Donald Vaa
Donald Albert Vaa, 81, of Poulsbo died from complications of Alzheimer's disease March 26, 2002, at Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island.
He was born May 21, 1920, in Poulsbo to Albert G. and Lena O. (Kittelson) Vaa. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1937.
Mr. Vaa served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of baker first class.
He married LaVonne (Pecotte) Halas on June 15, 1962, in Poulsbo. She died in 1993.
Mr. Vaa was a grocery store manager for more than 20 years, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed camping and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Patti A. Prather and her husband, Mike, of Buckley and Stacee D. Tobin and her husband, Bill, of Kingston; a sister, Lucille Peterson of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew Tobin.
At his request, no services will be held. Interment icon will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Laurie Kugler
Laurie Kugler, 53, of Silverdale died from complications of cancer March 27, 2002, in Seattle.
She was born June 12, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lester and Louise Carlston.
She married David Lee Kugler on May 16, 1970, in Los Angeles. Mrs. Kugler was a homemaker.
She enjoyed researching family history and working with the PTA. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Timothy David of Silverdale and Christopher Lee of Provo, Utah; a brother, George Carlston of Astoria, N.Y.; and five sisters, Judi Ragsdale of Fullerton, Calif., Suzanne Labrum of Sandy, Utah, Marlene Gillins of American Fork, Utah, Anna Peterson of Simi Valley, Calif., and Caralee Bohne of Murrieta, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11070 Old Frontier Road NW in Silverdale. Interment icon will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1551 Broadway No. 200, Tacoma, WA 98402.

Inez Moore
Inez H. Moore, 97, of Bremerton died March 22, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 21, 1904, to Jesse and Ora Reeder in Yaquina Bay, Ore. She attended Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Ore., and taught school for nine years in Oregon.
She and her husband, Frank, moved to Bremerton in 1936. She returned to the work force at the advent of World War II. She was employed for three years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and for three years with the American Red Cross.
At the end of the war, Mrs. Moore resumed her teaching career in the Bremerton School District, where she taught for 23 years, retiring in 1971. While teaching, she earned a degree from the University of Washington and received her master's degree from Oregon State University.
Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Helen Clague of Port Ludlow and Jean Robards of Bremerton; a daughter, Virginia A. Yiskis of Belfair; a son, Vern L. Moore of Olympia; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at the Mason County cemetery in Belfair.

Edna Harrington
Edna M. Harrington, 87, of Port Orchard died March 26, 2002, in Bremerton. She had previously lived in the Central Valley area.
She was born May 11, 1914, in Big Lake to Edward and Bertha Nichols. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1932 and attended the Simpson Bible Institute.
She married Elmer Harrington. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Harrington was a retail clerk for many years. She retired from the Bremerton Woolworth's store in 1959.
She was a member of the Keyport Craft Club and Keyport Bible Church. She volunteered with the Salvation Army in Bremerton and enjoyed teaching children in association with the Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn Harrington and his wife, Ida, of Kenmore, Larry Smith and his wife, Mary Sue, of Bonney Lake, and Lyle Smith and his wife, Pat, of Snohomish; a daughter, Patricia Sloan of Manchester; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debra Sloan Gordon; and two sisters, Margaret Banks and Mary Larsen Banks.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service follows at 1 p.m. Monday at Keyport Bible Church.

John Hurdle
John Philip Hurdle, 55, of Bremerton died from complications of heart disease March 11, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1946, in Portsmouth, Va., to Robert Charles and Alice (Leathers) Hurdle. He graduated from Oceanside High School in Oceanside, Calif., in 1965 and from Miracosta College in Oceanside in 1967.
Mr. Hurdle was a shipfitter for 20 years with Lockheed Martin, Todd Pacific Shipyards and most recently at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1994 because of his heart condition.
He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, with more than 20 years of sobriety. He enjoyed sports and cooking.
He is survived by a daughter, Johnett Hurdle.
Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Laura Ann Ebel
Laura Ann Ebel, 6 months, daughter of Phillip L. Ebel and Teresa L. (Faasua-malie) Wiechmann of Bremer-ton, died March 23, 2002, at her home.
She was born Sept. 18, 2001, in Silverdale.
She is survived by her parents and her sister, Hanna M. Wiechmann of Bremerton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Laurence Hammrich
Laurence S. Hammrich, 89, of Port Orchard died of cancer March 26, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Ipswich, S.D., to John and Ann (Huber) Hammrich. He attended schools in Edmunds County, S.D.
He married Hilda C. Rempher on Oct. 1, 1936, in Ipswich. She died in 1993.
Mr. Hammrich worked as a farmer for 26 years and operated a second-hand store for 10 years. He retired in 1975.
He enjoyed collecting pocket watches, the outdoors and auctions. He was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include two sons, Harlan D. and Ronald L. Hammrich, both of Port Orchard; a daughter, Ronda Kendrick of Port Orchard; a brother, Floyd Hammrich of Leola, S.D.; a sister, Irene Houser of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and a granddaughter, Becky Hammrich, in 1971.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service will be at1 p.m. Friday at West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Theda Campbell
Theda Cathryn Campbell, 80, of Poulsbo died March 25, 2002, in Poulsbo.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Wilmer, Minn., to Clarence and Angie (Hoekstra) Brower. She graduated from high school in Kandiyohi County, Minn., and received her teaching degree from Northwestern College in Iowa.
She married George G. Campbell on Nov. 15, 1947, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Rectory in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Mrs. Campbell had been a teacher and homemaker. She had participated in 4-H and PTA.
She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was still very much involved in the church.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen G. Campbell and his wife, Debra, and Daniel G. Campbell and his wife, Irene, all of Poulsbo, and Richard G. Campbell and his companion, Nancy E. Fretag, of Redmond; four daughters, Carol A. Aiken and her husband, Barry, of Bremerton, Patricia E. Howerton and her husband, Ronald, of Naselle, Joyce C. Stewart and her husband, Grant, of Monroe and Marilyn L. Patterson and her husband, Michael, of Port Angeles; two brothers, John Brower and his wife, Evelyn, of Minnesota and Richard Brower and his companion, Doreen, of Minnesota; four sisters, Alice Patti of Rockaway, N.J., and Joyce Twedt, Clara Mulder and her husband, John, and Carolyn Duininck and her husband, Wallace, all of Minnesota; 29 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be said at 11 a.m. Monday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Dan Weller
Dan Webster Weller Jr., 61, of Silverdale died March 24, 2002, at his home of melanoma.
He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in the U.S. Panama Canal Zone to Dan Webster and Catherine Ann (Roberts) Weller. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, Md., in 1958.
He received degrees from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., in 1963 and from California Institute of Technology in Pasadena in 1964.
He married Suzanne Fairbanks on Nov. 22, 1971, in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Weller was an electrical and mechanical engineer. He had worked in civil service at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 33 years, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed aviation (flying small planes), photography and music. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served an LDS mission to Brazil from 1964 to 1966.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, now of Johnson City, Tenn.; five sons, Jonathan and his wife, Stacey, of Cincinnati, David and his wife, Lori, of Seattle, Paul and Daniel, both of Provo, Utah, and Samuel of Silverdale; a daughter, Suzanna of Provo; two sisters, Joanne Gilmer of Johnson City and Judith Munn of Chevy Chase, Md.; and three grandchildren, Cameron and Ava, both of Seattle, and Nathan of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Silverdale Stake Center, 9256 Nels Nelson Road NW.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Alice Jensen
Alice Kellogg Jensen, 90, of Bremerton died March 24, 2002, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 19, 1911, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She graduated from high school in Sulphur Springs and from the University of Colorado.
She married Ralph Christian Jensen. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jensen was a homemaker. She also had traveled with her husband, who was a captain in the Navy.
She had been a member of PEO and the Navy Officers Wives Club. She enjoyed dominoes and playing cards.
Survivors include a grandson, Kristopher Jensen and his wife, Barbara, of Woodinville; three great-grandchildren, Bryan Burgmaier and his wife, Monica, of Kirkland, Tyler Jensen of Woodinville and Wendy Norcross and her husband, Bill, of Edmonds; and one great-great-grandchild, Max Norcross of Edmonds. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
A gathering of friends and family will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the WestCoast Silverdale Hotel. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Esther Tiedeman
Former Poulsbo resident Esther Amanda (Berge) Tiedeman, 91, of Marysville died of cancer March 21, 2002, at her home.
She was born Sept. 10, 1910, in Sanborn, N.D., to Andrew Sven and Ellen Marie (Axelson) Berge. She graduated from Svea High School in Svea, N.D., in 1928, and from Valley City College in Valley City, N.D., in 1930.
She married Olav Clarence Tiedeman on Dec. 26, 1946, in Everett. He died in 1997.
Mrs. Tiedeman had been an English teacher for 17 years, retiring in 1947. She also was a homemaker.
She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Allen Tiedeman and his wife, Connie, of Poulsbo, Jim Andrew Tiedeman and his wife, Sandy, of Wenatchee and Bruce Edward Tiedeman of Marysville; two brothers, Ole Berge and his wife, Margaret, of Jamestown, N.D., and Byron Berge of Valley City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by six siblings, Oscar, Albert, Gladys, Marie, Pete and George.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home in Everett. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elim Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
