Glenn Jarstad
A memorial service celebrating the life of the late Bremerton mayor and city councilman Glenn Jarstad is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Sylvan Way Baptist Church, 900 Sylvan Way in East Bremerton. A reception immediately follows the service at the Sons of Norway in West Bremerton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glenn K. Jarstad and June L. Jarstad Endowment Fund. The fund is being established through Kitsap Community Foundation, P.O. Box 3670, Silverdale, WA 98383. This fund will provide assistance for various community needs.
Harland Olmsted
Harland Page Olmsted, 83, of Bremerton died Feb. 4, 2002, of a respiratory disease at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 22, 1918, in Monona, Iowa, to Phineas LeGrande and Lydia Mae (Arnold) Olmsted. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Omaha, Neb., in 1936.
He married
Alberta Louise Ball on Oct. 6, 1940, in Olympia.
Mr. Olmsted worked in management with J.C. Penney Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member and past president of the Chief Kitsap Lions Club and Bremerton Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Edgar "Skip" Olmsted of Port Orchard, Paul Leland Olmsted of Silverdale and Anthony Laurence Olmsted of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil M. Olmsted, a son, Timothy LeGrande Olmsted and a grandson, Jason LeGrande Olmsted.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Bremerton Church of the Nazarene, 924 Sheridan in East Bremerton.

Edna Wardall
Edna Marie Wardall, 92, of Bremerton died Jan. 30, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 5, 1909, in Yakima to Fred and Gertrude (Stevenson) Brown. She graduated with honors from Wapato High School in Wapato in 1927 and later attended business college in Yakima.
She married
Marshall R. Wardall on Feb. 23, 1936, in Wapato. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Wardall had been employed as an executive secretary with the National Bank of Commerce in Yakima and at a savings and loan company in Reno, Nev. She had also worked as a real estate agent in Lakewood.
When her husband was Justice of the Peace in Ponders Corner, she ran the state office and later managed the office for the family insurance business.
Mrs. Wardall was a longtime member of the Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Wardall of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; one daughter, Sharon "Cherie" Erickson of Bremerton; one brother, Don Brown of Yakima; three sisters, Lela Boucher of Yakima and Betty Kechley and Billie Lee, both of Seattle; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fraser Brown of Yakima.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date to celebrate Mrs. Wardall's Christian life.
May Howell
Ermelinda "May" Howell, 89, of Port Orchard died Feb. 1, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a Port Orchard resident for over 20 years.
She was born July 7, 1912, at the American Embassy in Colima, Mexico, to Richard M. and Hermelinda (Soto) Stadden.
She married
Guillermo Howell. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Howell worked as credit and finance manager for a concrete construction company.
She loved her family and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. Her interests included reading and cooking and she was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Montalvo and her husband Art of Port Orchard; one son, Stanley Howell of Penngrove, Calif.; six grandchildren, Cynthia Montalvo of Belfair, Art Montalvo of Olalla and Debbie, Donna, Mark and Jay, all of California; and great-grandchildren, David, Brandon, Michael and Rebekah Montalvo, all of Olalla, and numerous others in California.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor.

James Baldwin
Former Silverdale resident James J. Baldwin, 77, of Seattle died Jan. 21, 2002, in Seattle.
He was born July 3, 1924, in Fairbault, Minn., to Wood M. and Margaret (Bruestle) Baldwin. He grew up in Silverdale, graduating from Silverdale High School in 1942. He was also among the first graduates of Olympic College in 1949 and later a graduate of Western Washington University (1951).
Mr. Baldwin had worked at the Keyport Naval Torpedo Station prior to serving as a medic in Germany with the United States Army Cavalry from 1943 to 1945 and achieving the rank of corporal. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Following his military career, he became an elementary school teacher. He taught at Tracyton Elementary School for 29 years, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne (Klingensmith) Baldwin; one daughter, Teri Michel of Jackson, Wyo.; stepchildren, MaryAllene and John Klingensmith and Lori Meldrum; two grandchildren, Shannon and Andrew; and his former wife, Beverly (Quimby) Baldwin. He was preceded in death by a son, Woodie, and by brothers, Bunky and Vic.
At his request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made to Alzheimer's research, cancer research or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Olson
Robert William Olson, 78, of Silverdale died Feb. 4, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 23, 1923, in Tacoma to Wilhelm and Lois (Person) Olson. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1941.
He married
Mildred Jones in Bremerton in 1941. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Olson served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct and the World War II Victory Medal.
Following his military career, he worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 36 years, retiring in 1978 as a general foreman.
He enjoyed traveling and history.
Survivors include one son, Michael Olson of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Margaret Ollenburger of Bremerton and Bobbe Daugherty of Silverdale; one sister, Peggy Ernst of Edmonds; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John, and a daughter, Judy.
A gathering for family and friends is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Naomi Blake
Naomi Emma Blake, 76, of Port Orchard died Jan. 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Oklahoma to John Claude and Myrtle Emma (Harvey) Duffy.
She had worked in hotel and motel housekeeping, retiring as a manager.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and was an active supporter of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include one son, John E. Pearson and his wife Teresita of Port Orchard; one daughter, Nancy E. Mort and her husband Dennis of Redding, Calif.; one brother, Leo Duffy and his wife Fern of Dale City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Duffy; her first husband, Jessie Earl Pearson in 1969; and her second husband, Leonard Blake in 1984.
Burial will be in Redding. Visitation will take place at a later date, also in Redding. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton and McDonald's Mortuary in Redding.

James Burnett
James C. Burnett, 75, of Silverdale died of cancer Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Wilburton, Okla., to John and Ann (Perdue) Burnett. He graduated in 1944 from Vallejo High School in Vallejo, Calif., and had attended Colorado University in Boulder.
He married
Wilma J. Mattson on Jan. 1, 1952, in Denver.
Mr. Burnett was a civil engineering technician for 30 years in California, retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed flying and playing the piano.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, James Jr. and Mark, both of Bremerton, William of Beaverton, Ore., and Ted of Poulsbo; a daughter, Jeanine Oswald of Kingston; two brothers, Charles of San Jose, Calif., and Paul of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the noon funeral service Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Daniel Roloff
Daniel L. Roloff, 91, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Jan. 31, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born May 8, 1910, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Simon and Matilda (Reich) Roloff. He graduated from high school in Odessa and attended college in Cheney.
He married
Margaret Jacobson in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1988.
Mr. Roloff was a store owner and postmaster in Lamona for more than 35 years before retiring.
He volunteered at Harrison Hospital and with Peace Lutheran School, both in Bremerton. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by a brother, Harold of Cheney. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Matthew Fredricks
Matthew William Fredricks, 8, died Jan. 31, 2002 at home in Hansville.
He was born May 7, 1993 in Bremerton to Robert W. and Susan R. (Agee) Fredricks.
He was a third-grade student at Vinland Elementary School.
He liked wheelchairs and fire trucks.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, April Fredricks of Olympia; grandparents Robert Agee of Coos Bay, Ore., and Pat Fredricks of Hansville.
He was preceded in death by an older brother, Robert "Bobby" M.H. Fredricks, in 1999.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hansville Church with burial to follow in the Hansville cemetery.

Donna Pachal
Donna Marie Pachal, 67, of Yelm died of ovarian cancer Jan. 30, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Madison, Wis., to James M. and Elizabeth (Jeffries) Clayton. She graduated from high school in Madison.
She married
Richard F. Pachal in Gardenia, Calif. They were later divorced.
From 1951 to 1954, she served in the Air Force, advancing to noncommissioned officer.
Her interests included gardening, sewing, knitting, quilting, animals and caring for the elderly.
She is survived by her former husband of Montana; two sons, Robert of Yelm and Richard of Kent; two daughters, Cathy Karlson of Poulsbo and Margy Tvrdy of Wisall, Mont.; a brother, Steve Anderson of Madison; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
