Robert Olson
Robert William Olson, 78, of Silverdale died Feb. 4, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 23, 1923, in Tacoma to Wilhelm and Lois (Person) Olson. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1941.
He married
Mildred Jones in Bremerton in 1941. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Olson served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct and the World War II Victory Medal.
Following his military career, he worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 36 years, retiring in 1978 as a general foreman.
He enjoyed traveling and history.
Survivors include one son, Michael Olson of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Margaret Ollenburger of Bremerton and Bobbe Daugherty of Silverdale; one sister, Peggy Ernst of Edmonds; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John, and a daughter, Judy.
A gathering for family and friends is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Naomi Blake
Naomi Emma Blake, 76, of Port Orchard died Jan. 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Oklahoma to John Claude and Myrtle Emma (Harvey) Duffy.
She had worked in hotel and motel housekeeping, retiring as a manager.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and was an active supporter of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include one son, John E. Pearson and his wife Teresita of Port Orchard; one daughter, Nancy E. Mort and her husband Dennis of Redding, Calif.; one brother, Leo Duffy and his wife Fern of Dale City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Duffy; her first husband, Jessie Earl Pearson in 1969; and her second husband, Leonard Blake in 1984.
Burial will be in Redding. Visitation will take place at a later date, also in Redding. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton and McDonald's Mortuary in Redding.

James Burnett
James C. Burnett, 75, of Silverdale died of cancer Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Wilburton, Okla., to John and Ann (Perdue) Burnett. He graduated in 1944 from Vallejo High School in Vallejo, Calif., and had attended Colorado University in Boulder.
He married
Wilma J. Mattson on Jan. 1, 1952, in Denver.
Mr. Burnett was a civil engineering technician for 30 years in California, retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed flying and playing the piano.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, James Jr. and Mark, both of Bremerton, William of Beaverton, Ore., and Ted of Poulsbo; a daughter, Jeanine Oswald of Kingston; two brothers, Charles of San Jose, Calif., and Paul of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the noon funeral service Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Daniel Roloff
Daniel L. Roloff, 91, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Jan. 31, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born May 8, 1910, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Simon and Matilda (Reich) Roloff. He graduated from high school in Odessa and attended college in Cheney.
He married
Margaret Jacobson in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1988.
Mr. Roloff was a store owner and postmaster in Lamona for more than 35 years before retiring.
He volunteered at Harrison Hospital and with Peace Lutheran School, both in Bremerton. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by a brother, Harold of Cheney. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Matthew Fredricks
Matthew William Fredricks, 8, died Jan. 31, 2002 at home in Hansville.
He was born May 7, 1993 in Bremerton to Robert W. and Susan R. (Agee) Fredricks.
He was a third-grade student at Vinland Elementary School.
He liked wheelchairs and fire trucks.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, April Fredricks of Olympia; grandparents Robert Agee of Coos Bay, Ore., and Pat Fredricks of Hansville.
He was preceded in death by an older brother, Robert "Bobby" M.H. Fredricks, in 1999.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hansville Church with burial to follow in the Hansville cemetery.

Donna Pachal
Donna Marie Pachal, 67, of Yelm died of ovarian cancer Jan. 30, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Madison, Wis., to James M. and Elizabeth (Jeffries) Clayton. She graduated from high school in Madison.
She married
Richard F. Pachal in Gardenia, Calif. They were later divorced.
From 1951 to 1954, she served in the Air Force, advancing to noncommissioned officer.
Her interests included gardening, sewing, knitting, quilting, animals and caring for the elderly.
She is survived by her former husband of Montana; two sons, Robert of Yelm and Richard of Kent; two daughters, Cathy Karlson of Poulsbo and Margy Tvrdy of Wisall, Mont.; a brother, Steve Anderson of Madison; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
Joan Holfert
Former Bremerton resident Edna Joan Blaske Holfert, 58, of Corvallis, Ore., died of cancer Jan. 24, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. She had lived in Corvallis for the past five years.
She was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Bremerton to Ed and Helen Blaske. She graduated in 1961 from East High School in Bremerton and in 1966 from Western Washington University.
She married
Gale Holfert on Aug. 2, 1969, in Bremerton at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Holfert taught many years in public schools in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. She also taught Sunday school classes.
She was active with the Association of Retarded Citizens from 1979 to 1996 when she and her family lived in Kodiak, Alaska.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Max of Corvallis; two daughters, Annie Thompson and her husband Jared of Ashland, Ore., and Jody Holfert of Albany, Ore.; a brother, Don Blaske of Monroe; and one granddaughter, Jordan Bechner of Albany. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Blaske, of Arizona; and her parents.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2509 Perry Ave., in Bremerton. A graveside service will follow at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park with a reception at Oyster Bay Inn on Kitsap Way in Bremerton.
William Stevens
William M. Stevens, 87, of Silverdale died of natural causes Jan. 3, 2002, in Seattle.
He was born April 22, 1914, in Tacoma to Soren and Laura (Hauge) Stevens. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma.
On March 30, 1946, he married
Lorraine Hansler in Sumner.
Mr. Stevens was a machinist with Burlington and Northern Pacific railroads for 42 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Fern Hill Masonic Lodge No. 80 and Scottish Rite Bodies. He attended Tracyton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stanley and his wife, Sandy, of Poquoson, Va., and Mark and his wife, Vicki, of Colstrip, Mont.; a daughter, Laura Brezacek and her husband, Richard, of Tracyton; a sister, Marilyn Caldwell of Grapeview; 10 grandchildren, Andy, Lauren, Gretchen, Katy and Ryan Stevens, Franci Brezacek, Amy Jackson, Pat and Tim Lannon and Kathy James; three great-grandchildren, Brent, Emily and Sydney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Cerwenka and Phyllis Krokaa.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Gig Harbor United Methodist Church, with interment at Mountain View Funeral Home, A Memorial Park.

Edythe Sandberg
Edythe J. Sandberg, 86, of Bremerton died Jan. 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 11, 1915, in Minot, N.D., to John and Emma (Berg) Hojem.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Barney Wiggins, and her second husband, Orvo Sandberg.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sons of Norway.
She is survived by a companion, Art Aksdal of Bremerton; a son, Daniel Bruce Wiggins of Bremerton; a daughter, Patricia L. Plumb of Bremerton; a brother, Hilmer Taxdahl of Ferndale; two sisters, Alice Lambert of Bremerton and Ruth Langlois of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Kim Bushnell, Randy Plumb, Julie Norseth and Amy Norseth; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Palmer Hojem.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel, Pendleton Gilchrist Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Forest Lane cemetery in Bremerton.

Ronald Ellison
Ronald A. Ellison Sr., 63, of Port Orchard died Jan. 29, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 16, 1938, in Marion, N.D., to Albert and Mildred (Hansen) Ellison. He was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma and graduated in 1978 from City University in Silverdale.
Mr. Ellison served in the Army from 1956, retiring in 1976. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He achieved the rank of sergeant first class.
He later was a warehouseman at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor for 20 years.
Mr. Ellison enjoyed bowling and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; three sons, Ronald of Port Orchard, Raymond of Belfair and Richard of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Robin Kasper of Belfair; two brothers, Vernon of Yuma, Ariz., and Raymond of Unionville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service follows at 3 p.m., also at Rill Chapel. Interment
(without a service) will be at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.
