Anne Cronin
Anne Teresa Cronin, 58, of Bremerton died of respiratory failure Feb. 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 15, 1942, to Joseph and Anna Uzdavinis. She graduated in 1960 from East Patterson High School in Patterson, N.J., and in 1962 from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
She enjoyed oil painting and making beaded jewelry.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Cronin; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Uzdavinis.
A memorial service will be at her home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment will take place at Holy Sepulchre cemetery in New Jersey.
Frances Hanford
Frances Eleanor Hanford, 68, of Bainbridge Island died Feb. 9, 2001, at Messenger House Care Center.
She was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Marcelline, Mo., to Robert and Eleanor (Atkinson) Mason. She graduated in 1950 from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence, Kan., and in 1955 from the University of Kansas.
She married
Dr. Dana Hanford on April 4, 1954, in Lawrence.
She was a teacher at Charles Wilkes Elementary School for 16 years, retiring in 1984.
She enjoyed literature and music.
She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert and Dana of Bainbridge Island; a sister, Caitlin Hanford of Toronto, Canada; a brother, Robert Mason Jr. of Fairfax, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Ruth Thue Martin
Ruth Anita Thue Martin, 77, of Kingston died Feb. 6, 2001, in Edmonds.
She was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Seattle to William and Clara Abbes. She graduated in 1942 from Queen Anne High School in Seattle.
She married
Martin Thue in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1961.
She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and enjoyed boating.
She was Lutheran.
Survivors include two sons, William of Snohomish and Robert of Edmonds; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. today at Evergreen Washelli Chapel in Seattle. Entombment will take place at Evergreen Washelli cemetery.
Dottie Brown
Former Kingston resident Dorothy Elizabeth "Dottie" Brown, 88, of Edmonds died of leukemia Jan. 27, 2001, at the Edmonds Rehabilitation and Care Center.
She was born June 22, 1912. She lived most of her life in Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, and a son, Steve.
Mrs. Brown enjoyed painting landscapes and flowers. She was a member of the Kingston Garden Club.
She is survived by a cousin, Virginia Stebbins of North Hollywood, Calif.
Helene Leighty
Helene Marguerite Leighty, 80, of Poulsbo died Feb. 5, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born May 14, 1920, in Williamsburg, Iowa, to Glen and Ida (Fasbeck) Leighty.
She earned her teaching degree from Kent State University in Ohio.
She served as a Navy WAC from 1942 to 1945. She was a machinist's mate and central tower operator.
She was a school teacher for 15 years, retiring in 1989.
Survivors include three sisters, Joanne Rodericks, Doris Fosbeck and Elaine Hillier, all from Poulsbo.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Martha & Mary Care Center.
Allen Venable
Former Bremerton resident Allen Parmania Venable, 84, of Tacoma died following an illness Feb. 4, 2001, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born May 10, 1916, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to William H. and Agnes C. (Hill) Venable. He graduated in 1934 from Northwestern High School in Detroit, Ill., and also received advanced technical training in Detroit.
He married
Pereditha E. Wright on Sept. 4, 1938, in Detroit. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. Venable was a master tool and die maker with Bundy Tubing in Warren, Mich., for 46 years. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Elks in Michigan and was an amateur billiards player. He was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, Allen of Detroit; two daughters, Rossalind Venable Woodhouse of Tahuya and Victoria Venable Fletcher of Port Orchard; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Rochelle Johnson, and two brothers, William and H. Phillip.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., both at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church at 902 Park Ave., in Bremerton. Interment
will be at Westlawn cemetery in Wayne, Mich. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Opal Smith
Opal A. Smith, 93, of Port Orchard died Feb. 2, 2001, at home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1907, in Bronson, Iowa, to Otto and Ora (Shepard) Kellar.
She attended school in South Dakota.
She married
Harold Smith who preceded her in death in 1975.
She enjoyed needlework and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Otto Sibley of Port Orchard and Irvin Sibley of Newberg, Ore.; two sisters, Pearl Byrd-Mitchell of South Dakota and Vodia Johnson of Aumsville, Ore.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Herbert, and a grandson.
At her request, no service will be held.
Rueben Knodel
Rueben Knodel, 81, of Bremerton died Jan. 27, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1919, in Hague, N.D., to Andrew and Louise (Schneider) Knodel.
He attended school in Isabel, S.D.
He served in the Army, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He earned the Bronze Arrowhead, Belgian Fourragre, Good Conduct Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
He worked in Shop 917 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 27 years, retiring in 1973.
He enjoyed bingo and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Rueben Gremillion of Port Orchard and Ron Gremillion of Bremerton; nine brothers, Walter of Spottsylvania, Va., Floyd of Garrison, N.D., Ray and Darrell, both of Isabel, Norbert of Edmonds, Ervin of Lead, S.D., Donald of Mobridge, S.D., Earl of Dayton, Ohio, and Herman of Galt, Calif.; two sisters, Pearl Mueller and Delores Rempfer, both of Kent; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Harold, John and Herbert.
At his request, no service will be held.

Valentine Schmidt
Valentine J. Schmidt, 78, of Silverdale died Feb. 6, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 7, 1922, in Dickinson, N.D., to Jacob and Rose (Roshau) Schmidt.
He married
Anne Kralicek on Aug. 13, 1942, in Dickinson.
He was a commercial construction superintendent for 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed talking with stock market brokers and working on computers.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Schmidt was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronald of Seabeck; two brothers, Daniel Smith of Sheridan, Wyo., and James Smith of Miles City, Mont.; a sister, Eleanor Price of Missoula, Mont.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Rash of Orange, Texas.
A rosary is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Parish. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Lee Petronelli
Lee L. Petronelli, 88, of Port Orchard died Feb. 6, 2001, at Tacoma Lutheran Home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Boulder, Colo., to Rocky and Mary (Brangrazzi) Petronelli.
He married
Emlu May in 1942 in Seattle. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a truck driver in the logging industry for 15 years, and later at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1980 after 32 years.
He enjoyed gardening and drawing.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, Paul of San Jose, Calif., and Mike of Tacoma; a sister Laura LaGradia of Denver; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
