Helen Ilott
Helen G. Ilott, 63, of Belfair died Feb. 3, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1938, in Bremerton to William and Clara (Morgan) Bresnahan. She was a 1955 graduate of Bremerton High School.
She received her bachelor's degree in education in 1960 and her master's degree in education in 1967, both from Western Washington University. Her doctorate in educational psychology was completed in 1987 at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She was a Master Gardener.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at North Mason United Methodist Church, 25140 NE State Route 3 in Belfair.

GiGi Thornton
Gregg Louise "GiGi" Thornton, 41, of Bainbridge Island died following an illness Jan. 31, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Burien to Horace Edward and Helen Marie (Roth) Thornton Jr. She graduated from high school in 1979 in Honolulu.
She loved animals and owned four cats, McStuff, Scrappy, Lilly and Cosmo. She also enjoyed homemaking, cooking and decorating.
Survivors include her companion, Steve Tarabochia; and three sisters, Melody Gurney of Sherman, Conn., and Robin Beaudry and Kim Chakoian, both of Federal Way.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Filipino Hall, 7566 High School Road, Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.

Nathalie Jensen
Nathalie Nadine Jensen, 82, of Poulsbo died Feb. 5, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Stanwood to Adolf and Audree Nielsen. She graduated from Stanwood High School.
She married
Edward Jensen. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Jensen enjoyed Bible study and crafts.
Survivors include three sons, Ron of Minnesota and Steve and Bruce, both of Poulsbo; two daughters, Joyce Breum of Poulsbo and Gayle Taylor of Chesaw; a brother, Gerald Nelson of Bellingham; three sisters, Wanda Brooks of Bellingham, and Pat Norgaard and Rosalee Hargrove, both of Stanwood; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; and three brothers, Laverne, Cecil and Wayne.
Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Charles West
Charles O. West, 70, of Tahuya died of cancer Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Aitkin, Minn., to Oscar E. and Nellie (Jones) West. He was educated in Puyallup.
He married
Merna L. Looker on Aug. 16, 1957, in Tacoma.
Mr. West worked in construction and retired from Ace Paving in 1994.
He enjoyed his family, fishing and especially time spent at Wooten Lake where he made his home the past two years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Guy and his wife Pennye and Terry and his wife Linda, all of Port Orchard; four daughters, Rena Sullivan and her husband, Wayne, of SeaTac, Cheri Bracale and her husband, Carl, of Gig Harbor, Gayle West and her companion, Bill Olson, of Tacoma, and Tina Kiehn and her husband, Rick, of Puyallup; three brothers, Wesley and Wayne West, both of Tacoma, and Shirley Porter of New Hope, Ky.; three sisters, Ilene Froelich of Tacoma, Mae Wolvert of Sumner and Agnes Glines of Sequim; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Porter.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Mt. View Funeral Home (Valley Chapel), 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., in Tacoma. Private interment will be at Mt. View Memorial Park in Tacoma.

Stanley Hoyecki
Former Port Orchard resident Stanley Hoyecki, 77, of Yuma, Ariz., died Jan. 22, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Somerset, Pa.
Mr. Hoyecki served in the Navy and worked in civil service for 34 years. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electronics technician.
Survivors include his wife, Belva; two sons, Stanley of Renton and Gael of San Diego; a daughter, Patti Hoyecki of Oregon; a brother, David of California; two sisters, Genevieve and Irene, both of New York; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation was under the direction of Kammann Mortuary in Yuma. A graveside memorial service will be held later at the Veterans Administration cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.
Bernice Bull
Bernice C. Bull, 89, of Belfair died Feb. 5, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born July 27, 1912, in Silverdale to Charles and Lillian (Peterson) Ekstedt. She attended Central Kitsap High School.
She married
Eugene Bull in August 1930 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Bull was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery and crochet.
She is survived by a sister, Lillian Smith of Alabama.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Mona Robison
Burial for former Kitsap County resident Mona Althea (Grevstad) Robison will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fraola cemetery in Olalla. Mrs. Robison died Jan. 7, 2002. A tribute for her was published Jan. 10 in The Sun.
Betts Harris
Betty A. "Betts" Harris, 67, of Port Orchard died of cancer Feb. 5, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Yatesboro, Pa., to John and Wilda (Hollis) Harris. She graduated in 1952 from Palmer High School in Palmer, Ark.
She was a homemaker. She loved her family and was known for her hospitality. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, Jim Scott of Port Orchard; three daughters, Lana Combs and Glenda Scott, both of Port Orchard, and Wendy White of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Donald Harris; three sisters, Marilyn Ehmann of Colorado, Donna Magnussen of Vermont and Wilda Boggs of Arkansas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Harland Olmsted
Harland Page Olmsted, 83, of Bremerton died Feb. 4, 2002, of a respiratory disease at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 22, 1918, in Monona, Iowa, to Phineas LeGrande and Lydia Mae (Arnold) Olmsted. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Omaha, Neb., in 1936.
He married
Alberta Louise Ball on Oct. 6, 1940, in Olympia.
Mr. Olmsted worked in management with J.C. Penney Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member and past president of the Chief Kitsap Lions Club and Bremerton Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Edgar "Skip" Olmsted of Port Orchard, Paul Leland Olmsted of Silverdale and Anthony Laurence Olmsted of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil M. Olmsted, a son, Timothy LeGrande Olmsted and a grandson, Jason LeGrande Olmsted.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Bremerton Church of the Nazarene, 924 Sheridan in East Bremerton.

Edna Wardall
Edna Marie Wardall, 92, of Bremerton died Jan. 30, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 5, 1909, in Yakima to Fred and Gertrude (Stevenson) Brown. She graduated with honors from Wapato High School in Wapato in 1927 and later attended business college in Yakima.
She married
Marshall R. Wardall on Feb. 23, 1936, in Wapato. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Wardall had been employed as an executive secretary with the National Bank of Commerce in Yakima and at a savings and loan company in Reno, Nev. She had also worked as a real estate agent in Lakewood.
When her husband was Justice of the Peace in Ponders Corner, she ran the state office and later managed the office for the family insurance business.
Mrs. Wardall was a longtime member of the Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Wardall of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; one daughter, Sharon "Cherie" Erickson of Bremerton; one brother, Don Brown of Yakima; three sisters, Lela Boucher of Yakima and Betty Kechley and Billie Lee, both of Seattle; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fraser Brown of Yakima.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date to celebrate Mrs. Wardall's Christian life.
May Howell
Ermelinda "May" Howell, 89, of Port Orchard died Feb. 1, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a Port Orchard resident for over 20 years.
She was born July 7, 1912, at the American Embassy in Colima, Mexico, to Richard M. and Hermelinda (Soto) Stadden.
She married
Guillermo Howell. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Howell worked as credit and finance manager for a concrete construction company.
She loved her family and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. Her interests included reading and cooking and she was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Montalvo and her husband Art of Port Orchard; one son, Stanley Howell of Penngrove, Calif.; six grandchildren, Cynthia Montalvo of Belfair, Art Montalvo of Olalla and Debbie, Donna, Mark and Jay, all of California; and great-grandchildren, David, Brandon, Michael and Rebekah Montalvo, all of Olalla, and numerous others in California.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor.

James Baldwin
Former Silverdale resident James J. Baldwin, 77, of Seattle died Jan. 21, 2002, in Seattle.
He was born July 3, 1924, in Fairbault, Minn., to Wood M. and Margaret (Bruestle) Baldwin. He grew up in Silverdale, graduating from Silverdale High School in 1942. He was also among the first graduates of Olympic College in 1949 and later a graduate of Western Washington University (1951).
Mr. Baldwin had worked at the Keyport Naval Torpedo Station prior to serving as a medic in Germany with the United States Army Cavalry from 1943 to 1945 and achieving the rank of corporal. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Following his military career, he became an elementary school teacher. He taught at Tracyton Elementary School for 29 years, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne (Klingensmith) Baldwin; one daughter, Teri Michel of Jackson, Wyo.; stepchildren, MaryAllene and John Klingensmith and Lori Meldrum; two grandchildren, Shannon and Andrew; and his former wife, Beverly (Quimby) Baldwin. He was preceded in death by a son, Woodie, and by brothers, Bunky and Vic.
At his request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made to Alzheimer's research, cancer research or to a charity of the donor's choice.
