Mary Ley
Mary Lucile Ley, 87, of Poulsbo died Dec. 9, 2001, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born April 25, 1914, in Gold Bar to Alphonsus William and Lela (McIntire) Ley. She graduated in 1932 as valedictorian from South Kitsap High School.
She worked at the Everett Pulp & Paper Mill and was a fiscal accounting clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard before retiring.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Ley of Poulsbo; and a sister, Olive Adkins of Tacoma. She was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia McBurney, and a brother, John M.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Crematory with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mary Petersen Nishimura
Former Kitsap County resident Mary Petersen Nishimura, 54, died of heart failure Nov. 13, 2001, at her home in Lakewood, Calif.
She was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Evanston, Ill., to Robert and Janice Nystrom.
She married
Wayne Nishimura on June 8, 1979.
She was a teacher with the Therapeutic Arts Program for the Disabled in Lakewood.
She was an artist. She enjoyed working with crafts and loved animals.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Janice Nystrom of Bremerton; a sister, Nancy Conway of Bremerton; and five nieces and nephews, all of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Nystrom.
A service was held in Lakewood. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Eva Grosz
Eva L. Grosz, 85, of Port Orchard died Dec. 11, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1916, in Richardton, N.D., to Mathias and Frances (Reith) Mayer.
She married
Harold Grosz on Feb. 20, 1935, in Mott, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Mrs. Grosz was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing bingo and cards.
Survivors include three sons, Bill of Port Orchard, Don of Seattle and Randy of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Dolores Grosz of Bremerton, Ardyce Roberts of Aloha, Ore., and Debby Holly of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Evelyn Higgins of Eugene, Ore., Bette Luckey of Kansas City, Kan., and Clara Portscheller of Golva, N.D.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at Miller-Woodlawn.

Harold Hawkinson
Harold Hawkinson, 90, of Poulsbo died Dec. 11, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Aug. 22, 1911, in Lofall to Edward and Anna (Peterson) Hawkinson.
He married
Myrtle Knutson on Feb. 5, 1949, in Bremerton.
Mr. Hawkinson served in the Army with the Army Transport Service from 1942 to 1945.
He later was a commercial fisherman and a truck driver, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert K. and Richard H., both of Washington; a daughter, Jacqueline Lester of Monterey, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn and Helen.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.

Elizabeth Jones
Elizabeth A. Jones, 96, of Port Orchard died Dec. 10, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Sept. 8, 1905, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Frank and Margaret (Reistroffer) Goldschmit.
She married
Minard Jones on Sept. 27, 1923, in White Lake, S.D. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, Laurance of Poulsbo; a daughter, Betty Lou Blomgren of Tacoma; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Jones.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Orchard. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Douglas Dilley
Douglas Richard Dilley, 61, of Tahuya died of cardiac arrest in his sleep Dec. 3, 2001, at home.
He was born April 5, 1940, in Rice Lake, Wis., to Rosie (Dilley) Rider. He graduated in 1957 from Reedsburg High School in Reedsburg, Wis.
He married
Nancy Brown on Aug. 9, 1960, in Taylor Falls, Minn.
Mr. Dilley served in the Army from 1965 to 1966. He later was a welder and mechanic for many years, retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed camping and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Baraboo, Wis.; two sons, Bob of Tahuya and Brian of Baraboo; a brother, Charles Grasley of Baraboo; and a sister, Janet Britzke of Baraboo.
A private service will be Saturday in Baraboo. Another service will be held in the spring in Washington.
Philip Paquette Sr.
Philip Edmond Paquette Sr., 79, of Port Orchard died Dec. 7, 2001, of congestive heart failure at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1922, in Springfield, Mass., to Edward Albert and Mary Louise (Forant) Paquette. He graduated in 1941 from Springfield Trade High School and attended Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College in Massachusetts.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a private first class. He was awarded the European Theater Operations Medal with six bronze stars and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He married
Nancy Louise Kingsbury on Nov. 6, 1948, in Springfield.
He was a teacher for 15 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Paquette was a member of the American Legion Post 277 and the Elks.
He was Catholic.
Survivors include his wife of Port Orchard; four sons, Philip Jr. and Paul, both of Port Orchard, Bruce of Marysville, Robert of Seattle, and Roland of Greenfield, Mass.; a daughter, Nancy Frank of Port Orchard; a brother, Charles, of Englewood, Fla.; three sisters, Hilda Charvet of Southwick, Mass., Doris Melanese of Springfield and Teresa Donahue of Venice, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Donald, Carlton and Calvin, and two sisters, Connie and Geneva.
A funeral service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Betty Jean Dimmen
Betty Jean Dimmen, 70, of Belfair died Dec. 9, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1931, in Chicago, to Clarence and Betty Swanson. She graduated in 1949 from Highline High School in Seattle.
She married
Bjorn "Bud" Dimmen on May 22, 1953, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of T.O.P.S. and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include three sons, David and Donald, both of Belfair, and Jeff of Seabeck; two brothers, Mike Swanson of Puyallup and Harry Olsen of Seattle; two sisters, Maralyn Babcock of Federal Way and Diane Ashford of Thornton, Colo.; a close friend of the family, Phyl Jonesen; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Eric Dimmen, and a sister, Janean Calhoun.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at North Mason United Methodist Church in Belfair. Interment
will be private. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Shirley Kilthau
Shirley Ann (Buchanan) Kilthau, 55, of Bremerton died after battling lung cancer Dec. 9, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 23, 1946, in Havre De Grace, Md., to Catherine Elizabeth (Bickel) Greak and William Buchanan. She graduated from high school in Los Angeles. In 1981, she graduated from Southwestern Community College in San Diego.
She served in the Marine Corps in 1964 for a few months, then was medically discharged for pregnancy.
On Jan. 29, 1983, she married
Robert Kilthau in San Diego.
She worked as a nurse, retiring in 1992.
She enjoyed studying genealogy and going camping. She was a member of Venango County Historical Society and Clan Buchanan in America. She was Roman Catholic and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Bremerton; two sons, James A. Ozburn Jr. and Brian L. Ozburn, both of Bremerton; three brothers, Victor Moore and Timmy Greak of De Funiak Springs, Fla., and Terry Greak of Missouri; three sisters, Gloria Gamble of Kansas City, Mo., Sheryl Heffern of Meadville, Pa., and Kay Burchill of Cochranton, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Dustin R. and Sara M. Ozburn of Bremerton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Leroy Buchanan.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Lois Oakley
Lois C. Oakley, 86, of Port Orchard died Dec. 8, 2001, at home.
She was born July 30, 1915, in Canada, to John H. and Adeline A. Lane.
She was an office clerk and American Red Cross nurse.
She married
Edward Oakley in Detroit, Mich. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Oakley of Port Orchard, John Oakley of Twanoh Falls, Wash., and James Oakley of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Oakley of Auburn; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Marie Bjorling
Marie H. Bjorling, 91, of Port Orchard died Dec. 9, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born April 10, 1910, in Ballard, to Hans and Bertha (Skaar) Rodal. She graduated in 1927 from South Kitsap High School.
She married
Carl A. Bjorling on Dec. 14, 1935, in Port Orchard. He died in 1989.
She was a homemaker and member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Fosberg of Seattle and Linda Rhodes of Port Orchard; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Bjarne Rodal.
A private service is planned at Ridgemont Terrace. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
