Dorothy Brott
Dorothy Lois Brott, 73, of Bremerton died of heart failure Feb. 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 13, 1927, in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada, to Arthur and Harriet Goulding. She graduated in 1945 from Bremerton High School.
She married
Don Brott on June 7, 1946, in Bremerton.
Dorothy worked for various local doctors and also worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport.
She was a member of the Junior Women's League and was a YMCA swim team coach. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Bob of Bremerton; three daughters, Donna Ahearn of Bremerton, Claudia Fast of Woodinville and Marilyn Ritchie of Port Orchard; a brother, Arthur Goulding of Seattle; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bea Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Association, Cancer Society, YMCA, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Cyprian Wyatt
Cyprian Douglas Wyatt, 84, of Seabeck died Feb. 7, 2001, at Silverdale Alterra Care Center.
He was born May 27, 1916, in Holly to Arthur and Laura Wyatt.
He attended school in Silverdale and graduated in 1933.
He married
Sheila Duff on Jan. 6, 1940, in Bremerton.
He was a machinist.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn of Twisp and Lee of Bremerton; a brother, Stephen of Holly; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Warren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Betty Schifino
Ernette "Betty" Schifino, 67, of Bremerton died Feb. 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 11, 1933, in Hanson, Mass., to Clarence and Ruth (Montague) Warwick.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a volunteer for the blind.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond; three sons, Earl of New York, David of Deland, Fla., and Bruce of Bunnell, Fla.; four daughters, Antoinette Schifino of Bremerton, Cynthia Cox of Brockton, Mass., Donna Sturgill of Ohio and Ruth Vigliotti of Florida.; three sisters, Ruth, Lorraine and Mary Pierce; and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation is planned from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation with inurnment will take place at Melrose cemetery in Brockton, Mass.
Ruth Peif
Ruth Virginia Peif, 79, of Port Orchard died Feb. 6, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born June 7, 2001, in Kansas to Herman and Lydia (Nuss) Karst.
She married
Daniel Peif in Gardena, Calif., on May 18, 1955. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She managed the Dal Rae Restaurant for 35 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of the Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bill Leonard of Fountain Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Clarke of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard Leonard, and a brother, Clarence Karst.

Marion Walker
Former Port Orchard resident Marion F. Walker, 62, of Laurel, Mont., died in an automobile accident near Buffalo, Wyo., on Jan. 21, 2001.
She was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Bellingham to Earl and Doris LaFond.
She married
Robert "Red" Walker on Dec. 24, 1954, in Coquille, Ore. He preceded her in death July 4, 1995.
Mrs. Walker enjoyed traveling and painting.
Survivors include her four children, Cindy Perez of Tempe, Ariz., Susan Deakins of Juneau, Alaska, Kelly Reitler of Laurel and Kerry Garret of Port Orchard; a brother, Raymond LaFond of Goldendale; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Jan. 27 at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel.
Michael Dang
Cuong "Michael" Dang, 36, of Bainbridge Island died Feb. 2, 2001, in Alaska.
He was born June 12, 1964, in Vietnam. He graduated in 1983 from Olympic High School.
He married
Khung Lam on Sept. 5, 1989, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Dang was a fishing net builder for 15 years. At the time of his death, he was a deck hand aboard a fish processing boat in Alaska.
He enjoyed fishing and being a father. He was a Buddhist.
Survivors include his wife and one son, Andy.
Visitation is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island. A graveside service is planned for noon Sunday at Seabold cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
Dorothy Hansen
Dorothy M. Hansen, 74, of Silverdale died from complications of leukemia Feb. 4, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Newport to Steven and Mitzie (Broten) Freshman. She graduated in 1944 from Newport High School.
She married
George A. Hansen on Aug. 18, 1956, in Spokane.
Mrs. Hansen had worked with computers at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 14 years.
She also was an Avon representative for 25 years.
She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly and Kitsap Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dan of Tacoma; two daughters, Randa Ahlborn of Port Orchard and Ruth Taylor of Kona, Hawaii; a brother, James Freshman of Blanchard, Idaho; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Freshman.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at Kitsap Lake Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Roy Johnson
Roy B. Johnson, 90, of Port Orchard died from complication of a recent stroke Jan. 28, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 20, 1910, in Olalla to Ben and Amelia (Nelson) Johnson. He graduated in 1929 from South Kitsap Union High School.
He married
Maxine Swietzer at Long Lake in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1988.
He was a logger in the Hood Canal area and had owned the historical log cabin on Sidney Avenue in Port Orchard. Mr. Johnson later was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 23 years, retiring in 1970.
He is survived by a stepson, Joseph Gary Chamberlin of Port Orchard.
Mr. Johnson will be inurned at Fraola cemetery in Olalla. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Hila Whitson
Hila Inez Whitson, 92, of Port Orchard died Feb. 3, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Woodstock, Iowa, to Warren and Bertha (Stipp) Smalley.
She married
Robert Hiram Whitson. He preceded her in death in 1975.
Mrs. Whitson was a member of Wenas Grange in Selah.
Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine Rystrom of Westport, S.D., Barbara Peterson of Selah and Juanita Talmadge of Port Orchard; 13 grand-children; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to a public library.
Gary Ellinger
Gary Errol Ellinger, 57, of Bremerton died of cancer Feb. 3, 2001, at home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Chaffee, Mo.
He married
Georgia Hernandez in Reno.
He worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Hazel Arondale of Arkansas; two sons, Gilbert Ellinger of Riverside, Calif., and Michael Sanchez of Boise, Idaho; five daughters, Christine Cichy and Patricia Marin, both of Riverside, Marcella Borchers and Monica Sanchez, both of Bremerton, and Marie Sanchez of Gig Harbor; two brothers, Larry and Joe; and 20 grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Phillip Hardie
Phillip L. Hardie, 63, of Grapeview died of heart failure Jan. 30, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.
He was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Fairmount, N.D., to Phillip J. and Opal (Gowin) Hardie.
He graduated from Shelton High School.
On Oct. 30, 1958, he married
Linda Todd in Grapeview.
He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960. Later, he was a nuclear electrical general foreman at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 18 years, retiring in 1992.
He joined the Grapeview volunteer fire department in 1961, retiring as chief 25 years later. He also served on the local school board in Grapeview for 12 years.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; one son, Brian of Shelton; two daughters, Debbie Eaton of Shelton and Teresa Metz of Seabeck; one brother, David of Shelton; one sister, Vivian Stephens of Olympia; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Mae Page.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Hope Chapel in Shelton. Arrangements are under the direction of McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.
