Beulah Rutherford
Beulah Adeline Rutherford, 86, of Bremerton died Jan. 14, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Sedalia, Mo., to Clarence and Lula (Greer) Taylor. She received her education in Colorado. She graduated in 1934 from Greeley High School and attended college in Denver.
She married
Leonard Rutherford on May 4, 1936 in Greeley. He preceded her in death in 1990.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed baseball and church. She was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include a son, Lenny of Port Orchard; five daughters, Liz Hoffman of Brinnon, Bonnie Lund of Allyn, Betty Backs of Seabeck, Bev Rood of Silverdale and Teresa Smith of Bremerton; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service is planned.
Lee Saunders
Leonora G. "Lee" Saunders, 77, of Bremerton died Jan. 15, 2001, at Northwest Regional Hospital in Tukwilla.
She was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Ogalalla, Neb., to John and Gertie (Eveland) Schwin. She graduated in 1941 from Sandpoint High School in Sandpoint, Idaho.
She married
Gernie G. "Sandy" Saunders on Feb. 21, 1946, in Sandpoint.
She served in the Marine Corp during WWII, achieving the rank of private 1st class and earning the American Theater award.
She was a bookkeeper for the American Legion Post No. 149 for 23 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 149 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5.
She is survived by her husband; a son John of Silverdale; three daughters, Linda Saunders of Bainbridge Island, Jean Sweitzer Kucenski of Bremerton and Elizabeth "Beth" Foley of Henderson, N.V.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Floyd and Norris; and a sister, Sarah Hart.
Private services will be held at Ivy Green Cemetary under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.

June Anderson
June Rehfield Anderson, 88, of Silverdale died Jan. 16, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1912, in Miles City, Mont., to Henry and Gertrude (Gullick) Rehfield.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Iowa, in 1930, and received her associate's degree in 1932 from Stephens College of Columbia, Mo., her bachelor's degree in
1935 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a master's degree in library science in 1938 from the University of Illinois.
She married
C. Kenneth Anderson in 1940 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a librarian for many years in Iowa.
She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and
the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter B.
She was a member of the Methodist Church of Bloomfield.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Lou Gilfillan of Poulsbo.
Services will be held in Bloomfield. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Bill Emery
William "Bill" Emery, 83, died Jan. 15, 2001, at his Bremerton residence.
He was born Feb. 3, 1917 in Rossland, B.C., Canada, to Thomas and Lillie (Degg) Emery.
He graduated in 1936 from high school in Oroville.
He served in the Army from 1942 to 1948, achieving the rank of corporal.
He was an ordnance man at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor for 22 years, retiring in 1970.
He enjoyed sports and was a Pee Wee coach for baseball and basketball for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas, in 1979.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Brett Davison
Brett J. Davison, 51, of Burley died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle as a result of burns received in a welding accident Jan. 2 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on Jan. 13, 2001.
He was born Jan. 27, 1949, in Tacoma to Kenneth and Ruth (LaPoint) Davison.
He was a welder at PSNS for 25 years.
He enjoyed hunting and working on antique cars.
Survivors include two brothers, Dwight Davison of Pasco and Rodney Whitaker of France; and a sister, Joan Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bremerton Eagles hall at Sixth Street and Washington Avenue. Parking will be available on Sixth Street.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Ray Hendrickson
Former Bremerton resident Ray S. Hendrickson, 87, of Dupont died Jan. 16, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1913, in Hillspring, Alberta, Canada, to William and Alvaretta (Shaffer) Hendrickson. He later moved to Bremerton, and on Feb. 13, 1971, he married
Patti Serry in Bremerton.
Mr. Hendrickson served 20 years in the Navy, was a Pearl Harbor survivor and achieved the rank of chief petty officer.
He later was a civil servant, retiring in 1970.
He enjoyed flying and amateur radio, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Longbrake of Port Orchard; three daughters, Beth Logan of Seattle, Mary Ricco of Dupont and Petty Reece of Bremerton; three sisters, Margaret Allen and Mary Ellen Jederberg of LaGrande, Ore., and Helen Garrett of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at noon Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Ric Gourley
Richard "Ric" Gourley, 49, of Bremerton died Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 27, 1951, in Chicago to Rex and Helen (Glavin) Gourley. Mr. Gourley graduated in 1969 from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Ill.
He married
Diane M. Newby on Sept. 6, 1997, in Bremerton.
He was a machinist and rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years.
His hobbies included baseball and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Helen of Villa Park; three sons, Aaron Gourley of Poulsbo, Baylon Gourley of Silverdale and Ethan Newby-Gourley of Bremerton; a daughter, Skana of Poulsbo; two brothers, Patrick of Chicago and Matthew of Villa Park; a sister, Christine McHugh of Chicago; and his ex-wife, Sharon (Weimer) Gourley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth, in 1996.
A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Fellowship Church in Silverdale. An open house will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Gourley home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Marjorie Wheeler
Marjorie Wheeler, 73, of Silverdale died Jan. 12, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Alameda, Calif., to Phillip and Thelma Lanzit. She graduated from Alameda High in 1948.
She married
Ralph A. Wheeler Jr. in Compton, Calif.
Mrs. Wheeler was an Avon representative for 30 years.
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ralph A. III of Clifton, Texas, Jerry of Bremerton and Marty of Shelton; a daughter, Tammy Thacker of San Jose, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee Funeral Home of Bremerton.
Jack Murphy
Jack C. Murphy, 83, of Poulsbo died Jan. 10, 2001, at his residence.
He was born
Nov. 16, 1917, in Detroit to Eugene and Marian (Smith) Murphy.
He married
Mary Jane Flood on Oct. 17, 1970, in Poulsbo.
Mr. Murphy graduated from high school in Milwaukee in 1935. He earned college credits through the Army.
He served in the Army for more than 20 years, retiring in 1961. He achieved the rank of major in the Army, served in World War II and Korean and was awarded a Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart. He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Mr. Murphy enjoyed reading and was a member of the Sons of Norway. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael P. Murphy of Seattle, Martin Murphy of Lakewood and Robert Trepanier of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Patricia Mortimeyer of Aberdeen; a sister, Irene Haberland of Poulsbo; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John C. Murphy Jr., in 1977.
A memorial service was held Jan. 15 at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo, with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory. Arrangements were under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary The Stone Chapel.

Paul Hendy
Paul Hendy, 54, of Center died of amyotropic lateral sclerosis Jan. 9, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 17, 1946, in Cincinnati to Harry and Margaret Hendy.
He married
Catherine White on April 20, 1977.
Mr. Hendy was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1970. He attained the rank of specialist 4 and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was a sawyer and operated Gerard West Sawmill in Center. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Margaret, of Cincinnati; a son, Dylan Paul of Center; a daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Hendy of Center; four brothers, Harry, Dan, Jerry and Jeff, all of Cincinnati; and three sisters, Joann Hendy, Carole Polychroniou and Patricia Bowling, all of Cincinnati.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Port Townsend.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kosec Funeral Home and cemetery.
