Dr. Tearle Beal
Dr. Tearle M. Beal, 75, of Hansville died May 20, 2002, of a heart attack at his home.
He was born May 4, 1927, in Ephraim, Utah, to Milton and Lora (Nielsen) Beal. He graduated from Ephraim High School; from Snow College in Salt Lake City in 1948; from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1950; and from the University of Washington Dental School in 1954.
Dr. Beal served in the Navy from 1945 to 1946 as a hospital corpsman. He later practiced dentistry for 25 years, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include his companion, Carol Lodmell of Mercer Island; a son, John Beal; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by an adopted son, Rahn Porter.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Lloyd Herd II
Lloyd Raymond Herd II, 80, of Bremerton died May 21, 2002, of leukemia at Harrison Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1922, in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco University and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Stanford University in California.
He married
Elizabeth Iva Gridley. She died in 1989.
Mr. Herd worked as an engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 20 years, moving to Bremerton in the early 1970s. He later worked as head custodian at Bainbridge High School for more than 10 years.
He had served as a board member of an Upward Bound camp in Oregon. He was a member of the William H. Upton Masonic Lodge 206 in Bremerton and Bremerton Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Herd enjoyed helping people. Other interests included Husky girls softball, stamp collecting, baseball cards and computer games.
He is survived by a son, Lloyd Raymond Herd III of Bremerton; a daughter, Zuma Martin of Tacoma; and two grandchildren, Lloyd Raymond Herd IV and Pete Herd, both of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zackary Taylor Martin.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bremerton Church of the Nazarene, 924 Sheridan Road in East Bremerton. A reception dinner will follow at the church.

Rose Noehl
Rosetta L. "Rose" Noehl, 71, of Manchester died May 20, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1930, in Milaca, Minn., to Ernest G. and Olive V. (Peterson) Anderson. She attended North Branch High School in North Branch, Minn., and graduated from Pechastin High School in 1948.
She married
James R. Noehl on May 10, 1950, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Noehl had worked as a nurse's aide at Swedish Hospital in Seattle and as a certified nursing assistant at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center in Port Orchard. She was retired.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, collecting angels, reading and crossword puzzles. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Fox of Bremerton; three brothers, Floyd Anderson of Tucson, Ariz., Dale Anderson of Seattle and Dewey Anderson of Bothell; a sister, June Juul of Bothell; four grandchildren, Anthony and Allen Heitman, both of Tacoma, and Julianna Paulson and Richard Heitman, both of Port Orchard. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Noehl, in 1967.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. June 1 at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Abby View cemetery in Brier.
Honey Olson
Honey Lucille Olson, 77, of Bremerton died May 16, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 26, 1924, in Tacoma to Edward and Esther (Blair) Bence. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1942.
She married
Fred J. Olson in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Olson had worked as a payroll clerk at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 10 years, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton where she was active in the Young Ladies Institute.
Mrs. Olson was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. She had been instrumental in organizing and operating the church's gift shop.
She was fond of golden retrievers and participated in the Retriever Club.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Tim A. Olson of Bremerton; three daughters, Linda Sue Hawkins of Hayward, Calif., Sandy Stewart of Silverdale and De De Johnson of Olalla; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael, and by four brothers, Seth, Claude, Robert and Gerald Bence.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1516 Fifth St. A reception follows at the church.

Austin Skeisvold
Austin Skeisvold, 75, of Hansville died May 7, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from injuries suffered in an automobile accident April 18 in Hansville.
He was born May 15, 1926, in Karmoy, Norway. He graduated from high school in Norway.
He and his wife, Maia, were married
Feb. 19, 1962, in Sun Valley, Idaho. She died from injuries suffered in the same accident that claimed Mr. Skeisvold's life.
Survivors include two daughters, Irene Austvold and her husband, John, of Lynnwood and Karen Skeisvold and her fiance, Jeff Francisco, of Seattle; two brothers, Finn Skeisvoll of Moorpark, Calif., and Magne Skeisvoll of Karmoy; and two grandchildren, Sophia Angela Austvold, 3, and Maia Kathrine Austvold, born May 8.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW in Lynnwood.

Eugenio D. Dela Cruz Jr.
Eugenio D. Dela Cruz Jr., 46, of Silverdale died May 21, 2002, of cancer at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 5, 1956, in the Philippines to Eugenio Dela Cruz Sr. and Teodora Dela Cruz. He graduated from Holy Angel University in Angeles City in the Philippines in 1972 and received a degree in marine engineering from the Philippine Maritime Institute in Manila in 1978.
He married
Estrellita Cartas on Nov. 20, 1981, in San Diego.
Mr. Dela Cruz served in the Navy from 1979 until his retirement in 1999. A machinist's mate, he achieved the rank of petty officer first class and received several awards, which included the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and the Golden Anchor Award.
He was a member of the Dau Association of Southern California, the United Ilocanos of Puget Sound and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jonathan Dela Cruz of Silverdale; two daughters, Jennilynn and Judith Dela Cruz, both of Silverdale; four brothers, Eduardo and Elmer Dela Cruz, both of San Diego, Emmanuel Dela Cruz of Silverdale and Elpidio Dela Cruz of Pampanga, Philipines; and two sisters, Miriam Dela Cruz-Tongol and Dolora Dela Cruz-Morgan, both of San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Rosaries will be held at 8 nightly at his home through Wednesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Henry Rodstol
Henry Edward Rodstol, 86, of Port Orchard died May 20, 2002, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olympia.
He was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Harper to Ole and Pernille (Sather) Rodstol. He graduated from Vashon High School in 1934.
He married
Freda Leighton on Oct. 14, 1944, in Norwich, England. She died in 1995.
Mr. Rodstol served in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II. He met his wife while stationed in England.
He later worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Rodstol enjoyed travel and gardening. He was a member of Harper Evangelical Free Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, James Rodstol of Connell, Wash.; two daughters, Perki Sweet and her husband, Peter, of Olympia and Charlotte Mullen and her husband, David, of New Castle; three brothers, Laurence Rodstol of Seattle, Leonard Rodstol of Harper and Harry Rodstol of Wenatchee; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Olaf and Oswald Rodstol, and by a sister, Margaret Westlund.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, followed by a 1:30 p.m. funeral service at Harper Evangelical Free Church. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Marvin Olmstead
Marvin Olmstead, 78, of Silverdale died May 17, 2002, in Seattle.
He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Webster City, Iowa, to Leo and Martha Olmstead.
Mr. Olmstead served in the Navy from 1941 to 1945.
He married
Marilyn Jackson on April 4, 1947. The couple recently celebrated their 55th anniversary.
Mr. Olmstead had worked as a machinist for Honeywell in Minneapolis. The Olmsteads moved to Bremerton in 1964, and Mr. Olmstead began a 20-year career at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, where he was a machinist and a torpedo mechanic.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a longtime member of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo.
A devoted father, Mr. Olmstead had served as a scoutmaster when his sons were involved in scouting. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick and Randy; a daughter, Kym; and a grandson, Brandon Marvin Olmstead. He was preceded in death by a son, Robin Lee Olmstead, in 1967.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. June 6 at Christ Memorial Church, Eighth and Hostmark in Poulsbo. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jinx Turner
Jeanine F. "Jinx" Turner, 64, of Port Orchard died May 17, 2002, after a long battle with cancer at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 8, 1937, in Walla Walla to Leon Fairfield Turner and Fern (Dilts) Turner. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1955; from Eastern Washington University in Cheney in 1959; and from Gonzaga University in Spokane in 1970 with a master's degree in social work.
She managed the USO Club in Barstow, Calif., for three years during the Vietnam era. She went on to work with the Washington State Employment Service for 30 years, retiring from a 15-year management position in Spokane in 1999 and moving to Port Orchard.
She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She was affiliated with the Episcopalian faith.
Survivors include her mother, Fern Turner of Walla Walla; her brother and sister-in-law, Tom F. and Anne Turner of Vienna, Va.; two nephews, David and Lee Turner, both of Vienna, Va.; and four grandnephews and grandnieces, Susannah, Ashley, Michael and Allison Turner, all of Vienna, Va.
At her request, no services will be held. A wake will be observed from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Long Lake Recreation Center, 5448 Long Lake Road SE in Port Orchard.

Esther Ryan
Esther Lovise Ryan, 75, of Poulsbo died May 19, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Poulsbo to Trygve and Clara (Hegdal) Peterson. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1943.
She married
Donald E. Ryan on March 14, 1946. At the time of Mr. Ryan's death in 1996, they had been married
for 50 years.
Mrs. Ryan had worked as an administrative assistant with the federal government. She retired in 1980.
She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include three daughters, Darla J. Heimdahl and her husband, Roger, of Kirkland, Denise L. Bailey and her husband, Norman, of Poulsbo and Donna K. Hintze and her husband, Craig, of Bellevue; a sister, Thelma Eggleston and her husband, Jim, of Lynnwood; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Peterson.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church cemetery in Poulsbo, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service at First Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
