Ralph Olson
Ralph Andrew Olson, 88, of Bremerton died March 6, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 16, 1913, in Seattle. He was educated in Seattle, graduating from Broadway High School and Edison Technical School.
He married
Reatha Stone in Seattle in 1934. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Mr. Olson worked approximately 35 years with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in the late 1970s. He also owned Olson TV Repair in Seattle until the early 1990s.
He enjoyed collecting stamps.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Tacoma and Harvey of Seattle; two daughters, Claudia Olson of Bainbridge Island and Patricia Hanks of Poulsbo; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold, and a sister, Alice Gearhardt, both of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church in Poulsbo. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Margaret Copland
Margaret Bertha Copland, 77, of Hoodsport died of lung and brain cancer March 6, 2002, at her daughter's home in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Mendocino, Calif., to Ernest and Bertha (Shonborn) Nolte. She graduated in 1942 from Fort Bragg High School in Fort Bragg, Calif., and from Oakland Beauty College in Oakland, Calif.
She married
Westwood R. "Wes" Copland on June 16, 1946, in Fort Bragg.
Mrs. Copland enjoyed gardening and embroidery.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Margo Copland Chalstrom and her husband Bill of Bremerton; a brother, Kurt Nolte of Fort Bragg; and two grandchildren, Ross A. Chalstrom of Shoreline and Kathryn D. Chalstrom of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Nolte, and a sister, Gertrude Swartzbacker.
A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday
at her daughter's home in Bremerton.

Gladys Sarin
Gladys May Sarin, 89, of Bainbridge Island died March 8, 2002, at Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island.
She was born May 20, 1912, in Seattle to Bainbridge Island pioneers, the Rev. Carl J. and Amy (Rhoades) Kallgren. She lived on Bainbridge Island throughout her life. She graduated in 1930 from Bainbridge High School where she played center on the girls basketball team.
She married
Wallace Sarin on Sept. 8, 1931, in Seattle. The couple built a home in Eagledale on Bainbridge Island at the height of the Great Depression and raised their family there. Mr. Sarin preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Sarin was a member of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge Island, The Amelia Hungerford Guild of Children's Hospital, the Bainbridge Island Senior Center and the Evergreen Singers.
Her interests included gardening, raising orchids, photography, painting, fishing, traveling and sports. She was an enthusiastic Bainbridge sports fan, attending many youth sports activities from Little League to high school.
Survivors include a son, Jack and his wife, Vicki, of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Judy Wright of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Cyril, Kenneth, Earl and Ralph Kallgren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bainbridge Island Senior Center or to Children's Hospital.
Donald Munroe
Donald A. Munroe, 82, of Poulsbo died March 5, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Canso, Nova Scotia, to Harvey and Rena (Snow) Munroe. He graduated from Everett High School in Everett, Mass., in 1937 and from Olympic College in 1971.
He married
Darlene Jensen on Jan. 15, 1944, in Keyport.
Mr. Munroe served in the Army from 1941 to 1967, attending War College and Command and General Staff School. He retired as a colonel, having received the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit award.
Following his military career, he owned a construction company, Munroe and Sons in Poulsbo, from 1970 until 1980.
Mr. Munroe enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He had been a member of the Baptist church and attended Keyport Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven Munroe and his wife Debbie and Barry Munroe and his wife Marina, all of Poulsbo; two daughters, Donene Munroe of Poulsbo and Dianne Munroe of Seattle; a sister, Constance Bowe of Billerica, Mass.; and nine grandchildren, Serene, Julie, Sam, Lisa, Bryan, Bryce, Chase, Aubrey and Kenny.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Keyport Bible Church. Memorial donations may be made to North Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
Roy Johnston
Roy C. Johnston, 85, of Port Orchard died March 6, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 16, 1916, in Terry, Mont. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1932.
He married
Harriet I. Buchert on Aug. 5, 1947, in Yakima. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Johnston served in the Navy during World War II. He was a chief petty officer serving aboard the USS Beaverhead.
Following his military service, he was a maintenance engineer in the hotel industry, retiring in the early 1980s.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnne V. Robinson and her husband Bob of Mukilteo and Gail D. Nealon and her husband, Michael, of Lynnwood; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
No services are planned. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Albert Sokytis
Albert J. Sokytis, 80, of Port Orchard died of kidney failure March 6, 2002, at the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil.
He was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Bremerton to Anthony and Mary Ann (Miller) Sokytis. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
He married
Margot Ingeborg Plesse on April 7, 1956, in Mannhein, Germany.
Mr. Sokytis served in the Army from 1940 to 1945 during World War II. He later was an ordnance mechanic at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and gardening. He was a member of the Catholic church.
He is survived by his wife.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Fern Allison
Fern Allison, 88, of Bremerton died March 2, 2002, at Keepsake Cottage in Bremerton.
She was born June 3, 1913, in Whiterock, British Columbia, to George and Leola (Shaw) McMaster. She was raised in Bellingham, graduating from Whatcom High School there in 1932.
She majored in English at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., graduating in 1946. She received a master's in Christian education in 1948 from Berkeley Baptist Divinity School in Berkeley, Calif.
She married
William H. Allison on Sept. 18, 1948, in Everett. He preceded her in death in 1994.
In her professional life, she taught English, wrote newspaper articles and was a secretary. She also wrote short stories and Bible teaching materials for children.
She and her husband, who was a pastor, ministered at churches in Gerber, Calif.; Spokane; Tacoma; American Falls, Idaho; Cashmere; and Yreka, Calif. She often played the piano or taught Sunday school and children's church.
She moved to Bremerton in 1996, attending Navy Yard City Bible Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, ice cream, gardening and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee of Nashua, N.H.; a sister, Ruth Lamka of Orinda, Calif.; three nieces, Rhoda Gage of Bremerton, Beth Lamka of Louisville, Ky., and Lynn Lamka of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and three nephews, Allen Moore of Poulsbo, Bruce Lamka of Seattle and Gene Lamka of Santa Rosa, Calif.
Inurnment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford, Ore. A memorial service will be at Navy Yard City Bible Church at a later date.
Keith Hale
Keith "K.C." Hale, 38, of Port Orchard died March 5, 2002, in Port Orchard.
He was born July 26, 1963, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to Thomas and Glenda (McKenner) Hale.
He married
Maria C. Lafazia on Nov. 18, 1989, in Bremerton.
Mr. Hale was a carpenter for 20 years.
He enjoyed playing guitar and writing poetry. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sinclair View Ward, in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Basin, Wyo.; three daughters, Amy and Sheena Avila and Kayleigh Hale, all of Port Orchard; two sons, Bo and Casey Hale; two brothers, Tom Hale of Three Forks, Mont., and William Hale of Port Orchard; and one sister, Shandra Hale of Red Lodge, Mont. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Avila; and a brother, Jeff.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Belfair Ward Building, E160 Victor Cut-Off Road in Belfair. Interment
will be at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.

Norma Bennett
Norma Clare Bennett, 93, of Port Orchard died March 4, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Oct. 30, 1908, in Afton, Okla., to David Earl and Blanche Lorrell (Adcox) Rosenbarger. She graduated from Union High School in Bremerton in 1926.
She married
Willard Bennett in 1934 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Bennett was a bank clerk for First Federal Savings & Loan in Bremerton. She and her husband owned Service Fuel Co. in Bremerton from 1935 to 1970.
She was a member of the Ladies of Elks, the Winter Dance Club and First United Methodist Church, all in Bremerton.
She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and was an avid Husky fan.
Survivors include a son, James of Port Orchard; a daughter, Barbara Dully of Belfair; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 1150 Marine Drive in Bremerton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Frances Durland
Frances Mary Lawrence Durland, 90, of Port Orchard and formerly of Bremerton, died March 4, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born May 7, 1911, in Springfield, Vt., to Dr. Harry H. and Pearl (Richmond) Lawrence. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1929 and attended Bradford Junior College near Boston.
Mrs. Durland had been a homemaker. She also was a house mother at a girl's school in Cape Cod, Mass.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, had been active in service organizations for animals and humane societies and was an advocate for hospice organizations in Connecticut.
She was an avid golfer and a ham radio operator. She also enjoyed music, bridge, swimming and walking.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara V. Holland and her husband, Wayne, of Bremerton; and a granddaughter, Kelly Bisson. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Durland; a brother, John G. Lawrence; and a sister, Barbara Lawrence.
Inurnment will be in the family plot at Summer Hills cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
