Ancilla Tripp
Ancilla Tripp, 87, of Port Orchard died April 1, 2002, at Messenger House on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Italy to Valentino and Mary (Savio) Gabino.
She married
Harold E. Tripp. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Tripp was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include one son, Val Milan of British Columbia; and one daughter, Teresa Murray of Seattle.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Lester Backlund
Lester Albin Backlund, 76, of Poulsbo died April 2, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1925, in Hyas, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Gust Albin and Eleanor (Sewell) Backlund. He attended schools in Port Ludlow and Chimacum, graduating from Chimacum High School in 1943. He also graduated from the University of Washington.
Mr. Backlund served as an ensign in the Navy during World War II and in Korea.
He and his wife, Muriel, were married
in Poulsbo in 1960. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Backlund taught math at North Kitsap High School for many years, retiring in 1980. After his retirement, he owned and operated a sawmill, producing custom-cut logs.
He was a member of a clock collectors guild and helped build the original Poulsbo Yacht Club, where he was a member and sailed his boat, the Lune, from Poulsbo to Alaska.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Mikkelborg and her husband, John, of Poulsbo and Pat Dinger and her husband, Dan, of Republic; one cousin, Myrna Cooper of Vancouver, Canada; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo. Inurnment will be at Vinland Lutheran Church cemetery in Poulsbo.

Bertha Roach
Bertha Mae Roach, 72, of Bremerton died March 31, 2002, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center of cancer.
She was born April 23, 1929, in Westminster, S.C., to Charles and Maudie (Bowman) Roach.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and bingo. She was Pentacostal.
Survivors include one daughter, Maudie L. Alford of Las Vegas; one sister, Nellie Ruth Guerri of Bridgeport, Conn.; two grandchildren, Joi Graupmann of Poulsbo and John Alley of Seattle; and four great-grandchildren, Emilie and Jadey Gentry, both of Everett, Simon Alley of Seattle and Sam Lynn. She was preceded in death by a brother, William David Roach.
Services are private. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Raymond Olson
Raymond Albert Olson, 72, of Bremerton died March 28, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Arthur Lorenzo and Della Mary (Marsh) Olson. He attended high school in Bremerton.
Mr. Olson served in the Army during World War II.
He married
Marlene Faye Wahl-Hansen on July 5, 1957, in Sequim. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Olson worked as a brick and stone mason for 40 years, retiring in the mid-1990s.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include three sons, Michael, Allen and Brad, all of Bremerton; two daughters, Cherie Olson of Huron, S.D., and Rhonda Olson of Bremerton; two sisters, Cloeen J. LaFazia of Bremerton and Iona J. Sund of Maple Valley; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held later.
Memorial donations may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund or to Disabled American Veterans.
Ronald Bachel
Ronald Steven Bachel, 66, of Bremerton died March 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Minot, N.D., to Ralph and Mildred (Bowman) Bachel. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1955 and attended Olympic College.
Mr. Bachel worked for an auto supply warehouse in Tacoma. He retired in 1980.
He enjoyed cribbage and following his favorite sports teams. He was raised in the Catholic faith.
Survivors include three sons, Steve and Edwar, and his wife, Barbara, all of Tacoma, and Joseph of Snohomish County; two daughters, Denise Runyan and her husband, Ron, of Mount Vernon, and Linda Harms and her husband, Barris, of Tacoma; one brother; and six grandchildren, Daniel, William "Billy, " Tyler and Alexandria "Alex" Bachel and Tiffany and Alee'a Harms.
Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Clair Gillette
Clair F. Gillette, 90, of Port Orchard died April 1, 2002, in Port Orchard of heart failure.
He was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Louis and Josephine Gillette. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1929.
He and his wife, Mary Jane, were married
May 23, 1938, in Sioux Falls.
Mr. Gillette was the first mailman on the Alaska Highway, working from 1942 to 1943. He also was a restaurant owner for 35 years.
He was a member of the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and classic cars.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James L. Gillette of LaConner; one daughter, Mary Clair Schoenfeldt of Marysville; seven grandchildren; and
20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Clair Gillette.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. April 13 at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Norma Denton
Norma M. Denton, 82, of Bremerton died March 27, 2002, at the home of her son, Wayne, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Rugby, N.D., to Norman and Lillian Clark. She was raised and educated in Church's Ferry, N.D. She attended Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot, N.D.
She served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1940 to 1943, achieving the rank of lieutenant. She was stationed at Fort Raymond, Alaska, where she met her husband, Charles K. Denton.
Mrs. Denton attended Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton. She was active in the Silverdale Guild of Children's Hospital in Seattle and assisted the Puget Sound Blood Bank in drawing blood.
She enjoyed playing golf, swimming and craft work. She also was a member of Fat Ladies.
Survivors include her son, Wayne of Bremerton; one daughter, Judith Fletcher of Eagle River, Alaska; one sister, Peggy Overland of Church's Ferry; her stepmother, Christine Clark of Cando, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; a grandson, Jeffrey Smith, in 1982; and a son, Bill, in 2000.
At her request, no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital or to Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.
Lela Sharp
Lela Talmadge Sharp, 89, of Bremerton died March 27, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 23, 1912, in DeKalb, Texas, to John Frank and Frances Lela (Berry) Garth. She graduated from Garland High School in DeKalb and attended Olympic College.
She married
Henry Harvey Sharp on Aug. 25, 1932, in Garden City, Texas. They moved to Bremerton in 1944. Mr. Sharp preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Sharp enjoyed sewing, crochet, her Thursday Bible study and church and community volunteer work. Since 1952, she had been an active member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bremerton, serving in many capacities.
She also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Kitsap Democratic Women's Club, the YWCA of Kitsap County, Madrona Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Cascadian Assembly 46 of the Order of the Golden Circle and Tabitha Court 197 of Heroines of Jericho.
Mrs. Sharp was the recipient of the Women's Missionary Society Cleo B. Love Hall of Recognition award and the YWCA of Kitsap County certificate of appreciation for volunteer services.
Survivors include six daughters, Coquese Cooper of Mira Loma, Calif., Faustine Wilson and Susie Lee, both of San Diego, Sylvia Oaks and Margaret Sharp, both of Dallas, and Cynthia Elliott of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Iralee Robinson of Dallas; one brother-in-law, Leo Sharp; sisters-in-law, Della Nelson and her husband, Elvernal, and Doretha and Bobbie Garth; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Marcus Cooper; one daughter, Phyllis Jacquelyn Sharp; and brothers Charles and John Frank Garth.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Lance Tromley
Lance LeRay Tromley, 59, of Bremerton died April 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Hartford, Conn., to Robert and Mazie (Parker) Tromley.
He married
Wanda Darbro in Bremerton.
Mr. Tromley had worked as a fiberglass boat maker for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lance LeRay Jr. of Enid, Okla., and Evin Lee of Bremerton; one sister, Sharrell Lee of Bremerton; and six grandchildren, Rebecca, Erica, Joshua, Jesse, Jordan and Shane.
A memorial gathering will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the family home in Bremerton. Cremation is under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Grace Evelyn
Rose Ballein
Grace Evelyn Rose Ballein, the infant daughter of Nathan and Elaine (Johnson) Ballein of Bremerton, was stillborn April 2, 2002, at Harrison Hospital-Silverdale.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Kyle and Geoffrey Ballein, both of Bremerton; grandparents, Gerald and Lorna Ballein of Everett and Elliott and Terese Johnson of Bremerton; great-grandparents, Lillian Nelson of Bremerton and Geoffrey Nelson of Oregon; three aunts, Deirdre Ballein and Christy Hermann, both of Everett, and Peggy Loebl of Oregon; two uncles, Jeffrey Ballein and his wife, Stacie, of California and Michael Johnson of Bremerton.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Margarete Brown
Margarete Helene Brown, 82, of Silverdale died March 31, 2002, at Northwoods Lodge from post-surgery complications.
She was born June 29, 1919, in Grieshiem, Germany, to Hiemann and Mary Zinnkann. She graduated from high school in Grieshiem.
She served in the German Army from 1937 to 1941, achieving the rank of sergeant.
She married
Floyd C. Brown on Oct. 24, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Brown was employed in restaurants for 30 years. She retired in 1984.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, knitting and bingo. She was an active member of West Side Baptist Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include one son, Lester A. Brown of Bremerton; two stepdaughters, Gloria and Patsy; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Peter F. Brown of Port Orchard; a granddaughter, Melanie, 4, in 1983; two sisters, Mary and Gretchen; and three brothers, George, Hiemann and Johann, all victims of World War II.
