Myrtle Nelson
Myrtle J. Nelson, 89, of Port Orchard died April 5, 2002, at Shoreline View Alzheimer's Care.
She was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Olalla to David and Inga (Rongen) Carlson. Her grandparents were Olalla pioneers, homesteading in 1880. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1931.
She married
Eric Nelson on July 3, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Ron of Purdy; two daughters, Nancy Lyman of Port Orchard and Sharon Stephens of Woodland; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her twin sister, Ethel Olund; two brothers, Lee and Alvin Carlson; and a granddaughter, Leila Nelson.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor.

Kathryn Ada Crouch
Former Bremerton resident Kathryn Ada Crouch, 85, of Arvada, Colo., died March 22, 2002.
She was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Manette to William N. and Ada (Miller) Frender. She graduated from Silverdale High School in 1936.
She married
Jule R. Crouch on July 13, 1940. He preceded her in death.
She retired from Western Electric in Denver.
Survivors include a son, William H. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Thelma Labertew of Arvada; two brothers, Robert of Bremerton and John of Port Orchard; and two granddaughters. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Gus, James and Richard.
Dorothy Anderson
Dorothy Esther (Benskin) Anderson, 79, of Bremerton died April 7, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center of complications from a stroke.
She was born May 10, 1922, in Nevada, Mo., to Delbert C. and Juanita (Segal) Benskin. She graduated from Bremerton High School and, in 1945, from a Seattle nursing school.
She had worked as a licensed practical nurse in many hospitals and nursing homes.
She married
Albert Anderson on Nov. 13, 1982, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of Silverdale Lutheran Church. She traveled extensively and enjoyed knitting, crochet and singing.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Smith of Olalla and Albert Smith Jr. of Poulsbo; two daughters, Mary Burch of Bremerton and Jonita Tederman; two brothers, Bud Benskin of Eldorado Springs, Mo., and Bill Benskin of Port Orchard; two sisters, Evelyn Barker of Colville and Anita Buchanan of Port Orchard; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children. She also was preceded in death by four siblings, Nellie Danielson of Bremerton, and George, Ida Mae and Clarence Benskin.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, both at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A reception precedes the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rill Chapel. Entombment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Bud Scott
H.G. "Bud" Scott, 67, of Port Orchard died April 5, 2002, in Seattle of a brain aneurysm.
He was born April 17, 1934, in Powell, Wyo., to Maurice L. and Violet (Sanders) Scott. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1953 and received an associate degree in science from Olympic College in 1960.
He married
JoAnn Housen on April 25, 1954.
Mr. Scott served in the Army from 1954 to 1957, achieving the rank of corporal. He was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division.
He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring in 1990 as a supervisory metals inspector.
Mr. Scott was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Spirit of Life Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. His church involvement had included mission work.
He enjoyed adventure through travel, scuba diving, fishing, hunting and golf. He also had flown ultralight planes.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, now of Bremerton; a son, Jeff and his wife, Cindy, of Bremerton; two daughters, Connie Woodward and her husband, Bob Haas, of Longview, and Debra LeFave of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Robert L. of Bremerton and Donald V. of George; and five grand-children. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Cork.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday on Harstine Island under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Jerry Cross
Jerry R. Cross, 60, of Belfair died April 7, 2002, at his home of lung cancer.
He was born April 26, 1941, in Tabernash, Colo., to Julius and Nellie (Estes) Cross. He was educated in Stockton, Calif.
He married
Jerrie L. Rooks on Jan. 3, 1970, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Cross operated Airport Auto Wrecking in Port Orchard for many years.
He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Other interests were playing guitar and games of chance.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian Doughty of Belfair; a daughter, Denise Gargano of Bremerton; three sisters, Jecquetta Baker of Port Orchard, Fern Bratcher of New Mexico and Beverly Hooper of Okla-homa; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick Doughty; and two sisters, Cherry Ingram and Jenell Ross.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Belfair Assembly of God, followed by a funeral service at noon. Interment
will be in Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Clara Saunders
Clara Irene Saunders, 84, of Bremerton died April 1, 2002, at her home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Entiat Valley to Leroy and Laura (Murdock) Foote.
She married
James Linder in Reno, Nev., in the 1970s.
Her career history included nursing at Harrison Hospital, employment at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and managerial positions with the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce and the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce.
In 1965, she had a major role, along with Dr. Frank Rosendale, in developing the Crisis Clinic of Kitsap County (now called the Crisis Clinic of the Peninsulas, serving Kitsap, Clallam and Jefferson counties). She also enjoyed writing, having published poetry and stories.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, David Saunders of Port Orchard and Eugene Kerlee of Port Angeles; two daughters, Nancy Marie Kerlee and Dianne Lee Wetterlind, both of Bremerton; one stepson, James D. Linder of Redmond; one stepdaughter, Valarie D. Linder Wolf of Bremerton; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Jean Owens, in 1989 and by a stepson, Randall Linder.
At her request, no services will be held. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Robert Ewell
Robert Lee Ewell, 88, of Bremerton died March 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital from post-surgical complications.
He was born Jan. 28, 1914, in Sequim. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1932.
He married
Adrienne Cook on Aug. 30, 1937, in Bremerton. She died in 1991.
Mr. Ewell had worked as an electrician and instrument mechanic at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years. He retired in 1976.
He was a member of Charleston Baptist Church in Bremerton. He also was a devoted Mariners fan.
Survivors include one son, Robert C. Ewell of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, Robert of Auburn, Andrew of Poulsbo, David of Redmond, and Patrick of Bremerton; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia L. Swanson, and a brother, Charlie Ewell.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Charleston Baptist Church.

Jean Elverson
Former Bremerton resident Jean L. Elverson, 82, of La Grande, Ore., died March 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Albion, Idaho, to Robert and Della (Alcanta) Scanlan. She graduated from Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho, in 1937 and from Links School of Business in Boise, Idaho.
She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant.
She married
Elver G. Elverson on April 10, 1945, in Nyack, N.Y. He died in 1987.
Mrs. Elverson was a bookkeeper for more than 40 years, retiring in 1986.
She enjoyed gardening and crochet. She was a member of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Gayla Elverson of Bremerton; one brother, Edward Scanlan of Elgin, Ill.; and one sister, Jessie Sandy of Shoshone, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Roy Scanlan.
A memorial service will be at a later date in La Grande with interment in Gooding.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Harold Pickard
Harold Othel Pickard, 86, of Bremerton died April 3, 2002, in Poulsbo.
He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Cottonwood, Iowa, to Blaine and Rose (Kinney) Pickard. He graduated from high school in Franklin, Iowa.
He married
Letha Berniece Gillespie on Aug. 28, 1938, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She died in 1999.
Mr. Pickard served in the Navy from 1934 to 1940 as a coxswain. He later was a sailmaker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement.
He had served on the Bremerton School Board for eight years and was a past master of Masonic Lodge 269. He enjoyed winemaking and stamp collecting.
Survivors include two sons, Jon B. Pickard and his wife, Carol, of Riverside, Calif., and Alan L. Pickard and his wife, Mary, of Silverdale; one daughter, Cheryl L. Pickard of Bremerton; two sisters, Ruth Voyer of Donaldson, Iowa, and Velma Kimbrell of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
At Mr. Pickard's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Ken Osen
Ken Erwin Osen, 65, of Bremerton died April 4, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born April 19, 1936, in Glasgow, Mont., to Olav Bernard and Nina Violet (Jensen) Osen. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1956.
Mr. Osen served in the Army from 1957 to 1963, achieving the rank of sergeant. He later was a service representative for Diversey Lever Corp.
He married
MaryAnne Zublasing on April 20, 1989, in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
He enjoyed aviation and playing darts. He was an experimental aircraft pilot and a first master with the Olympic Dart League.
Mr. Osen was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry W. Osen of Purdy; two daughters, Jeanette R. Fate and her husband, Brian, of Port Orchard, and Linda M. Osen of Jackson, Calif.; one stepson, Kelly R. Gardner and his wife, Julie, of Allyn; one stepdaughter, Katy L. Gardner of Las Vegas; one brother, Burt Osen and his wife, Wilda, of Glasgow; one sister, Carol Villanes of Olympia; two grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
