.; two sisters, Adelyne Hanson-Nelson of Puyallup and LaVaughn Hanson-Knutsen of Corona, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrance and Ray.
Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Agnes Miller
Agnes C. Miller, 97, of Bremerton died of respiratory failure Feb. 25, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1903, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Ole and Anne (Hansen) Jorgensen. She graduated from Hollywood High School in Hollywood, Calif.
She married
Fred Miller in 1927, in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and needlework.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Holt of Allyn; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A private family service is planned. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.

William Bell
William Johnson Bell, 96, of Belfair died Feb. 19, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1904, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Albert and Julia (Johnson) Bell. He attended high school in Knoxville.
He married
Nettie Belle Potter.
Mr. Bell was a chef for 45 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Pilot Butte Christian Church in Bend.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Barbara Ekstrom of Belfair, Nancy Kraft of Santa Ana, Calif., and Julia Wolfe of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend, Ore., and Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton.

Wesley Murner
Wesley L. Murner, 96, of Bremerton died Feb. 22, 2001, at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1905, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Norman and Altha (Lockwood) Murner. He was raised and educated there.
In 1927, he married
Lela Morgan in Clark County, S.D. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Murner served in the National Guard prior to World War II.
He retired in 1968 as a shop planner at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 24 years.
He was a Scottish Rite Shriner and a member of Power Squadron. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, Harold L. of Port Orchard; a daughter Altha R. Reed of Bremerton; a brother Harold of Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a grandson, a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Jacob Bradley
Jacob L. Bradley died at birth Feb. 21, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Joshua Bradley of Bremerton and Lacey Glassman of Tacoma; his maternal grandmother, Valerie Glassman of Tacoma; his paternal grandparents, Penelope Bradley of Bremerton and Rodney Bradley of Denver; and his maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Donovan of Port Hadlock.
No service is scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Richard Boddy
Former Port Orchard resident Richard C. Boddy, 71, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Feb. 22, 2001, in Cheyenne.
He was born July 18, 1929, in Bellevue to Francis and Ferne (Fowler) Boddy. He graduated in 1948 from South Kitsap High School, and attended Olympic College and the University of Washington.
Mr. Boddy served in the Navy from 1949 to 1953 and in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He earned a Purple Heart for service in the Korean War.
He was a power plant superintendent in Fairbanks, Alaska, for 30 years until his retirement. He also was a bush pilot in Alaska.
Mr. Boddy was a member of the Bremerton Lions Club and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his former wife, Edith Boddy of Cheyenne; his mother, Ferne Boddy of Bremerton; three sons, David, Robert and Donald, all of Cheyenne; two brothers, Donald of Kingman, Ariz., and Bruce of Roseburg, Ore.; a sister, Joanne Petersen of Bremerton; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Tiger Binning
Michael Roy "Tiger" Binning, 35, of Bremerton died Feb. 10, 2001, at home.
He was born March 3, 1965, in Waukegan, Ill., to Ronald and Barbara Binning. He attended high school in Whitney, Texas.
He was a petty officer in the Navy from 1985 to 1987.
He married
Audrey Patterson on Aug. 20, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was part owner of The Record Shop in the early 1990s in Bremerton. He worked in landscaping for several years.
He was a member of S.A.L. in Illinois for 35 years and a den dad for Cub Scouts in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sondra Wankowski of Bremerton; his mother; his grandmother, Opal Johnston of Bremerton; a brother, Ron of Bonney Lake; his father; a stepbrother, Todd; a half-sister, Rhonda; three stepbrothers, Harry of Edmonds, Thomas Day of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Michael Day of Everett; and a stepsister, Mitzi of Everett. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, M. William in 1962, and a sister, Sandra Lee in 1978.
A private memorial service was held.
