Carmelita Hunt
Carmelita S. Hunt of Bremerton died after a year-long battle with cancer
Feb. 1, 2002, at Sun Health Hospice House in Phoenix. She and her husband were wintering in Arizona at the time of her death.
She was born in West Liberty, Iowa, in 1925. After graduation from high school in 1943, she married
Malcolm W. Hunt. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in November.
Mrs. Hunt held a supervisory position in personalized services with the Navy Exchange at Naval Station Bremerton for more than 15 years, retiring in 1992.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening, and watching baseball, tennis and figure skating. She loved animals and always had pets.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kristiann Kirby; and three grandchildren, Francheska, Alexi and Aury Kirby. Her son, Steven, preceded her in death in 1966. He was 17.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Orchards Community Church in Lewiston, Idaho, with a reception following.

Troy Moore
Former Port Orchard resident Troy Moore, 98, of Sequim died Dec. 19, 2001, at his home.
He was born July 23, 1903, in Snoqualmie to Eugene and Elizabeth Jane (Mills) Moore. He graduated in 1923 from Snoqualmie High School, earned his teaching certificate in 1926 at Bellingham Normal School and received his bachelor of arts degree in education in 1948 at Western Washington College.
He married
Georgia Jean Davis of Port Orchard on June 3, 1932, in Olympia. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Mr. Moore was a teacher and administrator in the South Kitsap School District for 39 years, beginning his career there in 1926. In 1928, he became principal of the Annapolis Grade School.
In 1942, he was named principal of the new Givens Grade School. He remained at Givens for 23 years, retiring from education in 1965.
After his retirement, he operated Moore Vehicle Sales at his home at the bottom of Mile Hill in Port Orchard until 1975. He and his wife moved to Sequim in 1975, where he pursued his hobbies, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Troy K. and Loryn of Canby, Ore., Stanley J. and Janine of Forks and W. Mikel and Ann of Soldotna, Alaska; a daughter, Merrianne Makela and her husband, George, of Cashmere; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A remembrance gathering for Troy Moore will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Givens Community Center in Port Orchard.
Doris Ladely
Doris A. Ladely, 94, of Silverdale died Feb. 6, 2002, in Silverdale.
She was born Feb. 11, 1907, in Wolverine, Mich., to James and Kathryn (Howland) Hulin.
She married
Jim Ladely. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Ladely was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose, a member of Unity Church of Bremerton, a volunteer with South Kitsap Helpline and a caregiver at St. Gabriel Catholic Church (from age 83 to 94).
Survivors include two sons, Gary of Sumner and Rob and his fiancee, Jeanne Ogle, of Bremerton; a daughter, Pat Gress and her husband, Joe, of Sequim; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike, and a sister, Ardis.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Unity Church of Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Joseph Leland
Former Gig Harbor resident Joseph Leonard Leland, 88, of Tacoma died Feb. 10, 2002, at Tacoma Lutheran Home.
He was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Los Angeles to Theodore and Gertrude (Schwartz) Leland. He was a graduate of Los Angeles High School.
He married
Eve Herz on Jan. 7, 1944, in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Mr. Leland served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1946, achieving the rank of major. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a consultant with International Executive Service Corporation for 10 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Leland enjoyed reading, camping and traveling. He was a Unitarian Universalist.
Survivors include his wife; one son, David of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter Jill Eshenbaugh of Silverdale; a sister, Teddy Cole of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren, Dave Eshenbaugh of Seattle and Zachary Leland of Santa Cruz.
A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tacoma Unitarian Church, 1115 S 56th St. in Tacoma.

Janet Corrigan
Janet Wilhemenia Corrigan, 92, of Port Orchard died Feb. 10, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Jan. 15, 1910, in Vlissingen, Netherlands, to Laurence and Wilhemenia (Simmons) Meerman. She graduated in 1929 from Cleveland High School in Seattle.
She married
Charles Corrigan on Nov. 11, 1933, in Pierce County. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Corrigan held office manager positions with The Boeing Co. for 10 years and with Northwestern Insurance Company for 20 years. She retired in 1956.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly and Harper Evangelical Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Miller and her husband, Jack, of Port Orchard; a sister, Mary Kamerdula of Seattle; four grandchildren, Brian Miller of Tukwila and Brent, Brenda and Brady Miller, all of Port Orchard; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Harper Evangelical Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Donald Knight
Donald V. Knight, 74, of Bainbridge Island died of a heart attack Feb. 9, 2002, on Bainbridge Island.
He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Heppner, Ore., to Edgar L. and Sylvia V. (Reece) Knight.
Mr. Knight served in the Marine Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant. He also was a carpenter for 40 years.
He enjoyed hunting and photography.
Survivors include four sons, David of Taylor, S.C., Dan and Don, both of Auburn, and Daryl of Buckley; two stepdaughters, Ginger Seick of Tumwater and Geri Lynn Robinson of Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters, Ellen Palmer of
Port Orchard and Darlene Heard of Bremerton; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Lord's Baptist Church, 8301 McKinley Ave., in Tacoma. Memorial donations may be made to The Lord's Baptist Church at the address above.
Theresa Anne Voos
Theresa Anne Voos, 49, of Bremerton died of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm Feb. 7, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 26, 1952, at Bainbridge Naval Hospital in Maryland, to Herman and Paula Walburga (Wiedenhofer) Burkett.
She graduated from Anderson High School in Anderson, Ind., in 1970. She received bachelor of arts and master's degrees from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
She married
Frederick W. Voos on June 10, 1972, in Anderson, Ind.
Mrs. Voos taught fifth grade at Cougar Valley Elementary School in Silverdale.
She loved teaching. She also enjoyed outdoor activities such as sailing and hiking.
Survivors include her husband; her parents, now of Anderson; two sons, Justin C. and Jonathan A., both of Bremerton; one daughter, Melissa S. Young and her husband, Jeff, of Trenton, N.J.; and two brothers, Michael Burkett and his wife, Sheree, of Pendleton, Ind., and Robert Burkett of Carmel, Ind. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patti Case.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Another memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs, Wyo. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lyla Brown
Lyla L. Brown, 60, of Bremerton died of cancer Feb. 10, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 22, 1941, in Wapato to Cecil and Elna (Cooley) Ince. She graduated from South Kitsap High School.
She married
Herschel E. Brown in 1993 in Pocatello, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Brown was a home health aide for four years.
She enjoyed gardening, crochet, cards and going to rummage sales. She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include four sons, Robert J., Dale L. and Metz D. Abbott, all of Bremerton, and Herschel D. Brown of Jacksonville, Ark.; a daughter, Anna C. Bresette of Port Orchard; a brother, Lonnie C. Ince of Port Orchard; and eight grandchildren.
Services are private. The family requests no memorial donations be made.
Devon Mercado
Devon Lewis J. Mercado, three months, of Bremerton died Feb. 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 2001, at Harrison Hospital Silverdale to Chana Mercado and Jeremy Anema.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Alec L. Dionnie of Bremerton; and grandparents, Carrie and Russell Abad of Bremerton and Mr. and Mrs. Anema of California.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Gene Grade
Eugene E. "Gene" Grade, 66, of Poulsbo died Feb. 10, 2002, at Harrison Hospital following an eight-year fight against cancer.
He was born in Little Rock, Ark., and moved to Oregon in 1947 where he lived until he joined the Navy in 1955.
After his Navy service, he entered Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore., graduating with a degree in physics in 1963. Upon graduation, he moved to Bremerton and began a 30-year career with the Navy Department.
Mr. Grade worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport until transferring to Kauai, Hawaii, for a seven-year tour at the Navy's Pacific Missile Range. He returned to the Trident Refit Facility at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor in the early 1980s to manage the magnetic silencing facility.
He transferred to NUWES several years later as manager of the Underwater Tracking Range and went on to work several years for Eldyne Corp. as its regional manager before retiring in the mid-1990s.
Mr. Grade held a black belt in judo and was active in many sports, especially hunting, camping, fishing, boating and four-wheeling. He was also involved in Boy Scouts, youth sports and programs, ham radio clubs, model airplane clubs, marksman clubs, rescue organizations, community service clubs and more.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Ladd) Grade; a daughter, Jodie Steinke; a son, Jeff; his mother, Estelle; a brother, Estes; six grandchildren; two nephews; and three nieces.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America in lieu of flowers.
Mina Sacho
Mina Christa Marie Sacho, 90, of Bremerton died Feb. 11, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Prairie Creek, Neb., to Ernst August and Anna (Bruns) Kamper. She completed her education in Grand Island, Neb.
She was a clerk in the Poulsbo Bakery and was an avid gardener and award-winning quilter. She was a member of the Unity Church of Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, Robert R. Mick of Gig Harbor; two daughters, Marilyn J. Frappier and her husband, Tom, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Sharon A. Samek and her husband, Richard, of Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Fredrick Mick and three husbands, Roy E. Mick, Albert Case and Leon Sacho.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service there.
