Ruby Browning
Ruby E. Browning, 91, of Bremerton died Feb. 8, 2001, at Forrest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1909, in North Dakota to Christopher and Abigail (Larsen) Hansen.
She owned a dry-cleaning establishment.
She is survived by a son, John of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 at Bremerton Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4949 Taylor Road in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Cady Cremation Services of Kent.
Ray Pridemore
Ray Pridemore, 67, of Port Orchard died Feb. 11, 2001, at home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1933, in Mallie, Ky., to Russell and Opal (Collins) Pridemore.
He married
Adna Conway on Jan. 12, 1957, in Kentucky. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He served in the Navy as an aviation boatswain mate for more than 20 years, achieving the rank of chief petty officer before retiring in 1976.
He enjoyed hunting and was a member of fleet reserve.
Survivors include his mother of Mallie, Ky.; a son, C. R. "Bud" of Bellevue, Neb.; a daughter, DeRhonda Porter of Oak Harbor; and six grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Rex.
No service is scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Melva Moss Carlson
Melva Anna Moss Carlson, 92, of Bremerton died Jan. 30, 2001, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 1, 1908, in Salt Lake City to John and Christina Moss.
She married
Roy C. Carlson in Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death in 1985.
In recent years, she crocheted baby hats for area hospitals. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Bradley of Seattle; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard W. Bess; and by a sister, Darlene Tuckett.
Private services were held. Inurnment was at Riverview Abbey in Portland, Ore.
Robert Thorsen
Robert Thorsen, 80, of Edmonds and formerly of Bremerton and Silverdale, died Dec. 29, 2000, in Edmonds.
He was born June 20, 1920, in Silverdale to Torger and Gertrude Thorsen. He graduated from Silverdale High School in 1938.
He married
Nelladean Leach on March 16, 1946, in Bremerton.
Mr. Thorsen served in the Navy as a chief during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob; and by two brothers, Ed and Art.

Daisy Schafer
Daisy "Jessup" Schafer, 96, of Puyallup and formerly of Bainbridge Island, died Jan. 29, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center of natural causes.
She was born March 10, 1904, at Port Blakely on Bainbridge Island to George and Elizabeth Jessup. She attended Port Blakely and Pleasant Beach schools on Bainbridge Island, later attending school in Bremerton.
She married
Reuben E. Schafer on Oct. 4, 1947, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps as a corporal from 1942 to 1945. She received the Bronze Star and four Battle Stars.
Mrs. Schafer worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 32 years, retiring in 1959.
She enjoyed flying and received her private pilot license in 1947. She was a member of the American Legion.
She is survived by a niece, Shirley Lindquist Peterson; and two grandnephews.
At her request, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Oakwood Hill Funeral Chapel.

Majel Sander
Majel Marie Sander, 92, of Manchester died of congestive heart failure Feb. 9, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 3, 1908, in Spokane to Edward and Grace (Bakker) Fish. She graduated from North Central High School in Spokane in 1926.
She married
Willis Charles Sander on Aug. 11, 1935, in Spokane. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She was a homemaker and mother.
She enjoyed sewing and outdoor activities.
She was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Willis "Bill" of Redmond and Leon of Port Orchard; a brother Fred Fish of Spokane; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Terrace in Spokane.

William Polhamus
William Paul Polhamus, 79, of Bremerton died Feb. 9, 2001, at home.
He was born April 10, 1921, in Seattle to William and Alexina (Bourgette) Polhamus. He graduated in 1939 from O'Dea High School in Seattle.
He married
Viola Grenz on March 8, 1943, in Bremerton.
He served in the Coast Guard as a cook for approximately four years.
He was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He also had been an instructor at PSNS in the machinist apprenticeship program.
He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Elks in Bremerton.
He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe of Belfair; four daughters, Janette Paulson of Port Orchard, Penny Blankenship of Suquamish, Terri Edwards of Las Vegas and Anna Harlan of Bremerton; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulette.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn.

Estelle Ollenburger
Estelle M. Ollenburger, 82, of Gig Harbor died Feb. 10, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.
She was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Wilton, N.D., to George and Hazel (Sallows) Scott. She graduated in 1937 from Wilton High School.
She married
Bernard Ollenburger on June 24, 1938, in Washburn, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1966.
She was a homemaker and community volunteer.
She enjoyed growing dahlias and roses and feeding and caring for wildlife.
She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Eugene of Bremerton; a daughter, Janis Otto of Gig Harbor; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry; three brothers, Don, Walt and Roland; and three sisters, Eva, Gertrude and twin sister Esther.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Doc Herr
David William "Doc" Herr Jr., 68, of Silverdale died of cancer Feb. 11, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
He was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Aberdeen to David and Hazel (Kaine) Herr. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1952.
He married
Beverly Walden on April 5, 1957, in Bethesda, Md.
He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1985 earning the Navy Commendation Medal with a Gold Star.
He also worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Shop 105, and retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Elks 1181. He enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a daughter, Tracy Hartman of Navarre, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Hudson of La Quinta, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine E. Meyer, in 1986.
No service is planned.

William Hines
William Ralph Hines, 78, of Kingston died Feb. 10, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Mansfield, Ohio, to George and Iris (Canada) Hines. He received his education in Mansfield.
He married
Louise Nazarenus on Feb. 19, 1949, in Portland, Ore.
He served in the Army in the ferry command moving airplanes from place-to-place.
He was owner and operator of The Glass House in Seattle for many years.
He loved growing flowers and collecting brass items.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Frances Pegg of Florida; and a brother, Welford of Springhill, Fla.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.
