Phyllis Brown
Phyllis Anne Brown, 74, of Bremerton died May 23, 2002, of emphysema at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Bagley, Iowa, to Walter L. and Ada M. (Krueger) Neal. She graduated from Medford High School in Medford, Ore., in 1946.
She married
Leslie W. Brown on Feb. 8, 1947, in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Brown had worked as an operating room technician for 25 years, retiring in 1989.
She enjoyed reading and home decorating.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Judie Gembala and her husband, James, of Newport, Wash., Janet Butler of Bainbridge Island, and Jackie Hunter of Olympia; three sisters, Venetia Lavato of Upper Marlboro, Md., Arles Updegraff of Phoenix and Judie Scheffel and her husband, James, of Jacksonville, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Ericka Simmons and her husband, Andy, and Zack Stockton, all of Seattle, Zoe Carson and her husband, Craig, of Montgomery County, Md., Justin and Noel Larson and Maxwell Hunter, all of Olympia, Ashley Butler of Bainbridge Island, and Lily Gembala of Newport; and one great-grandchild, Emily Larson of Olympia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Murray L. Neal.

Ginger Forsyth
Grace Loween "Ginger" Forsyth, 86, of Poulsbo died May 29, 2002, at Liberty Shores Assisted Living Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in St. Joseph, Mich., to George and Mary Mitchell. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1934 and later from Stamford University in Stamford, Texas.
She married
Jack Forsyth. He died in 1988.
Mrs. Forsyth worked as a chiropractor in New Boston, Texas, for 20 years. She retired in 1988.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Baptist church. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Jack Forsyth and his wife, Debbie, of Poulsbo; a sister, Elsie Dunn of New York City; and two grandchildren, Madeline and Trapper Forsyth, both of Poulsbo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A service will be held at a later date in New Boston with interment in the Garden of Eden cemetery there.
Rocky Boyer
Former Bremerton resident Roscoe "Rocky" Boyer, 94, of Renton died May 25, 2002, in Puyallup.
He was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Seattle. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School.
Mr. Boyer had worked as a tool and die maker for 30 years at the Naval Torpedo Station at Keyport. He maintained homes in both Bremerton and South King County.
He was a member of Renton Eagles 1722 and the Renton Elks.
His wife, Grace, and his stepdaughter, Lorraine King, preceded him in death. He is survived by a stepdaughter, L. June Johnson of Renton; two brothers, William and Ken Boyer, both of
Port Orchard; three sisters, Vi Grace of Port Orchard, Mackie Henderson of Washington and Marvie Lund of Bremerton; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverton Crest cemetery in Tukwila. Arrangements are under the direction of American Memorial Funeral Directors Inc. in Renton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Renton Eagles 21 Club.
J.B. Wilkes
Jess "J.B." Wilkes, 87, of Silverdale died May 25, 2002, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Stantonville, Tenn., to Robert and Thankful Wilkes. He attended high school in the Stantonville area, graduating in 1933.
He married
Elaine E. Peacock on May 13, 1944, in San Francisco.
Mr. Wilkes served in the Navy, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. He retired after 20 years.
He then worked with Washington State Ferries for 15 years on the Kingston ferry run, retiring in 1975.
Mr. Wilkes' 15-acre farm in Kingston was his primary interest. He and his wife also enjoyed travel.
He is survived by his wife.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Donivan Lacey
Former Long Lake resident Donivan D. Lacey, 80, of Beatrice, Neb., died May 13, 2002, at Beatrice Manor.
He was born May 29, 1921, in Oak, Neb. He graduated from Nelson High School there in 1939.
Mr. Lacey served in the Navy from 1939 to 1946. He was later employed by the Nebraska State Patrol from 1946 until 1950.
He then worked as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1950 until his retirement in 1979. He had lived in Beatrice for the past 20 years.
Survivors include his wife Betty; three daughters, Donna Rae Wenger and her husband, Chris, of Federal Way, Leslie Jo Sherman and her husband, Chuck, of Bremerton and Becky Jean Elsmore and her husband, David, of Port Orchard; a sister, Phyllis Ruhmann of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Delbert.
Funeral services were held May 16 in Beatrice.
James Morrison
James D. Morrison, 87, of Port Ludlow died May 26, 2002, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to William and Jamesina (Dean) Morrison. He attended West Seattle High School.
He married
Anna Bussman on Jan. 8, 1967, in Port Ludlow.
Mr. Morrison was retired and had been self-employed most of his life as an automobile machinist, working in Seattle, Port Ludlow and on Bainbridge Island. He had owned Morrison Motor Service of Beacon Hill and Morrison's Richfield Service of Bainbridge Island.
He was a member of the Machinists Union, the
Port Ludlow Elks and the Queen City Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dean J. Morrison of University Place; a daughter, Darla J. Brown of Edmonds; a brother, Jack Morrison of Seattle; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 11 at
The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Esther Carson
Esther Maude Carson, 85, of Bremerton died May 27, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1916, in Missoula, Mont., to Walter and Lillian (Johnson) Crumb. She graduated from Highline High School in Burien in 1934.
She married
H.W. "Bill" Carson. He died in 1982.
Mrs. Carson had been a homemaker throughout her adult life. She also enjoyed writing poetry and making cookies.
Survivors include two sons, David Carson of Bremerton and Dan Carson of Gig Harbor; a daughter, Diana McKinley of Spain; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.
Marylue Towell
Marylue Towell, 70, of Bremerton died May 25, 2002, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 23, 1932, in Los Angeles to Ernest and Pearl (Lankton) Towell. She graduated from high school in El Monte, Calif., and from a community college in California.
She had worked for the state of California as manager of the disability insurance office. She retired in the early 1990s.
Survivors include a sister, Delora E. Tjulander and her husband, Ed, of Bremerton; a niece, Nina Cumbal and her husband, Juan, of Shoreline; and a nephew, Kirk Tjulander of Lynnwood.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Lillian Moore
Lillian Marie Moore, 81, of Port Orchard died May 20, 2002, after a long battle with cancer at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Portland, Ore., to Henry and Marie (Selle) Rutz. She attended school in Portland.
She married
Kenneth C. "Bud" Moore on Oct. 22, 1938, in Portland. He died in 2000.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was affiliated with the Lutheran faith.
She was an avid sports fan. She also enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth H. Moore and his wife, Nancy, of Walla Walla, and Paul K. Moore and his wife, Kathy, of Federal Way; two daughters, Sharon L. Timme of Kent and Linda P. Eisenauer of Lynnwood; three sisters, Caroline Brannon of West Linn, Ore., Virginia Toten of Gladstone, Ore., and Melba Rutz of Spokane; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Carol A. Filce and Michele D. Lamey; by two brothers, Jerome and Walter Rutz; and by a sister, Lorraine Edin.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Gladys Fife
Gladys Isabelle Fife, 89, of Silverdale died May 22, 2002, of a heart attack at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 28, 1913, in Los Angeles to Rocious and Amy (Gahan) Gilbert. As a child, she moved to New England where she was educated, married
and raised her family.
She married
Rodney Fife on Feb. 12, 1937, in Berwick, Maine. The Fifes celebrated their 65th anniversary this year.
Mrs. Fife had worked as a housekeeper for professors at the University of New Hampshire. She had also worked as a nursing assistant. She retired in 1974.
She was a seamstress. She loved animals and enjoyed flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Janet Sargent and her husband Wayne of Sales Creek, Tenn., and Lee Bunker and her husband Ivan of Port Orchard; a sister, Lillian Kelloway of Newburyport, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and Edward Kimball, and by two brothers, Lloyd Gilbert and James Lindley.
Services are private. A celebration of her life will be held this summer in New Hampshire.
John Smith
John Cunningham Smith, 73, of Poulsbo died May 24, 2002, in Poulsbo.
He was born May 3, 1929, in East Hampton, N.Y., to Russell and Mary (Cunningham) Smith. He graduated from East Hampton High School in 1947.
He received a bachelor of science degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana; a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Purdue University in Indiana; a master's degree in business and math from Northwestern University in Chicago; and a doctorate in math from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
He married
Joyce Downs on April 15, 1966.
Mr. Smith worked for McDonnell Douglas Aeronautics. He had been closely involved with the international and U.S. space programs since their inception, including the moon landing mission.
He was a member of the Lions Club of North Kitsap. and served as a mentor with North Kitsap Success. He was a Roman Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John R. Smith of West Lafayette, Ind.; two daughters, Colleen S. Rosen-crantz of Reno, Nev., and Erin M. Smith of University Place; two brothers, Russell Smith of Hampton Bays, N.Y., and Thomas Smith of Lomita, Calif.; two sisters, Eileen M. Randolph of Hampton Bays and Jean Rickenback of East Hampton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Hastings.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday also at St. Olaf's. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory.
