Orpha Cole
Orpha Marie Cole, 79, of Bremerton died Jan. 6, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 28, 1922, in Cumberland, Wis., to Oscar B. and Josephine Jacobson.
She married
William M. Cole on Nov. 21, 1940, in Grand Coulee. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Cole worked for City Hand Laundry in Bremerton for 22-1/2 years, retiring in 1983.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, completing crossword puzzles and participating in church activities. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in East Bremerton.
Survivors include three sons, Donald G. of Seattle, Norman L. of Montesano, and Thomas G. of Bremerton; a daughter, Linda M. (Cole) Duzenski of Bremerton; two sisters, Lorraine David of Bremerton and Esther Day of Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, William M. Jr.; three brothers, Clifford, Conrad and Norman Jacobson; and three sisters, Nelda Euteneier, Florence Belnap and Margaret Rolloff.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church. A church reception follows. Private interment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Elsie Nelson
Elsie Anna Marie Nelson, 94, of Port Orchard died Jan. 7, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born May 15, 1907, in Butterfield, Minn., to August and Minnie (Elting) Schwietert.
She married
Nelson S. Nelson on May 18, 1925, in Elk Point, S.D. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, Jack of Port Orchard; a stepdaughter, Virginia Hottinger of Wis.; and a brother, Carl Schwietert of Chicago; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are private. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Steven Pierre
Steven Sean Pierre Jr., 27, of Port Orchard died Jan. 4, 2002, following a car accident in Port Orchard.
He was born Aug. 20, 1974, in Spokane to Steven Nelson Pierre Sr. and Cuniwelia (Locust) Pierre. He graduated in 1992 from Cusick High School in Cusick and attended Olympic College.
Mr. Pierre enjoyed music and playing pool.
Survivors include his companion, Erica Lin Jackson of Port Ludlow; his mother, Cuniwelia (Locust) Pierre of Usk; his father, Steven Nelson Pierre Sr. of Spokane; one daughter, Ryean Renee Pierre of Usk; two brothers, Scott Michael of Spokane and Troy Anthony of Usk; and three sisters, Renee Allison Monkiewicz of Salem, Mass., Stephanie Louise Stoops of Port Orchard and Vanessa Anne Marion of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vital Pierre and Mary Andrews; and by his maternal grandparents, Joseph J. Blackwell and Nellie B. Locust.
A rosary was said Wednesday at Kalispel Community Center in Usk. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Usk. Interment
will be at Kalispel cemetery (No. 2) in Usk.

Irene Correll
Irene Nora Correll, 80, of Poulsbo died Jan. 7, 2002, at Martha and Mary Health Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Lenoir, N.C., to Simon Byrd Boston and Eliza (Secreast) Boston. She graduated from high school in Calwell County, N.C., and later earned an associate's degree.
She married
John Horace Correll on Sept. 23, 1939, in Martinsville, Va. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Correll was retired from a career as a licensed practical nurse. She enjoyed singing.
Survivors include three sons, Carroll of Virginia, Tyron of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Robin of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Delores L. Arntz of Deer Park, Wash., Rosalind M. Parnell of Valdosta, Ga., and Karen H. Wilke of Silverdale; two brothers, Eugene and Carroll Boston, both of Lenoir; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, John D. Correll, and six brothers and sisters.
Services will be held in Lenoir. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Arthur Odden
Arthur Conrad Odden, 90, of Poulsbo died Jan. 3, 2002, at Martha and Mary Health Center in Poulsbo.
He was born Dec. 13, 1911, in Poulsbo to Peter and Magda (Peterson) Odden. He graduated from Poulsbo's Union High School in 1929.
Mr. Odden served in the Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of technical sergeant fifth class. He was awarded several service medals for duty in the European and African theaters.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 13 years, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Odden enjoyed Mariners' baseball. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lutheran church.
Survivors include his sisters-in-law, Alice Odden of Poulsbo and Gladys Odden of Silverdale; nephews, Randy Odden of Poulsbo and Paul Odden of Las Vegas; and nieces, Candy Boyd of Poulsbo and Sherry Marti of Texas. He was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer, Melvin, Paul and Jalmer; and by a sister, Edna.
A graveside service will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Lily Carter
Lily M. Carter, 46, of Port Orchard died Jan. 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1955, in Everett to Frank and Margaret (Branch) Thomas. She grew up in Snohomish County.
She married
Nick Carter on Aug. 6, 1988, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Carter was a homemaker. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and an ombudsman for the USS Sacramento from 1996 to 1999.
Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Margaret and
L.W. Mooneyham of Port Orchard; two daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline and John Douglass of Jacksonville, N.C., and Ruth and James Boggs of Racine, Wis.; one brother, Frank C. Thomas Jr. of Seattle; four sisters, Peggy A. Whitaker of Arizona, Carrie Lynn Crawley of Richmond, Va., and Martha and June Thomas, both of Port Orchard; one stepsister, Tina Kennedy of Bremerton; and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
A memorial service will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Port Orchard Eagles. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Dorothy Jorstad
Dorothy Charlotte Jorstad, 87, of Port Orchard died Jan. 2, 2002, at Willow Creek Adult Family Home in Port Orchard.
She was born March 30, 1914, in Hood River, Ore., to Christian and Dorothea (Johnsen) Sonnichsen. She attended Waterville High School in Waterville, Wash.
She married
The Rev. Edwin Jorstad in August 1948.
Mrs. Jorstad had been employed as a secretary at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 20 years until her retirement. She also worked with her husband in support of his career as a pastor.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Stan Jorstad of Tahuya; two daughters, Carol Baarsma of Tacoma and Nancie Walls of Bremerton; one brother, John Sonnichsen of Prosser; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Lee Belas; by sisters, Agnes, Rose and Anne; and by brothers, Alex and Billy.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Russell Berg
Russell Berg, 75, of Hansville died Jan. 6, 2002, of heart failure in Edmonds.
He was born June 18, 1926, in Seattle to Gilbert and Carol Berg. He graduated from Ballard High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, in 1951.
Mr. Berg served in the Navy during World War II.
He and his wife, Esther, were married
on Nov. 24, 1951, in Everest, Kan.
He worked in the field of geriatrics for 40 years with the Edmonds Senior Center for 15 years and with Martha and Mary Health Center in Poulsbo for 25 years. He was retired.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven of Poulsbo and Allen Tigard, Ore.; one daughter, Gwen of Edmonds; one sister, Carolyn Lohman of Hansville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S in Edmonds. A memorial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 18354 Eighth Ave. NW in Shoreline.
Harold Vennes
Harold Wayne Vennes, 64, of Seattle, formerly of North Kitsap, died Dec. 21, 2001, of cancer in Seattle.
He was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Port Gamble to Harold and Evelyn (Whitney) Vennes. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1955.
He married
Audrey Satterwhite in April 1960 on Bainbridge Island. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Vennes lived for many years in Kingston and Poulsbo and worked as a commercial fisherman and at the Poulsbo Lockers. He was retired.
He was a former member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Vennes of Stanwood; one son, John of Tacoma; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Phil Leanderson of Belfair; one brother, Lee Vennes of Stanwood; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Reuben Land of Brinnon; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Art Vennes.
Services will be announced at a later date. At his request, his body was donated to the University of Washington for cancer research.
Prudy McPeek
Prudence Alber "Prudy" McPeek, 86, of Silverdale died Dec. 27, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Cambridge, Mass., to Theodore and Lavina (Smith) Alber. She graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1933.
She married
Charles Chadwick McPeek on Sept. 30, 1944, in Malden, Mass. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Mrs. McPeek was a secretary at Malibu Presbyterian Church in Malibu, Calif., for 18 years, retiring in 1983.
She enjoyed being involved in the life of her only grandchild, Chad McPeek Halligan. She also was an active volunteer in her church, Central Kitsap Presbyterian.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Alber McPeek of Silverdale; a half-sister, Charlotte Alber Price of Katonah, N.Y.; and her grandson. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Alber Martin of Arlington, Mass., and her brother, Walter Herman Alber of Northampton, Mass.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nels Nelson Road NW in Bremerton.

Elaine Kowalczyk
Elaine Kowalczyk, 78, of Belfair died Jan. 4, 2002, in Belfair.
She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Clinton, Mich., to Milton and Nina (Heck) Lohrstorfer. She graduated from high school and community college in Michigan.
She married
Frank Kowalczyk on Aug. 25, 1945, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She worked in the family business for several years. She belonged to many clubs, the PTA and was a volunteer ambulance driver.
She enjoyed her children's pets, which she affectionately referred to as her "grand dogs."
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, David of Marysville, Calif., and Jim of Snohomish; two daughters, Barbara Parnell of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Susan Kowalczyk of Twisp; two brothers, Jack Lohrstorfer of Battle Creek, Mich., and Joe Lohrstorfer of Roseville, Mich.; two sisters, Barbara Carter of Ellentown, Fla., and Agnes Bruno of New Port Richey, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the home of Denise Wynn Ogren in Allyn.
