Vern Barg
Vern B. Barg, 80, of Bremerton died Jan. 6, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Kennewick to Edwin and Alice (Krautwurm) Barg.
He attended high school in Bremerton.
He married
Sadie Langley on Aug. 31, 1946.
He was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 35 years, retiring in 1974.
He enjoyed volunteering at the Kitsap County Fair, doing woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ed of Bremerton; two daughters, Dixie Barth of Chimacum and Tracy Brown of Poulsbo; a sister, Willa Follett of Tacoma; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Barg.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue or the Kitsap County Humane Society.
Pauline Hansen
Pauline Hansen, 78, of Bremerton died Jan. 7, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Porum, Okla., to Edgar and Maggie Waner. She attended Caldwell High School in Caldwel, Idaho.
She married
Donald Arthur Hansen on July 3, 1945, in Kent. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She enjoyed camping and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Juneau, Alaska, and Larry of Seattle; two daughters, Geneva Knutson of Woodland and Sherry McFall of Silverdale; a brother, Howard Waner of Meridian, Idaho; four sisters, Geneva Shorb of Boise, Idaho, Adeline Kim of Woodinville, Fern Boebert of Lincoln City, Ore., and Cleta Patrick of Boise; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Autis, Charlie, Jerome and Haden Waner.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bremerton Fire Department.
Emmitt Taylor
Emmitt "Buck" Taylor, 71, died Jan. 7, 2001, at his Port Orchard residence.
He was born March 10, 1929, in Hainsville, La., to John and Gussie (Meadows) Taylor. He graduated from high school in Detroit in 1947.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Taylor was a self-employed evergreen harvester.
He loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Earlean; a son, Emmitt Jr. of Walla Walla; two daughters, Janice Allen of Tacoma and Tina Thomas of Columbia, S.C.; eight stepchildren; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Sunnyslope Grange at 4:30 p.m. following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Betty Sinclair
Betty Ann Sinclair, 59, of Bremerton died Dec. 11, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Riverside, Calif., to Earl and Verna Lee (Barton) Chostner. She attended high school in California, graduating in 1959. She was a 1971 graduate of Olympic College.
She was a caseworker for the Department of Social and Health Services for 29 years, retiring in 1999. She received numerous achievement awards during her tenure.
She was a sports fan and loved bingo. She enjoyed humor and collected jokes and puns over the years.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry and Richard of Port Orchard; two brothers, Gilbert Chostner and John Hubert of California; a sister, Shirley Nelson of California; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Sinclair, in 1963.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon Saturday at Unity Church, 1712 Trenton Ave., Bremerton.
A celebration of life will be follow the memorial at the home of the Richard Sinclair Family, 7134 Schweitzer Place SW, Port Orchard.
Walter Paterson
Walter Dan Paterson, 81, of Bainbridge Island died Dec. 30, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge near Silverdale.
He was born April 8, 1919, in Seattle to Walter and Ina (Miller) Paterson. He graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle in 1937, and from the University of Washington in 1941.
Mr. Paterson served in the Army from 1941 to 1946, earning the rank of major.
He married
Dorothy Dahl on Sept. 11, 1946.
Mr. Paterson spent 48 years as a consulting geologist.
He enjoyed fishing and backpacking.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew of Federal Way; three daughters, Bonnie Schandorf of Virginia, Minn., Karen Paterson of Kingston and Kathryn Paterson of Bremerton; and three grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.

Solly Stroh
Solly Stroh, 80, of Bremerton, died of heart failure Jan. 4, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Wapato to Henry and Katrina (Rehn) Stroh. He was a 1939 graduate of Wapato High School.
He married
Verda Lillehaug on Feb. 27, 1943, in Bremerton.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
He worked at Puget Sound Navel Shipyard for 30 years first as a boat builder, then as a progressman, retiring in 1971.
He enjoyed building boats and fishing.
Mr. Stroh was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Gray and Linda Smith both of Bremerton; a brother, Fred of Gig harbor; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Ina McGrew
Ina Knight McGrew, 82, of Port Orchard died Dec. 31, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1918, in Marion, Ohio, to Othal and Emma (Kirkendahl) Moore.
She graduated from high school in Hamilton, Mont.
On March 10, 1985, she married
Francis L. McGrew in Port Orchard. He preceded her death in 1994.
Mrs. McGrew was a bookkeeper for various companies before her retirement in 1963.
She enjoyed geneology and was a member of the First Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her survivors include a daughter, Winnie Stephens of Quilcene; and a sister, Jane Tilman of Minden, Nev.
There will be no services. Inurnment will take place in Marion, Ohio. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home.

Dorothy Elva Seamans, 82, of Bremerton died Dec. 26, 2000, at Later Years Adult Family Home in Silverdale.
She was born April 10, 1918, near Casper, Wyo., to Arthur and Julia Lane.
She married
Robert "Bud" Seamans in 1936 in Snohomish.
Mrs. Seamans enjoyed reading and wintering in Mexico and Yuma, Ariz.
Survivors include her husband of Silverdale; three sons, Robert Jr., Victor and Richard; a brother, Arthur Lane of Wenatchee; two sisters, Gladys Straton of Elma and Mable Wright of Spokane; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services.

Dorothy Elva Seamans, 82, of Bremerton died Dec. 26, 2000, at Later Years Adult Family Home in Silverdale.

John Logan
John Wesley Logan III, 12, died as a result of an accident at his home Dec. 24, 2000, in Borex, Switzerland.
He was born July 31, 1988, in Fairfax, Va., to former Port Orchard residents John and Randi (Gruenhagen) Logan.
He attended East Court School in England.
He enjoyed many sports, swimming, soccer, skiing and karate.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his parents; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Logan of Annapolis, Md.; and maternal grandmother, Mildred Gruenhagen of Port Orchard.
Services were held in Switzerland.
