Dennis Lantrip
Dennis A. Lantrip, 88, of Bremerton, died Nov. 26, 2001, at an adult home in Bremerton.
He was born on March 10, 1913, in Houlka, Miss., to David and Cora (Cullums) Lantrip.
He married
Lillian Maisterek on April 26, 1954, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She died in 1994.
He served in the Navy from 1935 to 1943 and was a pump operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years.
He enjoyed taking rides in his car and watching sports on TV.
Survivors include a son, Dennis "Lanny" of Bremerton; a daughter, Jo Brott of Silverdale; a brother, Roscoe of Texarkana, Ark.; a sister, Sibyl Cates of Fouke, Ark.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Herring; and a brother, Brooks.
An entombment service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Red Southerland
Cornish Clersey "Red" Southerland, 81, of Bremerton died Nov. 29, 2001, of cancer at his home.
He was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Hamilton County, Texas, to Zachary and Vera (McAnnelly) Southerland. He grew up in Hamilton County.
He married
Louise Keesee on Jan. 1, 1943, in Camp White, Ore.
Mr. Southerland served in the Army from 1939 until his retirement in 1959, achieving the rank of chief warrant officer. He was one of the last horse soldiers, serving in the 1st Cavalry at Fort Ringold in Texas.
He also served under General George Patton in Germany. He saw duty in Pusan, Korea, and became an Army recruiter in Bremerton.
Mr. Southerland was the civil service examiner with the city of Bremerton for 20 years. He retired from that position in 1979.
He was active in the Bremerton community as a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Scottish Rite, the Shriners, First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 103. He was recently honored as a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 103.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Pamela Kees of West Middlesex, Penn., Linda Verbon of Las Vegas and Lorna Crawford and Kathryn, both of Bremerton; one sister, Martha Steinhebel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren, Cheryl Gabaldon of Albuquerque, N.M., Shannon and John Crawford, both of Bremerton, Peter and Jeff Kees, both of West Middlesex, and Linda Ulizio of Ambridge, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at First United Methodist Church in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, the Shriner's Children's Hospital or to Meadows School in Las Vegas.
James Anderson
James Edward Anderson, 65, of Bremerton died Nov. 21, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in St. Thomas, N.D., to Oscar and C. Flora (Asgrimson) Anderson. He graduated in 1954 from Fort Vancouver High School in Vancouver, Wash, in 1958 from Clark Community College and in 1960 from the University of Washington.
He was a pharmacist.
Survivors include two sons, Richard of Poulsbo and Jeff of Bremerton; a daughter, Patti Larson of Port Angeles; a sister Flora Fanning, of Marysville; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Myrall Anderson.
Private services are planned.
Carol Mietzner
Former Bremerton resident Carol Mietzner, 67, of Torrance, Calif., died
Dec. 17, 2001.
She was born Dec. 13, 1934.
Mrs. Mietzner was a 1953 graduate of Bremerton High School.
She had resided in Torrance for 47 years.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert; her children and their spouses, Robbie and Anna Mietzner and Cheryl and Al Clifton; and four grandchildren, Jacob Clifton, Rita Mietzner, Sabrina Clifton and Allen Mietzner.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Sharon Davenport
Sharon Kay Davenport, 61, of Poulsbo died Dec. 18, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 4, 1940, in Omaha, Neb., to Edward and Margaret (Netherda) Thompson. She graduated in 1958 from Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Ore.
She was an executive assistant with labor union relations for Teamsters Local 670 in Oregon, retiring in 1991 after 20 years.
She enjoyed interior decorating and gardening. She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include her husband, Jerald O. Davenport; three daughters, Pam Battin of Bremerton, Penny Greenfield of Grapevine, Texas, and Traci Stevens of Silverdale; one brother, Dennis L. Thompson of Salem, Ore.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Vance Alkire
Former Bremerton resident Vance Alkire, 70, of Aberdeen died Dec. 17, 2001, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1931, in Bremerton to Laurence and Bernice (Rusk) Alkire. He was a 1951 graduate of Bremerton High School.
He married
Loraine Ames in 1954. They divorced in 1975.
Mr. Alkire served in the Army Reserve. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his companion, Winnie Tower of Bremerton; a son, Edward of Old Fort, N.C.; a daughter, Lorie McDowell of Aberdeen; a brother, William of Victoria, British Columbia; and three grandchildren.
No service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Florence Harris
Florence Augusta Harris, 87, of Bremerton died of lung cancer Dec. 15, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 23, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to Fred Edward and Emma Catherina Alexandria (Wohltman) Partsch. She was educated in St. Louis.
She married
Calvin Milford Harris on June 11, 1938, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. Harris was a member of a garden club in Brentwood, Mo., and was a Lutheran.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Jeanette Harris of Poulsbo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Valhalla cemetery in St. Louis. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Justin Brabham
Justin M. Brabham, 49, of Poulsbo died Dec. 4, 2001, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1952, in Eugene, Ore., to Justin and Pat Brabham. He was a 1970 graduate of Eugene High School.
Mr. Brabham served in the Coast Guard from 1970 to 1972. He later was an artist for 30 years.
He enjoyed growing orchids, gardening and landscaping.
Survivors include his companion, John Slaughter of Yakima; one son, Justin M. of Eldridge, Iowa; two daughters, Julie Detrent of Des Moines, Iowa, and Brandy Brabham of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Joe of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Marty Fox and Bernie Becker; and one grandchild.
A memorial service will be at noon Jan. 5, 2002, at Mr. Brabham's home in Poulsbo.
Elizabeth Hartley
Elizabeth Hartley, 82, of Silverdale died Dec. 16, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born April 11, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated from high school in Oakland, Calif., in 1937.
She married
Frederick C. Hartley on Sept. 14, 1940, in Oakland.
Mrs. Hartley had been president of a monthly book club in Ashland, Ore., and was a member of a women's club in Walnut Creek, Calif.
She was a member of Marcus Whitman Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Wash. She had served as a church deacon in Des Moines and in Ashland.
Survivors include her husband; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dianne Hartley of Grapeview; and one sister, Margaret Black of Medford, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 3, 2002, at Crista Shores in Silverdale. Inurnment will be in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Janice Roberts
Janice M. Roberts, 45, of Port Orchard died of cancer Dec. 17, 2001, in Port Orchard.
She was born July 13, 1956, in Fairbury, Ill., to Dwaine W. and Mary Jane (Krebs) Lighty. She attended Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, Ill., and later earned her GED. She also attended Olympic College.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid motorcyclist.
Survivors include her companion, Bruce Pennington of Port Orchard; her mother, Mary Jane (Krebs) Lighty of Bremerton; one son, Duane Lane of Port Orchard; one daughter, Christina Matson of Port Orchard; two brothers, Duane Lighty of Annapolis, Md., and Elmer M. Lighty of Port Orchard; three sisters, Mary J. Thorson of Spokane, Nancy Brandenberg of Roberts, Ill., and Linda Saltzman of Lexington, Ill.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Dwaine W. Lighty, and a sister, Sarah Mae Gray of Lakeland, Fla.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Purdy.

Idella Netwig
Idella J. Netwig, 85, of Bremerton died of heart failure Dec. 10, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Louisburg, Minn., to Alfred and Bertha (Guddall) Iverson. She graduated in 1934 from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Neb., and later graduated from the University of Nebraska.
She married
Ray Netwig on Sept. 4, 1941, in Denver. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Netwig enjoyed gardening. She was a past member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Bremerton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Merrill Iverson.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
