Esther Jessup
Esther Hilfreda Jessup of Port Orchard died of natural causes Dec. 26, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born July 4, 1908, in Tracyton. She was a 1926 graduate of Central Kitsap High School and a 1928 graduate of business college in Bremerton.
She was a wife and mother. She was a telephone switchboard operator for three years in Silverdale.
She was a life member of Pythian Sisters and Ann Wilson Children's Orthopedic Guild. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald James Adkins of Port Orchard and Gary Dennis Adkins of Poulsbo; a sister, Lorraine Maria Harmon of York, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Aegil and Harold Peterson.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., also at the church. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

John White
John Douglas White, 89, of Bremerton died of cancer Dec. 29, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born in Seattle to William and Minnie (McDonald) White on Aug. 19, 1912.
He was a private first class in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. White later was a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1970 after more than 25 years.
He was a member of the VFW, Catholic War Veterans and was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
He is survived by a long-time friend, Hedy Kratz of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William, in 1988; and a sister, Marie Antoinete White, in 1920.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service and Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment
will be at Miller Woodlawn.

Floyd Smallbeck
Floyd Albert Smallbeck, 88, of Poulsbo died Dec. 30, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 17, 1913, in Rugh Township, N.D., to Albert and Minnie (Lukins) Smallbeck. He went to school through the eighth grade.
He married
Ella Marie Wheeler on June 5, 1938, in Grand Forks, N.D. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1993.
Mr. Smallbeck retired as a rigger from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a lifelong member of the Sons of Norway and a member of First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell of Kirkland and Bob of Auburn; a daughter, Marg of Poulsbo; two brothers, Leonard of Portland, Ore., and Verner of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Florence Eikum and Alice Tuson, both of Poulsbo; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Charles, Walter and Richard; and a sister, Frances Serwold.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Stone Chapel of Poulsbo. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Interment
will be at First Lutheran Church cemetery.

Helen Pflughoeft
Helen Margaret Pflughoeft, 89, of Seattle died Dec. 23, 2001, at Park Ridge Care Center in Seattle.
She was born May 30, 1912, in Lincoln, Kan., to Charles and Ida (Kanzius) Brown.
She was a cost accountant with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She was a Christian.
Survivors include a son, Larry E. of Seattle; and a daughter, Marlene Anderson and her husband, Andy, of Palm Springs, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1997, and three brothers.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Terry York
Terry Allan York, 56, of Bremerton died Dec. 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Bremerton to William and Laura (Carlson) York. He graduated in 1963 from Central Kitsap High School.
He served in the Army from 1963 to 1970. He graduated first in his boot camp class and achieved the rank of staff sergeant.
He later was a member of the Bremerton Police Department, retiring in 1990 as a sergeant, after 20 years.
He enjoyed fishing and model building.
Survivors include his parents of Bremerton; a son, Kevin of Silverdale; a daughter, Diana Kelley of Poulsbo; three brothers, Timothy of Seabeck, David of Buckley and Lauren of Bremerton; a sister, Melinda York of Tacoma; his former wife, Ingrid Israel of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren, Laura and McKenna Kelley.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Bob Burnside
Robert "Bob" Hawthorne Burnside, 58, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure Dec. 18, 2001, at home.
He was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Falkirk, Scotland, to Robert and Margaret (Lyons) Hawthorne. He was educated in Scotland, where he graduated from high school.
He was a member of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom in the 1960s.
He was a police constable in Ayshire for many years, retiring in 1991.
He was a Mason and enjoyed spending time with loved ones.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his fiancee, Jaroslava Beaubien of Bremerton; a son, Darryl of Oban, Scotland; three daughters, Leigh and Dayle Burnside, both of Scotland, and Sherry Smith of Bremerton; a sister, Carol Hargrave of Honiton, England; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Lodge at Fifth Street and Warren Avenue.

Iva Harvey
Iva M. Harvey, 82, of Poulsbo died of cancer Dec. 28, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Livermore, Calif., to Royal and Gertrude (Davis) Terry.
She married
William H. Harvey Sr. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing cards and having lunch with friends.
She was a Methodist.
Survivors include three sons, William H. Jr. of Rescue, Calif., Michael of Concord, Calif., and Stephen of Poulsbo; a daughter, Susan Prather of Belfair; a brother, Kenneth Terry of California; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Fisher and Ethel Salvi; and a brother, Carrol Terry.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Interment
will be at Memorial Gardens in Concord. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel and Pittsburgh Funeral Chapel.

Caroline Timm
Caroline S. Timm, 85, of Bremerton died Dec. 27, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Aneta, N.D., to Arthur and Bertha (Aspen) Sundquist. She graduated in 1934 from Aneta High School. She also graduated from nursing school in North Dakota.
She married
Alvin Timm in 1948 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a nurse at Harrison Hospital, retiring in 1977.
She was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Alvin Jr. of Bremerton; three daughters, Beverly Christiansen of Bremerton, Mary Williams of Gig Harbor and Alice Timm of Seattle; two brothers, Norman Sundquist of Auburn and Robert Sundquist of Seattle; two sisters, Thelma Grossman of San Francisco, Calif., and Joanne Sundquist of Renton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, 1250 Lincoln Ave., in Bremerton. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Crematory with Inurnment at Forest lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home.
Dennis Anderson
Dennis D. Anderson, 52, of Port Orchard died Dec. 28, 2001, at home.
He was born June 22, 1949, in Bremerton to Melvin and Darlene (Fisher) Anderson.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Local 302 for 32 years.
He enjoyed fishing and golf.
Survivors include his mother of Port Orchard; a son, Dennis D. II of Port Orchard; two daughters, Sheila Hann of Sparks, Nev., and Cheryl Townson of Granite Falls; two brothers, Howard A. of Gig Harbor and Ralph of Tacoma; two sisters, Kristen L. Anderson of Port Orchard; and Carol P. Anderson of Bainbridge Island; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Fraola cemetery in Olalla. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Nelva Balch
Nelva Bulmon Balch, 88, of Bellevue died
Dec. 24, 2001, at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.
She was born July 5, 1913, in Minot, N.D., to Gerald and Susie LaPlante. She graduated from high school in Minot.
She was a nurse at Washington Veterans Home at Retsil for 21 years.
She was one of the founders of the Kitsap Saddle Club and enjoyed animals. She was a Christian who enjoyed caring for others.
Survivors include a son, Don Bulmon of Bremerton; three half-brothers, Glen LaPlante, Ray LaPlante and Howard LaPlante, all of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Bulmon; her second husband, Norman Balch; four sisters and a brother.
No service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Green's of Bellevue. Her remains will be laid to rest on Bulmon Road in Port Orchard.
