Arthur Phillips
Arthur B. Phillips, 75, of Bremerton died of a stroke April 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1926, in West Warwick, R.I., to Emory L. and Mary Rose A. (Theroux) Phillips. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1955 and from Olympic College in 1956.
He married
Ramona Rose Winger on April 10, 1950, in Bremerton. She died in 1996.
Mr. Phillips served in the Navy from 1943 to 1951. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea.
After his military service, he was a commercial electrician for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 46 in Bremerton.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. He also was a Seahawks fan and enjoyed shuffleboard.
Survivors include three sons, Rick of Brooklyn, N.Y., Scott of Marysville and Brad of Bremerton; a daughter, Terri Hammock of Bremerton; a brother, Emory of Wakefield, R.I.; three sisters, Lillian Rhea and Irene McKee, both of Florida, and Dorothy Reynolds of California; a sister-in-law, Mildred Wheeler of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Larry; two sisters, Thelma Cockrum and Beatrice Phillips; and three brothers-in-law, Elmo, Mel and Bill Winger, all of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road NE in Bremerton. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at 5011 NW Gustafson in Silverdale.
Flowers may be sent to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Those wishing to make memorial donations in lieu of flowers, also may send their donations to Holy Trinity.
Connie Bethge
Former Port Orchard resident Cornelia A. "Connie" Bethge, 89, of Vancouver, Wash., died April 8, 2002, in Vancouver.
She was born July 1, 1912, in Foley, Ala., to Fred Carl and Louise Rose (Goehle) Heintz.
She married
Louis Bethge in 1944 in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Bethge worked in the shipyards in Tacoma during World War II. In addition, she enjoyed serving as a foster mother to more than 20 children.
Her hobbies were farming and growing flowers. She also had been an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard until her health declined.
She is survived by two grandchildren, including Ramona Fisher of Vancouver; and a niece, Dolores Furenstenau of Vancouver. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Paul and Roland; and a foster daughter, Cheryl.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a 1:30 p.m. funeral service at Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard and a 3 p.m. burial at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Donald Short
Donald M. Short, 74, of Port Ludlow died of leukemia March 27, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1927, in Eugene, Ore.
He married
Lynette Schweigert on Nov. 16, 1979, in Drain, Ore.
Mr. Short was a real estate investor until his retirement.
He enjoyed vintage cars. He was a member of several local car clubs as well as the National Horseless Carriage Club.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Barry Schweigert of Junction City, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Schweigert of Seattle and Robin Hobart of Nampa, Idaho; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Private interment took place April 4 at Franklin cemetery in Franklin, Ore. Arrangements were under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Edna Rust
Edna Venice Rust, 88, of Bainbridge Island died April 10, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 27, 1914, in Modesto, Calif., to Clarence V.R. and Lola (Kolb) Loudon. She graduated from Modesto High School in 1932.
She married
Lawrence L. Rust on Feb. 15, 1937, in Sacramento, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Rust was a payroll supervisor in the finance department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of The Light Of The Cross Lutheran Church in Bothell. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, bingo and bowling.
Survivors include a son, Ron and his wife, Mary, of Bremerton; a daughter, Carole Smith of Lynnwood; eight grandchildren, Duane Rust, Terri Nicklin, Roni Beatty, Elizabeth Gray, David Rust, Rachael Boe, Nichole Smith and Janelle Roberts; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 20 at Lewis Funeral Chapel with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Don Gallup
Gaunce "Don" Gallup, 77, of Bremerton died April 6, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 31, 1925, in Ferndale to Hanford R.T. and Anna L. (McDonald) Gallup. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943.
Mr. Gallup was a battery technician with General Motors Delco Division, until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 151 in Bellingham, Valley of Bremerton Scottish Rite and Garden Grove Shriners 4693.
Survivors include two sons, David and George, both of Texas; a daughter, Leanna Matthews and her husband, James, of Castle, Calif.; three sisters, Grace Blanger of Bremerton and Bonnie Brooks and her husband, Frank, and Arbutus Kendall, all of Bellingham; and nine grandchildren.
Services will take place at a later date. Inurnment will be in Bayview cemetery in Bellingham. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Howard Goode
Howard Warren Goode, 85, of Poulsbo died April 4, 2002, in Poulsbo.
He was born March 25, 1917, in Oakland, Calif., to Charles C. and Alma O. (Ellis) Goode. He graduated from high school in Oakland and from the University of California-Berkeley.
Mr. Goode served in the Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. He later worked in civil service.
He married
Dorothy June Yackel on March 4, 1984, in Sutter Creek, Calif.
Mr. Goode was an avid spectator at baseball's spring training in Peoria, Ariz. He also enjoyed travel.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Howard of Texas and Charles of California; a daughter, Lesley DeJanovich and her husband, Owen, of Arizona; three stepdaughters, Dianne Moyer and her husband, Rod, of California, Catherine Fike and her husband, Roger, of Poulsbo, and Cynthia Arnold of California; a twin brother, David and his wife, Joan Marie, of California; two other brothers, Ellis and his wife, Betty,
and Ray and his wife, Betty Ann, all of California; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Lance, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Arnold.
Memorial services are pending. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Ethel Berry
Ethel J. Berry, 95, of Silverdale died April 9, 2002, in Poulsbo.
She was born Sept. 16, 1906, in Ontario, Canada, to Clifford Vernon and Christina (Munro) Peters.
She married
Al Berry. He preceded her in death in 1960.
Mrs. Berry had been self-employed as a dairy farmer for more than 30 years. She was retired.
She was a member of Silverdale Bible Church, Silverdale Baptist Church and Scandia Bible Church.
Survivors include a son, Gordon of Port Townsend; a daughter, Evelyn Moroney of Gilbert, Ariz.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Vincent Bouthillier
Vincent Edward Bouthillier, 33, of Silverdale died April 4, 2002, in Silverdale.
He was born July 26, 1968, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Steven R. and Joan M. (Fitzpatrick) Bouthillier. He had attended Bremerton High School.
Mr. Bouthillier had worked as a general laborer. He enjoyed cars and music.
He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include a son, Levi W. of Yelm; a daughter, Britnie J. of Yelm; a brother, Steven and his wife, Endy, of Sacra-mento, Calif.; a sister, Stacy Bouthillier of Boston; and his grandmother, Mary Fitzpatrick of Bremerton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. The Mass will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Anne Hendricks
Anne E. Hendricks, 70, of Bremerton died April 8, 2002, in Bremerton of lymphoma.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Trinidad, Colo., to Elmer and Louise Sherfick. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1949.
She married
Dale W. Hendricks on July 4, 1952, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Hendricks was a grocery checker with Safeway for 13 years. She retired in 1987.
She was a member of Poulsbo Community Church where she was active in Women's Ministries and the Bible Study Fellowship. Other interests included sewing, knitting, crochet, gardening, cooking and her dog Kobie.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dean and his fiancee, Denise Waters, of San Leandro, Calif., and Brent and his wife, Linda, of Bremerton; two brothers, Don Sherfick and his wife, Charline, of Denver and Russel Sherfick and his wife, Debbie, of Willow, Alaska; four grandchildren, Jodean, Daniel, Sarah and Brian; and one great-grandchild, Alia.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.
