Mary MacColl
Mary Alice MacColl, 73, of Bremerton died April 5, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Bremerton to Carroll and Mildred (Lindberg) Brown. She attended school in Bremerton, graduating as salutatorian of Bremerton High School's first graduating class in 1946.
She married
Joe T. MacColl in Bremerton in 1954. He died in 1999.
Mrs. MacColl was one of the founding members of the Bremerton Symphony, joining the symphony at age 13 and continuing to be an active member for more than 50 years.
She was a longtime member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club and was active in ladies golf locally for many years. She also enjoyed skiing and was a member of the Bremerton Ski Cruisers.
She served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and the Puget Sound Blood Bank.
Survivors include a son, Richard J. Vlist of Port Orchard; a daughter, Mary Jo Huff of Bremerton; a sister, Linda M. Garrison of Prineville, Ore.; two granddaughters, Heidi Vlist of Port Orchard and Morgan Huff of Bremerton; a grandson, Brian Huff of Bremerton; and three nieces, Kristi Redd of Klamath Falls, Ore., Lori Meadows of Prineville and Tami Richey of Hillsboro, Ore.
Inurnment is under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date and published by the family.

Robert Bardwell Wickes
Robert Bardwell Wickes, 79, of Bremerton died April 13, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Ontario, N.Y., to Philip Bardwell and Marian (Libbert) Wickes. He graduated from Rochester High School in Roches-ter, N.Y., in 1940 and received a degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1949.
He married
Virgie Olmstead on Dec. 18, 1948, in Cincinnati.
Mr. Wickes served in the Navy as a pilot during World War II, remaining in the Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1983. He achieved the rank of commander.
He also was a design engineer with Vought Air-craft in Dallas for 40 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Wickes enjoyed flying and mountain climbing. He was a member of St. Charles Episcopal Church in Pouls-bo.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Philip B. and Henry H., both of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Beatrice M. Ellison, Meredith C. Shepardson and Carolyn R. Lacy, all of Austin, and Alison M. Groves of Carlsbad, Calif.; a sister, Marcia Jacob of Quincy; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Austin later. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Geneva Hudson
Geneva Beatrice Hudson, 66, of Bremerton died April 15, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 16, 1936, in Ponca City, Okla., to Ernest Waller and Judith Beatrice (Coley) Cole. She graduated from Afton High School in Afton, Okla., in 1954 and attended Olympic College.
She had worked as a secretary, retiring in 1986.
She was a versatile painter and craft artisan. She also served as a mentor in the recovering AA community.
Survivors include a son, Tom Hickerson of Bremerton; two daughters, Lisa Smith of Gorst and Brenda Humphreys of Belfair; two brothers, Maynard Cole of Oklahoma and Derrell Cole of Bremer-ton; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Judith Hickerson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 28 at Ninth and McKenzie in Bremerton.
Bernadette Fitzpatrick
Bernadette Mary Fitzpatrick, 50, of Poulsbo died April 12, 2002, in Poulsbo.
She was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Dublin, Ireland, to Gerard and Sheila (Tynon) Hardy. She completed ninth grade at Loretta College (primary school) in Dublin.
She married
James D. Fitzpatrick on Aug. 18, 1973, in Dublin.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a homemaker. She enjoyed singing and dancing.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two daughters, Sacheem M. and Sharelle T. Fitzpatrick, both of Carlsbad, Calif.; a brother, Gerard Hardy and his wife, Geraldine, and Harry Hardy and his wife, Caroline, all of Dublin; three sisters, Kathleen Sweeney and her husband, Edward, of Wexford, Ireland, Eileen Gerritsen and her husband, Jan, of Germany, and Marian Hardy of Dublin.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove, 22272 Foss Road NE in Poulsbo, followed by a rosary there at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo.

Ed Pearson
John "Ed" Pearson, 84, of Port Orchard died April 16, 2002, in Port Orchard following a long-term illness.
He was born April 29, 1917, in Butte, Mont., to Erick and Minnie (Lind) Pearson. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1935.
He married
Della Knight on Oct. 20, 1940, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Pearson served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a machinist's mate first class. He later was a mail carrier in Port Orchard for 35 years, retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Reite of Port Orchard; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Maggelson, and a brother, Harold Pearson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., also at Rill Chapel.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Gladys Hewitt
Gladys Hewitt, 83, of Tracyton died April 14, 2002, at her home.
She was born July 12, 1918, in Meadowdale to Carrie Merriman.
She married
Joseph M. Hewitt in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Hewitt enjoyed her family and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Karin Shoemaker of Bremerton and Patricia Stevens of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, no services will be held.

Katherine Swan
Katherine Swan, 88, of Port Orchard died April 9, 2002, in Port Orchard.
She was born July 17, 1913, in Evanston, Ill. She grew up in Manette.
She married
Carl W. Bell. The couple lived in Manette throughout their marriage. Mr. Bell preceded her in death in 1962.
The following year she married
Arthur Swan and, upon his retirement, they moved to Union where they enjoyed fishing and crabbing on Hood Canal and ballroom dancing.
When Mr. Swan died in 1996, Mrs. Swan moved to Port Orchard.
Survivors include two daughters, Carla Fischer of Seattle and Kathy Bates of Port Orchard; four step-children, Lawrence and Edward Swan and Louann Morris, all of Bremerton, and Lynn Hume of Seabeck; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mary Shelly
Mary Shelly, 94, of Bremerton died April 15, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1907, in Seattle to Nickola and Adalaide (Gattavano) Mangini. She was educated in Seattle.
She married
Milton M. Shelly on Dec. 31, 1926, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1954.
Mrs. Shelly and her husband had owned Milt's Donut Shop in Bremerton.
She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Elks.
Survivors include two sons, Art Shelly and his wife, Carol, and Jim Shelly and his wife, Maxine, all of Bremerton; six grand-children; and 15 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by three brothers and her twin sister.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Clifford Jensen
Clifford N. Jensen, 91, of Poulsbo died April 12, 2002, in Poulsbo.
He was born Feb. 4, 1911, in Poulsbo to Christian and Nellie (Tarlsen) Jensen. He completed the eighth grade, then worked to help support his family and continued to live on the family farm in Poulsbo for most of his life.
He married
Amanda Noll on June 7, 1935, in Seattle.
Mr. Jensen worked for 29-1/2 years as a blacksmith at the Keyport Torpedo Station and at the Naval Station Bangor, retiring from Bangor in 1961 as head of the heat treating department. In his retire-ment, he was a grounds-keeper with the North Kitsap School District.
His family was the primary focus of his life.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching the Mariners. He attended Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sally Simms, Nancy Erstad and her husband, Doug, and Peggy Stanley and her husband, David, all of Poulsbo; two sisters, Barbara Page of Texas and Colleen Swanson of Poulsbo; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; and six great-great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Buddy and Kenny; and two sisters, Francis Iverson and Edna Smith.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Memorial Church.

Slim Otis
Eli "Slim" Otis, 76, of Bremerton died April 14, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born June 15, 1925, in Carson, Miss., to James and Alberta (Hall) Otis. He graduated from Jonesville High School in Jonesville, La., in 1943, and received an engineering degree from Greer Technical School in Dwight, Ill., in 1973.
He married
Joann Engler on Feb. 18, 1956, in Bremerton.
Mr. Otis was a general foreman with Bremer's Inc. in Bremerton for 36 years.
He was an artist, enjoyed nature and had been a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Eric and Dwight Otis, both of Bremerton, Tyrone Otis of Cleveland and Dwayne Otis of Los Angeles; two daughters, Karla (Otis) Roach of Los Angeles and LaTanya (Otis) Lucas of Issaquah; three brothers, Jesse Otis Sr. of Bremerton, Ray Otis of Raymond and Willie Otis of Seattle; five sisters, Estella Finister and Dorothy Otis, both of Bremerton, Sylvia Odom of Seattle, Alberta Koehler of Auburn and Ann Sharpley of Kent; and nine grand-children.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Ruth Hawkins
Ruth W. Hawkins, 85, of Bremerton died April 12, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Seattle to Max and Hattie (Schlatter) Gosseling. Her parents divorced in her early childhood. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, John Madson.
She graduated from high school in Silverdale in 1936 and from Wilson's Modern Business College in Seattle in 1937.
She married
LeRoy Williamson Sr. on Sept. 3, 1937, in Bremerton. They were later divorced, and he preceded her in death in 1994.
She married
James Hawkins in August 1956 in Bremerton. He died in 1979.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, Aurilla Rebekah Lodge 133 of the International Order of Odd Fellows, the f:67 Camera Club, the Bremerton Art Guild, Ladies of Elks Lodge 1181, the Sons of Norway, the Bremerton Home Arts and Science Club, the Good Sam RV Club, the Holly Community Club, the Mycological Society, the Rainier Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include a son, LeRoy Williamson Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, of Bremerton; three stepsons, James G. Hawkins of Bremerton, Robert Hawkins of Port Orchard and Donald Hawkins of Kent; five stepdaughters, Margaret White of Kennewick, Joyce Swanson of Anchorage, Alaska, Ruth Kilburn of Everett, DeLana Cox of Bremerton and Mary Anne Nettekoven of Seattle; two grandchildren; 29 stepgrand-children; 58 stepgreat-grand-children; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Madson, in February 2002 at the age of 107; a sister, Wini-fred Brooks; two brothers, Max and Richard Madson; and two stepchildren, Neil Hawkins and Nellie Hughes.
