Juanito Boydon
Juanito Gavino Boydon, 61, of Silverdale died March 25, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma.
He was born May 16, 1940, in the Philippines to Andreas and Maria (Gavino) Boydon. He graduated from Malolos Bulacan High School in the Philippines in 1959 and from Olympic College in 1988. He also attended the University of the Philippines.
He married
Juanita Felix on Aug. 20, 1972, in the Philippines.
Mr. Boydon served in the Navy from 1960 until his retirement as a chief in 1986. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Juanito F. Boydon Jr. of Monterey, Calif., and Jayson F. Boydon of Silverdale; two daughters, Lisa Kaluhiwa of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Anna M. Ramos of Silverdale; two brothers, Basilio G. Boydon of the Philippines and Patricio G. Boydon of Milpitas, Calif.; four sisters, Genooeva G. Boydon of Milpitas, Maura Cababat of Anaheim, Calif., Miquela B. Quintana of the Philippines and Cristina Boydon of Italy; and six grandchildren, Jaylyn G. Boydon, Tito Ramos, Jayson R. Ramos, Preston and Dean Kaluhiwa and Jaymeh L. Boydon.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., also at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Winifred McClain
Winifred Naomi McClain, 86, of Seabeck died March 26, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William and Winifred (Murphy) Barkley. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1934.
She married
the Rev. Edward F. McClain on June 3, 1936, in Crown Point, Ind.
Mrs. McClain enjoyed homemaking, motherhood and being a minister's wife. Her main interest was her family.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sherrill Westeren and her husband, Ray, of Seabeck and Sharon Grady and her husband, Bill, of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Robert Barkley and his wife, Velda, of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Louise, and a brother, Thomas.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Community Church in Auburn. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Robert Greenleaf
Robert J. Greenleaf, 74, of Belfair died March 21, 2002, at his home of a pulmonary asbestosis-related illness.
He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Pittsfield, Mass., to Robert and Lena (Newberry) Greenleaf. He attended St. Joseph's High School in Pittsfield.
He married
Beverly Gallagher on April 5, 1952, in Pittsfield.
Mr. Greenleaf was a career Navy veteran, having served from 1946 to 1969. He retired as a boiler technician chief.
He later worked in civil service as a boiler technician and water operator at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor from 1973 to 1988. He also worked with Johnson Controls at Bangor as a water-wastewater operator-manager from 1988 until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Greenleaf was a member of American Legion Post 68, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 310 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239. He was a former volunteer fireman and ambulance driver with Belfair Fire District 2.
Mr. Greenleaf enjoyed fishing, reading, collecting and viewing movies, and traveling to Reno, Nev.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathleen of Belfair; three sons, Robert of Pleasanton, Calif., Mark of Port Angeles and Matthew of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Shirley Greenleaf and Bernice Book, both of Dalton, Mass.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, in 1955, and a sister, Beverly, in 1997.
At his request, no services will be held. His cremated remains will be buried at sea. Memorials may be made in his name to Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice, 2146 W. Railroad Ave., Suite C, Shelton, WA 98584, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Maxwell Abrams
Maxwell Abrams, 83, of Bremerton died March 23, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Boone, Iowa, to Dwight and Twyla (Twyford) Abrams.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1937 and from Tacoma Vocational Technical Institute in 1961. He also had attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
He married
Wanda Davies on April 11, 1942, in San Francisco.
Mr. Abrams served in the Navy from 1939 to 1958, achieving the rank of chief signalman. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He later became the first civilian dispatcher for the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. He joined CenCom at its inception in Bremerton, retiring as a supervisor in 1979. He had worked a total of 10 years with the sheriff's office and CenCom.
Mr. Abrams and his wife enjoyed traveling, having made trips throughout the United States.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Abrams and his wife, Donna, of Plains, Mont., and Stephen Abrams and his wife, Patricia, of Bremerton; a daughter, Serena LaBerge of Bremerton; a brother, Tom Hemphill of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Eloise Kanouse and her husband, Gary, of Bremerton.
A celebration of his life will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the home of Eloise and Gary Kanouse, 501 NE David Drive in Bremerton (across Pine Road from Holy Trinity Catholic Church).
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Donald Miner
Donald R. Miner, 60, of Port Orchard died March 25, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Wayne, Mich., to George and Betty (Hawkhead) Miner. He had earned an associate of arts degree from Olympic College.
He married
Sally J. Mueller on July 15, 1967, in Charleston, S.C.
Mr. Miner served in the Navy for 20 years as a fire control technician. He retired as a chief in 1977.
He enjoyed woodworking and computers.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff Miner of Maple Valley; two daughters, Stephanie Davis of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Stacey Vestal of Milwaukie, Ore.; a sister, Judy Aguilar of Madison Heights, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Harold Hanson
Harold "Swede" Hanson, 78, of Bremerton died March 24, 2002, at his home following a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born July 11, 1923, in Great Falls, Mont., to Sigurd and Gertrude (Blaarud) Hanson. He graduated from Ione High School in Ione in 1941.
He married
Gloria Borgen on Aug. 28, 1949, in Spokane.
Mr. Hanson served in the Army from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After World War II, Mr. Hanson moved to Bremerton where he began working for Thomas Sign Co. He continued his career as an electrical sign designer and manufacturer until 1967, when he and his wife established Hanson Sign Co. in Bremerton.
Mr. Hanson retired in 1990. Hanson Sign Co. is now owned and operated by his son, Randy Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a member of the Sons of Norway in Bremerton, the Bremerton Sportsman Club and the Bremerton Ski Cruisers. He was also a life member of Elks Lodge 1181 in Bremerton and a volunteer with the Erlands Point Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Randy Hanson and his wife, Cindy, of Bremerton; a daughter, Krista Hanson-Walker of Whidbey Island; and four grandchildren, Haylee, Carlee, Brook and Britt.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, also at Lewis, with interment following at Forest Lawn cemetery. A celebration of life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Sons of Norway in Bremerton.

Ruth Schmitt
Ruth M. Schmitt, 92, of Bremerton died March 23, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 30, 1909, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Patrick and Mary (O'Donnell) Montgomery. She was educated in Lincoln, Neb.
She married
Franklin Schmitt. He died in 1972.
Mrs. Schmitt had worked at the Sportsman Restaurant in Bremerton.
She was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, participating in Perpetual Adoration and the Young Ladies Institute. She also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include three nieces, Judy Hargreaves of Long Beach, Calif., Regina Fulton and Rochelle; and five nephews, John Hargreaves, Steve and Patrick Phillips, and Russell and Robert Fulton. She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with a Mass following at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment
will be in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Lucille Segerman
Lucille M. Segerman, 83, of Silverdale died March 26, 2002, in Silverdale.
She was born May 4, 1918, in Windsor, N.D., to Eldon and Leona (Stringfellow) Hunt.
She married
Glen D. Segerman on April 7, 1949, in Bremerton. He died in 1990.
Mrs. Segerman was last employed as a bookkeeper and in sales with Hunt Mobile Homes. She had worked in that position 13 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Hillcrest Assembly of God, participating in the Peacemakers Club there. She enjoyed crafts and making ornamental Christmas trees.
Survivors include two sons, Glen D. "Skip" Segerman Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Silverdale and Roger E. Segerman and his wife, Frieda, of Salem, Ore.; three daughters, Sharon Sutton of Kent, Barbara Cheatum of Ontario, Calif., and Chris Bleisner of Spokane; a brother, Charlie Hunt of Port Orchard; a sister, Faye Irwin of Kent; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County or to the Peacemakers Club at Hillcrest Assembly of God.
Larena Robinson
Larena Jewel Robinson, 79, of Poulsbo died Feb. 26, 2002, at Virginia Mycon's Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born June 21, 1922, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Herman and Myrtle (Hester) Toney.
She married
Elmer C. Robinson in Van Buren, Ark., in November 1938. They were married
60 years before his death in 1998.
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson had spent most of their married
life in La Habra, Calif. She had lived in Poulsbo approximately three years.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, oil painting and gardening. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Thomas and her husband, Ron, of Placentia, Calif., and Linda Poole and her husband, Tom, of Poulsbo; three grandchildren, Rob Sharp of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Randy Sharp of Placentia and Steve Baker of Memphis, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Louis and Bill Toney.
A memorial service was held at the home of her daughter Linda in Poulsbo. Arrangements were under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Ruth Strube
Ruth Louise Strube, 76, of Port Orchard died March 23, 2002, in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Port Orchard to Oswald U. and Marcia (Hawkes) Maurer. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1943 and from the Tacoma General Nursing Corps.
She married
James F. "Jim" Strube on Nov. 10, 1945, in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Strube had worked as a purchasing agent for the Navy Exchange at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 20 years.
She had served on the Port Orchard City Planning Commission. She was a member of the Puget Sound Genealogical Society and St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Carol Losey of Spanaway, Marcia Buchanan of Gig Harbor, Patricia Cummings of Petaluma, Calif., and Susan Brusch of Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Strube, in 1994 and by a brother, Sidney M. Maurer.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral Mass, also at the church. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
