Reidar Westeren
Reidar Westeren, 93, of Poulsbo died Feb. 8, 2002, at Martha and Mary Health Center.
He was born Jan. 26, 1909, in Tacoma. He had attended Washington State University for one year.
He married
Laura Hagen on July 3, 1933.
Mr. Westeren worked as a bulldozer operator in the timber industry, building logging roads. He was the first mayor of Darrington and he considered his family his greatest accomplishment.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and daughters-in-law, Boyd and Nera Westeren of Medford, Ore., Raymond and Sherrill Westeren of Seabeck, Ronald and Karla Westeren of Bend, Ore., and David and Anita Westeren of Issaquah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Bob Vane of Arlington and Karen and Roger Smith of Sammamish; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday also at Lewis with committal at Forest Lawn cemetery.
John Mandak
John Mandak, 83, of Silverdale died Feb. 8, 2002, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Cashmir and Anna (Krocan) Mandak.
He graduated from Marquette University in Mil-waukee with a master's degree in chemistry. Following graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps and served as a meteorologist during World War II, (from 1943 to 1946) and subsequently in the Air Force Reserve, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He married
Bernadine Lazewski on Aug. 15, 1942. In 1947, the couple relocated to the Silverdale area. Mr. Mandak was an instructor in chemistry and meteorology at Olympic College. He retired from OC in 1976 after a 27-year career.
Mr. Mandak enjoyed many interests, including travel, sports and the outdoors. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Norman Mandak of Omak and Brian Mandak of Bremerton; four grandchildren, Steve, Carrie, Deanna and Michelle; and five great-grandchildren, Cali, Allison, Riley, Michael and Julia.
A memorial service will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the John Mandak Tribute Fund, c/o Olympic College Foundation, 1600 Chester Ave., Bremerton, WA 98337.
Raymond Hanna
Raymond Gene Hanna, 73, of Bremerton died Feb. 11, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 6, 1928, in Tillamook, Ore., to Albert and Edna Mary Stevens. He graduated from Robert A. Long High School in Longview in 1948.
He married
Avis Virginia Young on April 28, 1951. She died in 1997.
Mr. Hanna served in the Navy from 1945 to 1947, achieving the rank of fireman second class. He received two meritorious awards.
He worked in the federal civil service for 25 years, retiring in 1983 as housing director at Naval Submarine Base Bangor.
Mr. Hanna was a member of Bethel Grange 404 in Port Orchard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond Gene Hanna of Seabeck, Curtis Martin Hanna of Kingston and Christopher Stuart Hanna of Poulsbo; a daughter, Susan Jane Hanna, of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Whittenberg.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Don Anderson
Don Golden Anderson, 69, of Bremerton died Feb. 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Oscar Dean and Melinda (Bell) Anderson.
He attended Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Ore. He received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Oregon State University and a master's in systems management from the University of Southern California.
Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Navy from July 7, 1950, to Nov. 2, 1953, achieving the rank of AD3 (T). He was awarded the National Defense and Good Conduct medals.
He was an engineer with Lockheed Missile and Space for 30 years, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Anderson married
Janet M. Smith Aug. 2, 1968 in Corvallis.
He enjoyed motorcycling and bowling.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Brent and Aaron Anderson, David Proctor and his wife, Pamela, of Greenwood, Ind., and William Proctor of Bremerton; three daughters, Cinda Anderson, Donna Proctor and her husband, Andy Hohman, of Indianapolis, Ind., Janet Proctor-Deimendo and her husband, David, of Port Orchard; three brothers, Dorcel and his wife, Norma, of San Lorenzo, Calif., Dell and his wife, Ruth, of Manti, Utah, Doyle and his wife, Sophia, of Springville, Utah; a sister Elaine Haroldsen and her husband, Ray, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Anderson.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and burial services will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Roland Haas
Roland W. Haas, 80, of the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil died Feb. 2, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Durham, N.C., to George and Edna (Deaton) Clinard.
Mr. Haas served in the Navy from 1939 to 1945, achieving the rank of seaman first class. He participated in many Pacific battles and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He worked as a carpenter in Nevada for many years. He was a former Navy boxing champion and enjoyed sailing.
Survivors include a son, George Giraud of Las Vegas; a daughter, Jacqueline Estvold of Central Point, Ore.; a brother, Tyrus W. Haas of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
Services are private. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery in Oregon. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Edward Allen
Edward T. Allen, 85, of Seattle died Jan. 31, 2002, at Parkwest Care Center in Seattle. He owned a summer home on Island Lake in Kitsap County since 1929.
He was born April 28, 1916, in Anyox, British Columbia, to Joseph B. and Edna Pearl (Steeves) Allen. He graduated from Edmonds High School in 1935 and received an associate degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1945.
He married
June Jensen on Feb. 20, 1943, in Ballard.
Mr. Allen worked in the engineering department of The Boeing Co. for many years, retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, RVing, swimming and skiing.
Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Nadeen Kvinsland of Poulsbo; 10 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and great-nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Services will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice affiliated with Swedish Hospital in Seattle or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Martin Turcina
Martin Turcina, 83, of Lakebay died Feb. 1, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Martin and Magdalana (Moravicek) Turcina.
He married
Eva Marie Durst on Sept. 8, 1943, in Seattle.
Mr. Turcina served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II as a gunner's mate aboard USS Brazon, which was based in Bremerton.
He worked as a furrier in the San Francisco Bay area for most of his life. He was also employed as a cabinet maker with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 15 years until his retirement.
He was a member of SIRS (Sons in Retirement).
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Becker of College Station, Texas, and Peggy Marilyn Hamann of Lakebay; two sisters, Eleanor Hnilo of Colma, Calif., and Anna Mattox of Pataluma, Calif.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Turcina.
Services are private. Arrangements by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Bill Schultz
William H. "Bill" Schultz, 82, of Illahee died Feb. 1, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1919, in Chicago to William G. and Emma Schultz. He was educated in Eagle Bend, Minn.
Mr. Schultz served in Germany with an Army artillery unit from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of private first class. After the war, he lived in Minnesota for several years, moving to Bremerton in 1948.
He and his late wife, Mildred, lived in Illahee for many years. Mr. Schultz worked at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor and at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of American Legion Post 68 in Bremerton. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, June Cramer and Joyce Littlefield, both of Bremerton; a brother, Walter of Tahuya; and a sister, Sally Bloechl of Yuma, Ariz.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
Roger McMillin
Roger Alan McMillin, 88, of Bremerton died Feb. 4, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Seattle to Raymond and Erbine (Cole) McMillin. He graduated from Ballard High School.
He married
Alice Demarest on Oct. 6, 1944, in Centralia.
Mr. McMillin served in the Army, achieving the rank of corporal. He later worked as an engineering specialist with Seattle City Light until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Family of God Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Alan Douglas "Doug" and his wife, Alice, of Seattle; two daughters, Lynn Rose "Boots" Boyce of Warrenville, S.C., and Miriam Louise Grossberg and her husband, Lawrence, of Bremerton; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Family of God Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Tahoma National cemetery.

Vera Payne
Vera Lucetta Payne, 101, of Port Orchard died Feb. 7, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 15, 1900, in Nemaha, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Workman. She attended high school in Vermont.
She married
Arthur Payne. He preceded her in death.
A homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Payne enjoyed cake decorating and crafts. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a son, Charles Payne and his wife Betty of Port Orchard; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at LaPine cemetery in LaPine, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Elmer Kelley
Elmer L. Kelley, 80, of Bremerton died Feb. 3, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 1, 1921, in Hoquiam to Ernest and Grace (Pilcher) Kelley. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1938.
Mr. Kelley served in the Marine Corps from 1940 to 1945 during World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He later worked for Black Ball Freight Co. as a mechanic and truck driver for 31 years until his retirement.
Mr. Kelley enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Kelley of Olympia and Carolyn Denning of Bellevue; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
