Scott Slater
Scott Eugene Slater, 44, of Bremerton died May 18, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 31, 1958, in Burien to Albert and M. Texander Slater. He graduated from Mount Rainier High School in Burien in 1977.
Mr. Slater served in the Navy from 1977 to 1981 as a hull technician third class. He was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
At the time of his death, he worked as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He had worked at PSNS since 1984.
Mr. Slater was a hot rod enthusiast. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Albert E. and Barbara (Collins) Slater of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Miki T. Grant and her husband, Philip, of Marysville; and his companion, Kimberly E. Sylvester of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Carlson in 1973; a sister, Alana Slater, in 1955; and his mother in 1990.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. June 2 at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WTI Foundation, (Automotive and Diesel Technology), P.O. Box 1410, Laramie, WY 82072 for a scholarship in Scott's name.

Mary Katherine Robinson
Former Bainbridge Island resident Mary Katherine Robinson, 84, of Bellingham died April 25, 2002, in Bellingham.
She was born March 18, 1918, in Republic, Wash., to Claude McCrory and Effie Lee (Wilson) Trevitt. She graduated from Republic High School in 1935 as salutatorian; from Whitworth College in 1939; and received her fifth year at the University of Washington.
She married Dougald Robinson on April 5, 1942.
Mrs. Robinson taught high school English, French and music in Peshastin and in Elma.
From 1951 to 1999, she lived on Bainbridge Island, where she taught piano lessons in her home. She moved to Bellingham in 1999 and was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church there.
Wherever she lived, Mary was active in the community and her church, and always had a strong emphasis on working with youth and young adults.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Claude Robinson and his wife, Janet, of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Lenore Chambers and her husband, Doug, of Pullman and Mary Robinson-Mohr and her husband, Randy, of Bellingham; six grandchildren, Amy, Peter, and Molly Robinson, Robyn and Craig Chambers and Susannah Mohr; a sister, Alice Lenore Peterson of Milton, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Whitworth College in Spokane or to the First Presbyterian Church in Republic.
A memorial service was held April 29 at St. James Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held May 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Republic. Burial was at the Republic cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Jones Moles Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellingham.

Blanche Mushrow
Blanche Vera Mushrow, 91, of Bremerton died May 10, 2002, at Messenger House on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Lowell, Mass., to Albert Frank and Emma (Caccio) Smith. She completed two years of business college.
She married Walter Mushrow.
Mrs. Mushrow had worked as an office manager for several years.
She was affiliated with the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include her husband, who also lives at Messenger House; and a son, Kenneth Mushrow of Port Orchard.
Services are in Maine with burial at Pine Grove cemetery in Falmouth, Maine.

Timothy Lindberg
Timothy Drew Lindberg, 44, of Bainbridge Island died May 7, 2002, in Poulsbo.
He was born April 5, 1958, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Howard and Patricia (Kerr) Lindberg. He graduated from Mendham High School in Mendham, N.J., in 1976 and from the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine, in 1980.
Mr. Lindberg had worked as a captain with Washington State Ferries for 13 years. He also was a beekeeper.
He married Lane Phillips on Feb. 22, 1997.
Survivors include his wife; his parents, now of Wayne, Maine; a son, Theodore Lindberg of Far Hills, N.J.; three brothers, Mark P. Lindberg of Phillipsburg, N.J., Eric S. Lindberg and his wife, Stacy, of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Jonathan Lindberg and his wife, Christie, of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Kerrie G. Lindberg and her husband, Gayle Anders, of Waldorf, Md.; five nephews; and a niece.
A memorial service was May 18 on Bainbridge Island.

Faye Stipek
Faye Wickstrom Stipek, 67, of Hansville died May 22, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Seattle to Carl Axel and Phyllis (Kaye) Wickstrom. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952 and from the
University of Washington in 1968, receiving a bachelor's degree in English and Swedish and a K-12 teaching certification.
She married Robert B. Stipek on Dec. 29, 1956, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Seattle.
Mrs. Stipek taught in the Highline, Edmonds and Bainbridge school districts, retiring in 1995. She spoke Swedish fluently and also taught Swedish undergraduate courses at the University of Washington.
She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. She was also very active in church work.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Robert C. Stipek and Grant G. Stipek, both of Bremerton, and Brian P. Stipek of Seattle; a daughter, Gwendolyn J. Styke and her husband, Brian, of
Freeland, Wash.; two brothers, Phillip Wickstrom and his wife, Betsy, of Tucson, Ariz., and Tren Wickstrom and his wife, Nancy, of Seattle; and two grandchildren, Brandon Wolfe Styke and Sarah Caitlin Styke.
At her request, private family services were held. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bainbridge Island Library, 1270 Madison Ave., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, Attention: Don Harrington.

Glenn McNeal
Former Bremerton resident Glenn Harvey McNeal, 81, of Tonasket died May 14, 2002.
He was born July 5, 1920, in Bremerton to Earl Clinton and Carrie S. (Parker) McNeal. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1937 and was captain of the Bremerton High football team that competed in Hawaii in 1936.
He married Beryl N. Vockrodt on Oct. 17, 1942, in Bremerton.
Mr. McNeal joined the Army in 1943, attached to Company D, 5th Ranger Battalion, as a Browning automatic rifle man. He served until 1945 in northern France, the Rhineland and in Central Europe.
Upon his return to the United States, he and his father owned and operated Midway Dairy in Bremerton, selling the business in 1959. Afterward, Mr. McNeal traveled to the Yukon and Alaska many times.
In 1973, he and his family moved to Tonasket, where he and his wife worked for Watson Ranches (apple orchards) until their retirement in 1983.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Glenn "Terry" McNeal of Bremerton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda M. and John P. Darwin of Harahan, La.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no services.

Kenneth Gard
Kenneth J. Gard, 76, of Bremerton died May 18, 2002, in Bremerton, where he has lived for the past 40 years.
He was born March 25, 1926, in Boise, Idaho, to Ned R. and Ruth C. (Campbell) Gard.
Mr. Gard served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He was a technician fifth class with the 389th Military Police Battalion in Central Europe.
He later worked as a machinist with the federal government.
His sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie M. and
Orson L. Kelly of Austin, Texas, survive him. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur E. Gard and Donald C. Gard.
No funeral services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Grace Reiswig
Grace Isabel Reiswig, 87, of Silverdale died May 18, 2002, of a massive heart attack and pneumonia at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 17, 1914, in Minneapolis to Carl and Signa (Bergstrom) Mickelson.
She married Edward G. Reiswig on June 17, 1934, in Minneapolis. He died in 1985. They had lived on Erland Point Road in Bremerton for 40 years.
Mrs. Reiswig had owned and operated a house cleaning business. She retired in 1975.
She was devoted to her family. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist churches in Bremerton and Poulsbo, participating in church-sponsored community service activities for many years.
She had also been an active member of TOPS. She enjoyed baking and embroidery.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Reiswig and his wife, Janet, of San Clemente, Calif.; two daughters,
Janice Ellison and her husband, Bill, of Sumner and Kathleen Aus and her husband, Henry, of Silverdale; a sister, Lois Schoengart of Bremerton; five grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Poulsbo Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Poulsbo Seventh-day Adventist School Building Program, 1700 Lincoln Road NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

Jo-Anne Garland Larsen Ekroth
Former Bremerton resident Jo-Anne Garland Larsen Ekroth, 74, of Seattle died May 18, 2002, in Seattle.
She was born March 6, 1928, in Bremerton. Her parents were Marian Frances Garland and Madge (Rush) Garland. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1945 and from the University of Washington in 1949.
She married Nels Ekroth on Jan. 10, 1992, in Seattle.
Mrs. Ekroth had worked as director of the volunteer bureau for United Way of King County for 18 years. She later served as a legislative aide with state Sen. Dick Nelson for several years.
She had been a member of West Seattle Democratic Women and had been an advocate for human and animal rights throughout her life. She enjoyed the arts, knitting and crochet.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Matthew Larsen of Seattle; a daughter, Kim Larsen of Seattle; a brother, William R. Garland of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Trevor and Devlyn Larsen, both of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at University Unitarian Church, 6556 35th St. NE in Seattle. Arrangements are under the direction of Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Maia Skeisvold
Maia Skeisvold, 68, of Hansville died April 18, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from injuries suffered in an automobile accident that day in Hansville.
She was born May 5, 1933, in Tartu, Estonia. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle.
She married Austin Skeisvold on Feb. 19, 1962, in Sun Valley, Idaho. He died May 7, 2002, from injuries suffered in the same accident that claimed her life.
Survivors include two daughters, Irene Austvold and her husband, John, of Lynnwood and Karen Skeisvold and her fiance, Jeff Francisco, of Seattle; two brothers, Leo Hannibal of Kirkland and Ilmar Kuljus of Spokane; and two grandchildren, Sophia Angela Austvold, 3, and Maia Kathrine Austvold, born May 8.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW in Lynnwood.
Memorial donations may be made to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue Community Partnership Fund, P.O. Box 41, Kingston, WA 98346 or to Harborview Medical Center.
